About Mills
- Needs an adult household (age 12+)
- Unsuitable with cats
- Needs someone home most of the time
- Needs to be an only dog
Handsome tri-colored Springer Mills is at that perfect age, beyond puppy destructiveness and hyperactivity but still always ready and willing to walk or play. After plenty of exercise, he turns into a champion cuddler. He’s not a dog who would be happy in his dog bed in the corner of the room – he wants to be right next to you on the couch all evening! He’s one step beyond Velcro dog. His adorable red eyebrows sometimes make him look concerned, but he is a happy boy.
Mills came into rescue because he felt displaced by his young family’s human baby and was stressed and anxious. He was always well cared for and loved, and it shows in his loving personality. It’s clear that he expects to be treated as “the baby” and the center of attention. For that reason, he needs a family with adults/teens and no other pets.
Mills loves his daily walks. He’d also enjoy a fenced yard, but he has done fine without one in foster care. He is strong and does pull on his leash, so his adopters need to be strong as well.
He needs some training and practice in greeting people appropriately. He means well but gets overly excited, jumps, and can be a bit mouthy. In foster care, we are working on sitting and waiting to be petted. Mills is also nervous on car rides.
Indoors after an outing, he’ll grab one of his stuffed animals and run through the house, thrashing it. He loves a good game of chase and tug; it is very growly play but all in good fun.
He is a diligent watchdog and will notify you of package deliveries or visitors. He is well housetrained and does fine home alone for a few hours, as long as you don’t leave tasty treats on the counter. There has been no need to crate him.
If you’re interested in adopting Mills, please submit an Online Adoption Application. It is always the first step in our adoption process.
