Here is Tucker’s story, told by his very experienced and loving foster dad:

Tucker is an eight-and-a-half-year-old boy who is quite the charmer! His greatest quality is that he is so awesome with all the people, including older children, that he meets. He will jump into and cuddle up on any available lap! Tucker is a smaller guy, around 45 pounds, who will be happy to sleep with you in bed. He is one of the shortest males I have had, but as you can see from his photos, he is a very handsome guy.

I have found that Tucker is not the greatest with other dogs, mainly because of his possessiveness. He is jealous and has to have anything the other dog has: toys, food, water, his owner’s attention, etc. However, this problem occurs only with other dogs. With people, he is not a problem at all! People can take away food and treats with no issue. With toys, he’ll play keep away, but that’s all it is — play. Tucker was the hit of the party at Christmas, as well as at another gathering at my house. His attitude toward people is simple: “Just give me all your love!”

Now that our boy has gotten used to the household pack, I’m happy to report that he isn’t irritating them nearly as much as he used to. So living with another dog isn’t out of the question, as long as he is with an experienced dog owner, and depending upon the reactions of the other dog(s). Tucker understands his place in my pack now, but please let us know your situation, the temperaments of your resident dogs, and your definition of what constitutes a peaceful household.

Tucker came to us with a sneezing issue that we are now getting under control. He has done pretty well for the last couple of months with just a generic over-the-counter allergy medicine. It wasn’t a knockout solution, but makes his condition pretty tolerable. Tucker has been neutered and brought up to date on all his other vaccinations and vetting, including a dental cleaning. He had an ear issue that was taken care of. However, he will need continued monitoring because his inner ears are very furry. His coat is super soft, too, and is of the wavy type that will grow forever but will not shed very much at all.

Very active and playful, Tucker will need regular exercise and play, and he will let you know about these needs. Housetraining Tucker has been very successful. He knows the commands Sit, Leave It, and more. This guy is generally obedient, and he’s a smart cookie. While with me, he has learned several new words: “outside,” “treats,” and “where is[toy, ball, etc].” He is a pretty trainable guy. On a leash, he is not really experienced, but he’s not bad. He may circle a bit, but that’s mostly from excitement. A good way to describe this guy would be to say that he is 8, going on 2! Tucker does seem to be something of a stranger to walks, but he is controllable. And I’m glad to report that he is doing better on car rides. He had some pretty significant stress unless he was in the front seat, close to his person, and he may need a strong right arm to keep him off your lap, because that is his safest place.

The reason Tucker is available is that his former owners are older seniors who have had serious health issues that made it hard for them to continue to care for him and his brother. If you are interested in this loving, handsome boy and want to know more about him, please fill out an online Adoption Application and then contact his case manager by filling out the form below or calling her at 708-799-7039. Tucker would love to meet you!
