Meet our young senior, Matilda! She is the loveliest girl in the world!

Mattie was found in a rural area wandering in the dangerously hot Texas sun. Despite the finder’s best efforts, her owner was never found. We have to wonder if she was abandoned. Unfortunately, Mattie’s story will remain her own.

She was thin, filthy, matted and her toenails more than an inch long. The groomer then found a declaw so long it curled back around and was embedded into her paw and infected. We cannot imagine how painfully difficult walking must have been. We got her all cleaned up, her paw healed, ear infections cleared up and our little girl came to life! She now trots and prances and is looking forward to a new chapter.

Mattie is absolutely wonderful! She loves all humans she meets, both adults and children. She cherishes her people and prefers they not be out of sight. No surprise she’s a Velcro girl. Mattie is so gentle, so sweet and very affectionate. She loves her cuddle time on the couch with her foster family. When you go to pet her, she will wrap her paw around your hand. She’s a love!

Mattie adores other dogs, fares well with all, and even initiates play. We would, ideally, love to place her with a family with a somewhat playful or interactive dog in the home. She’s house trained, crate trained, rides great in the car, is an excellent patient at the vet and a great client at the groomer. Her leash skills are perfection. She would love a family who would enjoy leisurely walks, as well. She does enjoy the art of counter surfing, so her new family will need to continue to work with her on that. We want to place Mattie in a home where her people are around quite a bit of the time.

Surprisingly, Mattie’s in great health! Her blood work was excellent, she’s heartworm negative and had been spayed, it appears, at a young age. She had a much-needed dental and was microchipped for safe keeping.

Mattie is a perfect companion to anyone looking for a more settled girl. She’s so easy and just about as perfect as they get. We look forward to hearing from you if you can provide the home for her noted above. We are so excited to find her the best home where she will be absolutely adored!
