About Eli
- Needs securely fenced yard
- High exercise needs
Eli is an active guy who is ready to go, go and go some more! He is very enthusiastic and very strong, so he needs experienced dog owners able to hold tight to his leash and work on his manners. Out and about, he can be a bit reactive around unknown dogs. He’s eager to explore and his manners are improving.
With people, Eli is a lover. He enjoys making new friends, including the children he’s met while out and about. He is especially fond of a 12-year-old in his foster family’s neighborhood. Because of his strength, he does need an adult at the other end of his leash.
He is housetrained, crate trained and knows some basic commands. Eli devours his food but is surprisingly gentle when taking treats. In foster care, he has learned to get along with the resident dogs. He was recently neutered, which does seem to have helped with his reactivity around other dogs.
His foster family says Eli has a “bionic nose.” Because of his high prey drive, a secure, higher fence is needed. He has escaped his foster family’s fenced yard a couple of times but came back after exploring the woods. That nose may be the reason he came into rescue; he was found as a stray and taken to a shelter, possibly while on one of his great adventures. The woods is his happy place. He loves his walks and would make a wonderful hiking companion.
Eli has made great progress in foster care and is now ready to find his Forever Family. He has a lot of love to share and is looking forward to his next chapter. His foster family thinks he’d do well with younger retired folks or a family with teenagers. (His energy level might be too much for small children.) He’s ready to roll!
