UPDATE, 10/27/18: Stella has now been designated a Special Needs dog. Click the heart icon to read about how ESRA was able to help her with a rare and expensive medical condition.

Stella is a beautiful Springer/border collie mix (perhaps more border collie than Springer) who is ready to find her Forever Home. Stella was originally picked up as a stray by ESRA in 2014, and she was adopted by a wonderful family in early 2015. She lived with two young children and did very well. Recently, however, Stella's family made the difficult decision to return her to ESRA because of some of her behaviors when there were visitors to the house.

As is customary for any dog, Stella reacts when strangers come calling. A firm command will calm her. It will let her know that everything is okay and will tell her that she is not to continue with the challenge. Stella needs to understand that her person is the leader who will keep everyone safe and keep everything under control. Otherwise, Stella feels the need to fill that role.

This pretty girl is well trained, walks nicely on lead, follows commands, and is good with children and other dogs. She is smart, loving, and considerate. Stella sleeps on the floor at the foot of the bed very quietly all night long. She is housetrained, rides well in the car, and goes into her crate willingly, expecting a treat when she will be left alone. She did, however, get frustrated recently after being placed in her crate three times in one day. The stuffing in her dog bed did not survive that experience.

Stella loves belly rubs and being combed, and she is trained to the invisible fence. She always comes instantly on command, even when this means that she is being called back from chasing a chipmunk, a rabbit, or a squirrel. Stella is very fast, but she hasn't caught anything running around in her foster mom's yard. Stella wants to crawl into people's laps, but she does get down immediately if asked to do so.

Well-mannered Stella does not counter surf, and she waits patiently for her food. She rests on the floor, watching but not begging during humans' meal times. Stella will only retrieve the ball three or four times before giving up -- you can't trick her into continuing that fool's errand! Because she is a digger, she should not be be confined in an outdoor pen alone. She has been near water, but so far she has not seemed interested in jumping in.

As with all ESRA dogs, Stella is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She is looking for a loving Forever Family who will be consistent and conscientious in teaching and guiding her. In this way, she can learn to relax and enjoy being the wonderful companion she is meant to be. If you have room in your home and your heart for Stella, please contact her case managet at the email address below.
