With his kind eyes and soft, gentle demeanor, Sam has shown us that he’s the ultimate gentleman: polite, curious, and devoted. He’s never met a person or a dog he didn’t want to say hello to, greeting everyone with quiet and gentle enthusiasm. He’s been wonderful around children, including those who are blind and autistic, proving just how patient, calm, and respectful he truly is.

Sam is partially deaf with mild cataracts, and his backside is a bit weak (he sometimes needs a gentle boost to get up on the couch), but don’t let that fool you—he’s gaining strength every day and has a renewed love for life and all its wonders!

Despite his gentle, calm vibe – quiet as a mouse, content with afternoon naps and cozy nights on a dog bed next to his people’s bed – Sam has an enduring spark of curiosity that lights up on every walk. This sweet boy absolutely loves getting outside: thirty-to-sixty-minute strolls three times a day, exploring different terrain like snow, ice, grass, small hills, woods, and trails. Sam follows along happily off-leash, sniffing the air, checking out new scents, and taking in his world with such wonder. He navigates beautifully with his person leading the way; if he gets a little turned around, a soft touch or a wave keeps him confidently on track. He speeds up with joy when he spots people or dogs to greet, proving that his heart is still full of wonder and love for life’s little discoveries.

Sam adores going to doggy daycare, loves to greet pups as they arrive, and happily walks with puppies and other dogs throughout the day. He is fully housetrained (he’ll walk right to the door or wait for his potty breaks). He eagerly looks forward to meals and treat time. He’s a dream in the car – hopping in with a little help and either watching the world go by or napping in his doggy bed.
