Gamble was rescued from a shelter when ESRA volunteers decided to take a "Gamble" even though the reports from the shelter didn't sound too promising for this guy. He was picked up by the shelter as a stray and appears to have been on his own for a while. He came to us suffering with a severe skin allergy (probably from fleas) also suffering from very poor nutrition, anemic, and dehydrated. His hair was very thin, his skin raw, scabbed and bloody, and he was very weak and exhausted.

UPDATE: Gamble has been in foster care for several months now and has improved tremendously. The vet estimates his age at anywhere from 8 - 12 years old, says it is hard to tell definitely because Gamble's teeth are so worn down, but that could be because of chewing on his skin for such an extended period. His skin is 99% better and his hair has grown back shiny and a deep liver color, but he is still susceptible to staph infections and needs medicated baths weekly. He is hard of hearing but makes up for it with keen eyesight and sense of smell. His back legs are a bit weak, probably from loss of muscle due to prolonged malnutrition, a couple of aspirin help with that. He is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and is doing very well. Gamble's overall health is really very good. He has had a complete blood workup, which revealed no problems. He has gone from a scrawny 40 pound dog to a very healthy 62 pounds, and he will definitely let you know when its dinner time.

This is a very sweet loving dog who would like nothing better than to be part of a loving family. He is excellent on the leash and loves to go on walks. He loves to go to the beach and "fish" for minnows in the water. He loves to play ball and loves to play with stuffed animals, does a crazy kind of growling when he's playing. He loves everyone, is good with other dogs and is good with cats. He doesn't jump up the furniture and doesn't bark much. Anyone who takes this Gamble will end up with the Jackpot.
