From Cooper’s foster family:
Meet our special guy, Cooper! This gentle, affectionate dog adapts comfortably to new environments. He responds well to commands such as Sit, Stay, and Speak. Cooper can be nervous initially, especially when he’s at the vet or in the car, but he overcomes those fears when he has a confident human by his side.
Cooper enjoys regular exercise and play, particularly with his canine foster brother. He will need consistent activity or he will become restless. He’s patient during grooming, he eats twice daily without issue, and he shows no food sensitivities. And, like most Springers, he loves treats!
To show that he craves attention from humans, he gives “Cooper hugs,” leaning his full body and head into you so that you pet him. He will also passively but insistently get between humans and other dogs that “his” people may be petting. We are working on teaching him to wait his turn! This charming character also does a little tippy-tappy dance with his front paws when he’s excited to see his humans.
As you can see in one of his photos, Cooper relaxes comfortably in his open crate and is content when he’s alone, showing no aversion to being kenneled when his people leave. At home, he’s friendly with children and is gentle during interactions with little ones. We think that Cooper is a mix of Springer and possibly Aussie or Border Collie, but we do not know for sure.
Cooper avoids confrontation. He never growls but rather prefers to remove himself from a situation if he is uncomfortable. He’s cautious when meeting new dogs, but he does warm up. Cooper especially enjoys active, playful canine companions, but he will respectfully give space to less sociable dogs. Our boy is sensitive to loud noises and quick corrections. He does not bark excessively.
This handsome guy would be ideal for a family with elementary-age or older children. He would thrive as either an only dog or with other friendly, active dogs. Given his temperament and trainability, we feel that he has a strong potential to become a therapy or agility dog. This gentle soul will do best in a home that uses positive reinforcement. He is very sensitive to commands and the word No. He would not do well in a home that uses the kennel and/or isolation as punishment.
