English Springer Rescue America's mission is threefold: rescue, rehabilitate and rehome. Cyrus is a perfect example of these efforts.
First, he was rescued from poor living conditions with a group of other dogs. (Phelps, Shelby and Simone are his relatives). The first stop was the veterinarian's, where he was examined, neutered and underwent heartworm treatment.
Second came the rehabilitation. Since Cyrus has basically only known kennel life and was poorly socialized, it is taking some time for him to get comfortable with the things most pet dogs take for granted, like the normal sights and sounds of people cooking, cleaning, talking and laughing. He has learned how to use the doggie door and to go into his kennel for meals and treats.
Now it is time for the rehoming portion of Cyrus' journey. This young man needs a patient Forever Family willing to help him relax and settle in. Because he is still timid, he would do best in an adult home with a fenced yard to explore. He is getting along well with his foster siblings so would probably enjoy the company of another friendly dog.
