Meet Sadie, a sweet 2-year-old beauty needing a Forever Home. Sadie’s family surrendered her to the local shelter because she wasn’t getting along with her “doggie” mom. Thankfully ESRA volunteers were there to help!
Sadie is living her best life now in a foster home with her two foster sisters, a 5-year-old Brittany Spaniel and a 3½-year-old Brittany-English Setter rescue. Sadie plays with the younger dog and tends to leave the other dog alone. She loves to go outside and chase her foster sisters. She also loves water, but she’s not a swimmer (not yet). The shelter told us that Sadie got along fine with the male dog in her home, but she got into fights with her “doggie” mom. Sadie has not shown any aggression with her foster sisters or with anyone else.
Sadie has had all her shots, is spayed, microchipped and is currently on preventative heartworm medicine. She is very food motivated and loves a treat as a reward! She walks well on a leash and knows the command “Sit.” She also loves to ride in the car! Sadie recently practiced walking on a leash and meeting strangers in Lowe’s. The nice welcome lady pet her and gave her a yummy treat. All the employees loved her and wanted her to come back to visit.
Sadie does not appreciate being locked in a kennel, so we are assuming she was never kennel trained (or that it was possibly used as a punishment). However, she does great being left with her foster sisters in the house while you are out. Her foster home leaves cartoons on, and she takes a nap or wanders around until you come back. She is house trained and hasn’t had any accidents.
Sadie will sleep on a dog bed, but she would rather sleep with you on your bed. She is a typical Springer—she loves attention and loves to be next to or on top of you. She is cautious when meeting someone for the first time and may initially bark until she warms up.
Sadie craves love and attention. She doesn’t play with toys or balls, but she loves bones. (The only “resource guarding” we have seen is when she wanted to protect her bone; so those are saved for when her foster sisters are away or in their kennels.) She is not afraid of water and loves running through a pool and getting a bath.
We do not know how Sadie does with cats, but she’s reported to be friendly with children. We feel that older children or teenagers would be the best match for her. Her size might be overwhelming to small children. While she loves other dogs and used to go to the dog park with her previous owner, she does tend to enjoy being the dominant female. She isn’t a jumper, but she is still very puppyish, so she needs lots of exercise and play time. At night, Sadie tends to get the zoomies and will wrestle with her foster sisters.
