- Needs another active dog playmate of similar size
This stunning boy came out of a shelter in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, a place where so many stray dogs land. Pete is a smaller dog, full of energy. We believe him to be a Border Collie / Spaniel mix. His foster mom says his beauty is breathtaking, and he turns some heads. Everyone loves him!
Pete is house trained and hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home (he has good bladder control!) He’s also crate trained and willingly jumps into his crate for his dinner. Pete walks very well on leash and is friendly when he meets adults, children and other dogs. He needs some practice with recall, but he knows Sit, Stay and Come. He is a very intelligent and trainable dog, but not food motivated. Taking an obedience class with Pete would be a great way to bond with him.
Pete needs exercise and mental stimulation. We’re sure he would enjoy an activity with his owner like agility, Frisbee or maybe dock diving. He is an amazing athlete and can jump and twist in the air. This playful boy loves fetch and usually brings the ball back to you. He loves his toys, but the stuffies don’t last long. With all his energy, perhaps he would make a good running buddy, or maybe you have a large yard or acreage?
Pete easily attaches to people and wants to please you. He is clingy enough to be a lap dog, but he’s secure enough to sleep on the floor in his own bed. He’s super friendly and loves to be petted. Pete has been friendly with all the dogs he has met with the exception of one dog in his foster home (an older male Springer with health issues). He is unknown with cats. Pete will bark when excited, like during play time or food time. This smart boy will let you know what he wants.
Pete has not been neutered, but he is current on vaccinations and microchipped. He did test positive for heartworms and will need treatment in his foster-to-adopt home at ESRA’s expense. Pete is very good at the vet and groomer. He doesn’t mind having his nails trimmed or being bathed and brushed.
This exuberant boy will reward you with his loyalty in abundance. His foster mom says if Pete had a favorite song, it would be “I want to hold your hand.” He loves to present his paw to be held! If he had a favorite t-shirt, it would say “love, pet, feed, sleep, re-Pete!”
