River came to ESRA after his owner moved and River had to spend his time in the garage at the new location. This handsome boy entered ESRA’s care with several conditions that needed immediate attention. He had lameness in his right rear leg and a partially healed cut on his right knee. He also had an open wound on his right hock that went to the bone. This gash was infected, and it discharged pus. The good news is that the joint capsule was not affected. All his injuries, as well as two infected ears, have been treated. We are so happy to report that River is completely healed now! He is up to date with vaccinations, has been neutered, and is ready to find his Forever Home.
His foster parents say that River has been an excellent guest, even though he snores when he’s sleeping! He is very friendly, and he loves being around people. He is good with children and with other dogs. He is not good with cats, so he will need a cat-free home.
Some things that River enjoys are car rides, swimming, playing with toys, and running in the woods. He liked to do power walks with his previous owner. River is housetrained and is allowed to have free run of the house, as he doesn’t get into things he shouldn’t. He is well behaved at the groomer’s.
River does need work on his commands, but the good news is that he is a fast and attentive learner. His foster family has been working with River on his obedience skills, and they report that within the first two days of foster care, he was already trained off leash. He also does recalls well now. River would not be a good candidate for hunt training as he is afraid of loud noises.
If you are looking for a real sweetheart and a cuddler (and if you wouldn’t mind the snoring), River is waiting to meet you! Please fill out an online adoption application, and then contact his foster family at the email address below for more information.
