How do you spell “Spunky Spaniel”? … ROYCE!
(lovingly known as Roycie)

Hi everyone! My name is Roycie, and I am an 8-year young, high energy, Velcro style love bug. If you’re looking for a Springer who wants to be your shadow, your adventure buddy, and your snuggle partner, I’m your guy. Even though I’m technically “middle aged,” don’t let that number fool you — I’ve got the Springer zest, the zoomies, and the enthusiasm of a much younger pup. My foster mom says I’m 90 percent wonderful, and that last 10 percent is just my big feelings about squirrels and other dogs. I get excited, my voice gets loud, and sometimes I forget my manners – especially in the car – lots of excitement! But I’m eager to learn, eager to please, and with the right human and some training, I’ll be 100 percent perfection.

I came to ESRA through no fault of my own. My previous family loved me deeply and cared for me exceptionally well — high quality food, training, vet care, the whole package. When life changed and they needed help, ESRA stepped in. Because of that great care, I’m in fantastic shape! I am a 45 pound, tall, athletic Springer, I am strong, healthy, and mentally sharp. I know commands and love learning. Oh — and did I mention? I LOVE WATER. Beach waves, lake splashes, backyard pools:  if it’s wet, I’m in. Like many Springers, I thrive when both my body and brain get exercise. I’d be amazing at: scent work, puzzle games, training sessions, outdoor adventures, beach days.

Waiting to hear from you!

Royce (aka Roycie)

From Royce’s Foster Mom:
Royce is a good boy in the house. He’s crate trained, calm when left alone, house trained and sleeps happily in his own space. He loves people, loves affection, and loves being part of the family. He’s playful, curious, and has a wonderful spirit.

He also excels at: yard patrol, squirrel surveillance, lizard alerts, bird announcements, and splash time enthusiasm (seriously — bring a towel). He is loving, loyal, goofy, and full of heart Springer, he just needs a human who can guide, support, and help him shine.

An experienced adopter who understands Springers with big energy and big hearts would be ideal for him. Royce was attacked a couple of times by other dogs when he was younger, so now he gets nervous and reactive on leash. He will bark loudly when he’s unsure — especially at dogs or squirrels. But with structure, confidence, and training, he has already shown improvement in foster care. He might be able to live with another dog, but it would need to be a very specific match: A mellow, confident dog who won’t be intimidated by his excited barking and who can help him feel safe. He has already made dog friends while in foster care, if he is not restricted to his leash.

Royce will need to be placed in a home without children under 12, since fast, unpredictable energy makes him uncomfortable. He has lived with cats before — he’s not aggressive, he just can’t figure out why they won’t play with him!

We are currently looking for applicants who may consider being a foster to adopt applicant for Royce or foster him. He is truly a wonderful Springer who just needs some solid guidance from a good human so he can be the best dog that he can be. We highly encourage anyone who adopts Royce to work with a trainer to continue all of the good work that his foster home has done with him.

Might you be that person or family? We are accepting applications now for review and please note that we will only place him in a home that is best suited to his needs.

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog’s case manager.

Please submit an Online Adoption Application if you are interested in Royce. It is always the first step in our adoption process.
