Rest in Peace and Godspeed dear Yogi!

ESRA 2002-409IL

Age:10 yrs.
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/white
Weight: 45 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show-bred

Hi everybody, my name is Yogi. I'm liver & white and approximately 10 years old. I have decided that my birthday is going to be December 25th because my foster Mom says I'm such an angel. I just love to go for walks and rides in the car. I'm also very friendly and get along just great with my foster brother and sister (who are also Springer Spaniels). I am not much of a barker and am sort of housebroken. I've had a pretty hard life so far and would love a warm loving home to call my very own. I'm looking for a home that is on one level and doesn't have any young children or other dogs unless they are calm seniors like myself. It's not that I don't like kids or other dogs, it's just that I have hip dysplasia and if I get knocked down I could get hurt. I do very well with the dysplasia because I take Rimidyl twice a day. I have lost my hearing but you would never know it. All you have to do is wave at me and I come running (especially for cookies!) but because I'm deaf I cannot hear another dog's warning growl so I could get hurt if you have another dog that is dominant or food aggressive. My favorite place to sleep is on a doggy bed next to my foster Mom's bed and I never get up on her furniture. Won't you please give me a new forever home ? I have so much love to give to the right family.

NOTE FROM YOGI'S FOSTER MOM: Yogi is a sweet wonderful boy. He just loves to cuddle and watch TV with me. He would be a perfect match for a retired family looking for some quality companionship. When we found Yogi he was lost and wandering the streets. He was frightened, full of fleas and starving. Since he came into foster care he has blossomed into a happy well adjusted boy. He is in his glory going for walks and exploring the backyard, sniffing all of the flowers. I will greatly miss Yogi when he finds his new forever home but if ever a dog deserved a second chance it's my boy Yogi!

I learned a new game called bobbing for apples. I like this game and I get to eat the apples. I love apples.

Update, June 14, 2004: Well, what's a dog to do? You know, I AM getting up there in years. I'm the old guy on my block, and my hips were finally starting to bother me so much that I was having REAL trouble getting around. There aren't too many options for a dog like me when we get to the point that we are almost immobile. But I'm such a likable old guy that my foster mom decided there WAS another option (to what?), and this is what she came up with. I sure love my foster mom!

I'm not slow any more, nosireee! But the cats on the block still laugh. My cart is great, fantastic, awesome. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Love and Springer kisses,

Yogi

Update, October 6, 2004: It is with great sadness that I let you know that we lost our dear senior Yogi on October 4th. He passed away in the loving arms of his foster mom, Debbie Thompson. There is a memorial for Yogi on our Regional website: http://esra.quadstate.region.pulse.net on the Illinois page. If you would like to email condolences to Debbie her email address is: 1dthompson@comcast.net . Yogi lived with Debbie for the past two years since being rescued from a shelter in Illinois where he was going to be put down because of his age and physical condition. Yogi's last two years have been happy ones filled with picnics, rescue events, camping, walks (which he loved even when he was being pulled in his special wagon), car rides and parades. And of course, sharing the bed with Deb and her husband every night. We all loved him very much and will miss him. He is now with his brother Archie (who we also rescued) and lost to heart failure this past December 7th. If you would like to sponsor another Special Needs Springer in memory of Yogi, please visit our national website: www.springerrescue.org. It is because of ESRA's sponsors that these babies have a chance for the happiness they deserve and the medical care they need.

Sincerely,
Diane Gordon
