"I wish I could say Wylie has a
wonderful future. Sadly, that is not the case.
Wylie's is a ten year old boy who lived in Illinois, and his owner went into a nursing home, and had no one to take him in.
So, he was left outside, tied to a doghouse, until someone would be willing to take care of him. Winter was approaching and
Wylie was trying to stay warm outside, which was something he was not used to. It gets pretty cold in Illinois. Finally,
the ladies from ESRA stepped forward and said they would take Wylie into foster care. When everyone met this charming boy,
they instantly fell in love with him. His cuteness can sure get someones attention.
Arrangments were made to have Wylie sent to a foster mom, Judy Manley, in Ohio. Everyone involved with the
transport along the way wanted to keep Wylie because of his charm.
He arrived and made everyone smile at his new foster home. One day, someone came by to adopt a female that was also in
foster care and while there, they met Wylie. It was love at first sight for them and their choice rapidly changed; they
chose to adopt Wylie. He was in their care for about 2 weeks and a while at a vet visit, it was observed he had a lump of
some sort inside his neck. A biopsy was immediately done and the bad news came back, Wylie has cancer. The adopters decided
they could not deal with his health problems and took him back to the foster mom. Again, Wylie found himself an orphan.
Wylie was taken to a specialist and the veterinarian reported that he has a tumor on his thyroid that needed to be removed.
Surgery was performed but the veterinarian found when they went in to operate that the tumor had spread and was around the
thyroid and into the larynx area. He could not remove the base of the tumor. The prognosis is not good. The veterinarian
said, he may have only six months to live. Eventually the tumor will choke Wylie and his foster mom will need to release
him from any suffering.
At the time of this writing he is romping and playing and is full of life. Hopefully, he will not feel the effects of his
tumor soon.
So after our attempt at this expensive surgery to save his life, he will need to live his life out at his foster mom's
home. Everyone prays he will live longer than the six months expected. He will be loved by all of the people that now care
for him, and by everyone that has met him. Our hearts will break, but we will live with the peace that ESRA tried to make
his life a longer fuller life. The best we can do is to give him love in his last days instead of dying alone in a shelter,
or a backyard, tied out to the doghouse.
