Six months later: Mary Turner, Tug's caregiver and member of English Springer Rescue America and Harry Griffin, Mary Turner's friend (and Tug's buddy) talk with class of 2011 veterinary student Nayeli Rojas as she gives a patient exam during Tug's follow-up visit to the Dentistry/Oral Surgery Service at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Tug was brought to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine by Turner and received surgery in the Dentistry/Oral Surgery Service in April 2010 for two birth defects, a cleft palate and a bifid nose. Professor Frank Verstraete and resident Boaz Arzi repaired the cleft palate and restructured the nose. Ms. Turner expects to adopt the dog.

Before: Tug is readied for surgery (April 2010) to correct a cleft palate and a bifid nose. The space between the two sides of Tug's nose is visible. (The tube at the side assisted with Tug's breathing during anesthesia.)
