Hobbes came to ESRA just before Christmas of 2004 from a shelter in Dallas. He had a bad case of kennel cough, which we finally cleared up. About that time, Hobbes was adopted then returned to our care as he had apparently fallen ill again. This time it was a terrible kidney infection. We had to isolate Hobbes from the other dogs at the vet's. We couldn't allow him to go into foster care until he was considered not contagious anymore.

He is in a temporary foster home, but needs long-term foster care. We want to ensure there has been no permanent damage to his kidneys before he is adopted to a forever home. We are monitoring his kidney function and feeding him a special diet for now. Hobbes is a very quiet, gentle soul that would love a quiet place to live as he recovers.

Update February 25, 2005: Finally, Hobbes has gone to an amazing foster family that loves him dearly. Sadly, Hobbes fell ill this week and it has been determined he is in the final stages of renal failure. We were told this could potentially happen, but we had hoped for the best. Even the vet thought he might have several good years left. Even now, the sweet temperament of this gentle Springer soul is so evident. Hobbes' foster mom has taken such loving care of him, and will do so for the rest of his few remaining days. Here are some photos of Hobbes in his wonderful foster home.

Update March 4, 2005: Hobbes succumbed to kidney failure while in foster care. The foster family only had him a week or two, very sad.

Thanks to all his sponsors for making his last weeks comfortable.

He looks just like my Oliver, who is in the early stages of kidney disease. I hope this helps his kidney problems!
