Meet Dash, born on Valentine’s Day. This tall, long and skinny boy is 50 pounds of pure love. He has a very gentle and caring nature and for anyone lucky to have him, they will be his whole life and he just wants to be yours. He spent the last 18 months of his previous life on the bed beside his elderly, terminally ill owner and is now learning to enjoy a carefree life.
Dash loves playing gently with his smaller foster sister, letting her take the lead. He also enjoys being outside and runs from zero to full speed — definitely living up to his name! After a short burst of energy, he’s equally happy to patrol and roam around his yard and loves curling up in a ball and dozing too. He has been previously taught to leave the kitchen when meals are being prepped and takes himself outside through the dog door until invited back. But other times are fair game to him, as he is still a shameless counter surfer and also feels that some throw pillows are worth snuggling up with or used to greet you with. You will need to work with him on this and protect him from harm while he’s learning.
Dash is learning to like tennis balls and comes with his special toys, including his favorite nylon bone. He does need to work on his ‘voluntary drop’ skills but will release his prize without a tussle. He is fine with many of the other basics. He adores riding in the car, and he is happy just sitting in it even if you go nowhere! He does need to be safely secured when riding in the car, as he likes to enthusiastically but briefly defend it against any passing dog or the occasional suspicious looking human. He is a promising student and will continue to surprise and delight with some continuity, patience and love.
Dash loves nothing more than to be curled up beside you on the sofa or on the bed, but he will leave if asked. This sweetheart is an old soul in a young dog’s body.
He is untested with cats, but he does have a prey drive. Dash would do well in a home with other dogs or on his own, as long as he’s not left on his own too much. He seems to have no issues with older children, but he isn’t used to sharing his people with young ones.
