November, 2003Penny came to us from the shelter and she was really a sad mess. A loving older dog, her coat was matted and filthy. She was a sweet girl and it showed in her beautiful eyes. Penny suffered from a terrible bladder infection and needed medication and immediate treatment.
Unfortunately, at her initial vet check-up we discovered that Penny suffers Incontinence. This means her bladder leaks without her knowing it. While Penny's condition is not curable, there's lots we can do to help manage her symptoms. She is able to control her urine with the use of medication taken twice a day. As long as she takes the medication she is able to be clean and dry in the house.
Penny also has some hip dysphasia and her X-rays show a lot of arthritis on one hip. Penny also takes medication for her hip every day, and once a week gets an injection to build up the fluids that keep her hip lubricated. She gets a diet of food that also supports good joint health. Because of her hips Penny can only have light exercise.
Health problems aside, Penny is a happy, loving girl who thinks the world revolves around her. She loves belly rubs, scratches behind the ear, a warm spot on the couch. Penny is the perfect lounging companion and she wants nothing more than a special person who will give her back some of the love she's given over the years. She also wants you to hold her paw. She really wants to be your only dog and have your full attention.
