Winnie is a very sweet English Springer Spaniel mix. Our best guess is that she has basset or some other sort of hound in her background. She ended up in a Michigan shelter, but we don’t know the circumstances that got her there. After clearing up a nasty urinary tract infection, Winnie became an easy house guest for her foster mom, and she is doing well under ESRA’s care.

We know that someone has worked with Winnie along the way because she knows basic commands such as Sit, Stay, and Come. She is also crate trained and will go there when it is pointed to and she is given the command Crate. However, Winnie isn’t really crazy about being inside her crate, and she will bark for a period of time when she is in it. Clearly, she much prefers to be with her people and/or canine company. Therefore, a Forever Home with at least one other canine friend will be important for Winnie. In addition, she will need a family that isn’t away from home for long periods of time.

This pretty girl loves running in the fenced backyard, but she comes to her people quickly when she is called. When she is indoors, she lies quietly at her foster mom’s feet while Mom works at home. Winnie doesn’t attempt to get on the bed or furniture even though her foster siblings believe they are above sleeping on the floor. Winnie is content to be crated next to the bed at night.

Winnie sits nicely in the pack with her three foster siblings to get treats, but she is protective of her food at meal time. She is food motivated and can be something of a resource guarder with food and/or bones, but this behavior is completely manageable. Winnie’s triggers have been identified by her foster mom, and she will be happy to talk things through with potential adopters. A home with small children is not recommended for Winnie, but she should be fine with teenagers.

Our girl is heartworm negative and up to date on vaccinations. She has been microchipped and spayed. Although her UTI is cleared up, there is still some slight, occasional leaking—just a small dribble. At the moment, Winnie is on a daily dose of Proin, which helps to control this.

Winnie is a loving soul who just needs a Forever Family to love her back and give her the care and attention she needs and deserves. If you think that family might be yours, please fill out an online Adoption Application and then contact her case manager.
