Archie
was found almost drowned in a Northern Illinois water ditch by local authorities
who brought him to a shelter. They called him Grandfather. He was covered
in fleas, had hardly any fur on his back, could barely walk due to a large
tumor on one of his rear legs and had a belly that hung so low it touched
the ground. Upon his arrival at his new foster home he immediately found
the most comfortable doggy bed and claimed it as his, (much to the dismay
of his foster brother & sister who keep wondering when he's going
to leave). Although he cannot climb stairs due to the tumor and poor hips,
he is able to maneuver around the yard and inside the house. Sometimes
he falls and needs to be lifted. He loves to go for rides in the car and
take short walks and always stays by his foster mom's side. He doesn't
know any tricks or play with toys but he's not shy about making his way
to the front of the line to get a treat or a hug. He thinks his medication
pills are treats so they're easy to administer. He doesn't like to take
baths but is really good once he's in the tub. Archie has an incontinence
problem and he was not housebroken so he is crated during the day when
his foster mom is at work, which he doesn't seem to mind. He sleeps by
his foster mom's bed and wakes up at 5:00 every morning to be fed. His
foster mom tied a bell on his collar so if he wakes up during the night
she hears him so he doesn't wander around the house and have an accident.
After three months in foster care, Archie's belly no longer touches the
ground and he takes pain and incontinence mediation. He also gets two
Glucosamine tablets a day to help with his bad hips. We don't know Archie's
history but we do know that he must have been a very loyal and faithful
companion to someone. His only desire is to be one of the gang.
