A dog, dripping wet down both of his front legs was found as a stray. At first, the yellow wetness on him looked like urine, but when the animal officer approached him, he was surprised to discover that the yellow wetness was oozing from the dog's ears. This dog had a large round mass under each ear, as well. The ears were raw, thickened, and unbelievable!
He stayed in the shelter for a couple of weeks, but no one claimed him. The officer said that this dog was either depressed, or in a lot of pain, when he arrived at the shelter. He would just cower in the corner. He was taken to a local vet and given some antibiotics to heal his ears. When the antibiotics kicked in, he became a happier dog. He then became the greeter at the shelter, and constantly wagged his tail. ESRA was called and accepted him into our program. He was initially named Atlas, and then renamed Rex by his foster home. He was taken to the University of Minnesota for an estimate to clear up the infection in his ears. Then he was taken to a second vet for another opinion. Both recommendations required ear ablation / bulla osteotomy for his left ear. His right ear healed and the large mass disappeared. This is where you come in. ESRA doesn't have the extra funds to give this six-year-old sweet Springer the surgery which is required to free him from pain. We want to find him a new Forever Home, but we cannot look for one until he is healed. Please consider donating so we can schedule his operation. Thank you, in advance, for your donation and caring. Rex will be a happy, healthy Springer again soon! Update 18 AUG 08: Rex had his surgery and is healing. The bacteria found in his ear was E-Coli, a nasty bacteria to fight. Everyone in the vet's office raves about how wonderful a dog he is and they just can't believe how gentle he was when they were taking care of him. He goes back in a week to have his stitches removed but he is ready now to greet potential adopters so send Carmen an e-mail to schedule a visit. Rex is turning out to be a playful, gentle dog that anyone would love to have as a companion. Update 30 AUG 08: Since his surgery, Rex is doing MUCH better, and is nearing that point where he will be available for adoption! Yipeeeee! Contact: Kathy Raidt braidt@minn.net
