Smart, beautiful, and loving -- Daphne has it all!
This absolutely drop-dead gorgeous girl came to ESRA as an owner surrender. Daphne's mother was a Springer and her father was a German Short-Haired Pointer. Her owner of the past two years rescued Daphne and her siblings when they were tiny pups, bottle-feeding them until they were ready to move on to their new homes. She kept Daphne for herself to train as a hunting dog. However, Daphne was better suited for the life of a pampered, indoor pet, so she reached out to us to help find Daphne a wonderfully-loving home. Her two favorite activities are snuggling with her people and running like the wind!
Daphne is a HIGH-ENERGY, graceful and stunning athlete! She needs far more than a couple of daily walks. She craves a large area, as she's been accustomed, where she can run, chase birds and race other dogs. At the large local dog park, she leaves the other dogs in her dust. She will point almost any kind of bird on the ground, including (hilariously) the urban chickens that live nearby. During a recent visit, a couple of Labs were running flat-out. Daphne sped past them like they were standing still! This is the kind of exercise that she requires to keep her mentally healthy. If she doesn’t get it, she can find herself in trouble at home, engaging in activities like strewing clothes down the hallway or chewing.
She is house-trained and doggy-door trained. She walks loose-leash for the most part. Occasionally, Daphne shows some leash reactivity when passing other dogs on a walk. But when off-leash at a dog park, she exhibits perfect manners. She fares very well with her canine housemate -- the two of them have become quite the chums. She can be somewhat hesitant when encountering a new person or situation, but soon comes around. She will require some basic obedience training. She's smart and will be a quick study.
Daphne is heartworm negative and thoroughly healthy. She has been brought current on her vaccinations, spayed and microchipped for safekeeping. She is lean and fit!
In short, Daphne needs an active home -- preferably one with another young and active dog, and most importantly, lots of vigorous exercise. A Forever Home in the country with room to run safely would be ideal. If you can give Daphne all this and more, please reach out to her Case Manager.
Please note: Due to the heat of the summer months, the airlines will not fly dogs during this season. Please don’t ask us to do that.
