Mandy came to us from a puppy mill breeder. She was one of the Missouri 14. You can read more about where
she came from, and see how she lived, at http://www.springerrescue.org/fourteen.html.

This poor little girl had hardly ever been outside of her crate and didn't even know how to run. At first she was terrified of everything, preferring to hide in her crate and only come out when no one was in the room. She quickly learned to love her foster brother and began to follow him everywhere. He taught her how to swim and run, and that people weren't bad. ( They feed you and rub your belly). Slowly she started to explore the world and the tail
began to wag, ever more quickly. And then she discovered that people didn't just give food and belly rubs, they gave love, too. Mandy liked that so much she repaid every bid of affection with lots and lots of doggie kisses.

But just as Mandy was starting to learn how good her new life was going to be, running and swimming, and chasing butterflies, and snuggling with her foster brother, we all learned just how tough her past life may have been. A lump on her neck that was originally diagnosed as benign cyst began to grow very quickly till soon it was the size of a small orange. Another exam by the vet indicated it to be a salivary mucocele.

This means her saliva gland has been damaged and is leaking into her body, probably a result of trauma to the neck area. The gland can't be repaired, it can only be removed. Because it is located in the neck close to the arteries and nerves, it is a very delicate procedure and can only be performed by a board certified surgeon. Recovery will take weeks, but should not cause her any future problems.

Mandy is just beginning to enjoy her new life, and has a heart full of this newly- discovered stuff called love. She showers everyone, people and pups alike, with kisses when given the chance. She is even trying to make friends with her foster dad's kitty cat, although he snarls at her and makes funny faces when she tries to kiss him.

She has not only learned to run, but is a master bug hunter, leaping 4 or 5 feet in the air in pursuit of her quarry. You will never have to worry about flies or mosquitoes in your house with Mandy on patrol. She swims, rides in a kayak and loves to have fun, and deserves a chance to have the damage done to her in her past fixed so that she can go on to be a loving addition to a new Forever Home.
