Are you looking for a truly amazing dog? Knox is one of the sweetest Springers you will ever meet!

Knox needs a very special adopter because he is blind; however, his lack of vision is not a disability for him. The ophthalmologist said Knox has detached retinas and has been blind since birth. He’s a very smart boy, eager to please and learns quickly. Like most blind dogs, Knox “maps” the house and yard in a very short time. He navigates around very well and at times we have questioned if he can see! We use cautionary words like “this way,” “careful” and “stop,” if he is close to running into something — especially when he gets excited.

Knox has had a sad start in life. He was an owner surrender because his mom wanted a better life for him. He was underweight when we got him, and he was kept outside or in a crate in the garage much of the time. Being a typical Velcro Springer, you can imagine that this sweet boy is starved for love and attention. He can’t get enough! Knox had not seen a vet since he was 15 weeks old. When he was surrendered, he needed to be neutered and was found to have a cyst on his neck. Both surgeries were successful and he was a very good patient. He was eager to take his meds when hidden in cheese! Thanks to ESRA, Knox is in good health, current on his vaccinations, heartworm negative and ready for the next adventure in life.

Knox is completely house trained and goes to the door when he needs to go outside. He is truly amazing and adapts quickly to new environments. He walks well on a leash, but his foster family lives in a rural area where there are no sidewalks. Knox knows the “Sit” command and loves treats. He prefers soft toys but does have a bone that he chews on.

Knox would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time and he has another dog to show him the way. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with his Springer foster sister. He would probably do best with medium to larger dogs rather than small ones. We don’t know of any experience with cats.

This charming boy is incredibly sweet! He loves meeting new people, but he will jump up because he gets very excited. We are working on this in his foster home. He is a bigger boy and does not realize his size. He wants to be a lap dog! Knox would do great with older children rather than little ones. He has lots of energy and enjoys going for walks. He’s also an excellent traveler and did very well on his long car rides to Houston for his vet visits.

EVERYONE falls in love with this adorable boy! Can you provide the special love that Knox needs? Please send us your application today!

Please submit an Online Adoption Application if you are interested in Knox. It is always the first step in our adoption process.

Special note to all out-of-state applicants:   Please ask your State Coordinator to forward your approved Adoption Application to the contact listed.  Also note that all out-of-state adopters must come to Texas/Oklahoma to retrieve their dog.  Transports via ESRA to other states is not available and will not be offered.  Dogs will not be allowed to fly in the cargo area of a commercial aircraft.  Smaller dogs that meet the weight and size restrictions for in-cabin flight will be allowed to travel in the main cabin area under the front seat of their adopter in an approved carrier following FAA and airline regulations.  Cost of canine airline travel will be the responsibility of the adopting family.
