Description:

Spring was found as a stray in South Georgia and taken to the shelter when her owner could not be found. We suspect she was used for hunting and/or breeding until she developed mammary tumors, then was dumped. Spring is now all up to date on vaccines, and the mammary tumors were removed along with her spay surgery. The biopsy showed that one of the tumors was carcinoma, but there were good margins and no signs of metastasis.

Her caretakers noticed a "hitch" in her walk, so the vet X-rayed her hips while she was under for surgery, and found that she has a fractured pelvis. It is a recent fracture, so the doctor suspects that she was hit by a car before she was found. The fracture is healing so she just needs limited activity for a while.

Spring is estimated to be about seven years old. (We originally thought she was a senior because of an odd gait that turned out to be the result of an injury rather than arthritis.)  She craves human attention so is jealous of other dogs. She needs to be an only dog, or with a human who knows how to handle this dynamic. She probably spent her life in a crate or kennel, so she will need someone who can commit to housetraining her. She is a sweet, wonderful dog who loves everyone she meets. However, she does not like cats. She has a high prey drive so she will need a safely fenced yard and she will keep the birds and squirrels away!

This beautiful girl needs a foster-to-adopt or adoptive home ASAP. Please spread the word and help find a home for Spring.
