Beulah and her packmates were found in a home--fending for themselves--several days after their owner had died unexpectedly. They were locked in the house for quite some time with their deceased owner, and then--when a family friend came upon this tragedy--poor Beulah (and the other dogs) were taken to a scarey little shelter--where she came very close to being euthanized, to make room for new stray/unwanted dogs coming in daily.

Even though Beulah experienced this trauma, she is coming around quickly. She is very happy to be in a home environment again. She is sweet and loving--and really cute too! Please consider giving Beulah a loving Forever Home.

Kit was abandoned, tied up behind someone's garage, then went to animal control. She was then pulled out of animal control and transferred to Northwoods Humane Society. Needless to say, she's ready to settle down in a forever home!

Note From A Volunteer: Kit is very attentive to her person. She watches to make sure if you have something to say so she doesn't miss it. She came with a harness and walks very nicely with it and does not pull. She has been crated in her foster home and when she goes out for a walk she pees very quickly. It takes her a little longer to poop. She understands that is what she is supposed to do when she goes out. She keeps her crate clean and dry. In her new home it should be assumed that she needs to finish up her house breaking and she should not be given free run of the house unattended until she has proven herself. At animal control she was very quiet, calm and peaceful and tolerated being caged better than most young dogs. In her smaller crate in the foster home she has been quiet and has entertained herself with stuffed animals and chewies but would prefer to spend her time with her family. In her foster home she has been submissive to the similar sized much older dog. She understood that the alpha dog did NOT want to play and she respected that. Not so when she met a young Aussie; on first meeting she nuzzled him, did a play bow and was ready to run and play. She meets strangers very well. She seems to be confident meeting new people and assumes they will like her and she will like them. She is equally good with men, women and children. She does jump up occasionally so she would overwhelm small children. Kit does not have a thick undercoat and cant tolerate cold temperatures. She might appreciate a warm jacket on particularly frigid days.

Hey there, I'm Delilah! I am a very lovable and pretty mixed breed dog (some Border Collie I think) looking to find a new home to call my own. I came here to Paws & Claws after being rescued and kept in a home for over a year that eventually ended up being the wrong fit for me. I liked to run when I went outside, and that didn't work out for where I was. I should be kept in a contained area when outside or on a leash. I do like to be outside, but I would really love to mostly live indoors. I love being with people so much! I am pretty sure I would be content being petted for hours. I am approximately 5 years old and a little on the heavy side, so I am not the type of dog that could easily go on long runs or anything. I think if I lost some weight that could be fun though! I have lived with as many as ten dogs before, so I have had plenty of experience in that department. I wouldn't mind living with other dogs in my new home. I have also been around cats, and think they're alright. I think I could fit right into just about any home, so come see if it could be yours!

Wilson is a 6 1/2 year old neutered male (up to date with vaccines). He came to us on December 16th because the family did not trust him with their young child at home. According to his vet history, he is a fearful dog and nervous around strangers. The family has an 5 year old child that Wilson has never had an issue with because she left him alone. But the son who is younger jumps on Wilson, and Wilson did end up scratching him when he was jumped on. He is a little bit stiff and uncomfortable, our vet thinks probably arthritis and he is a bit overweight so could use some weight loss. The reason I am writing is because poor Wilson is very stressed out in the kennel - he growls when people approach the kennel. When we walk by the kennel, open the door he comes out and lets us hook him up on leash and is great on walks. But with his kennel behavior, we understand it will be hard for him be adopted out and we are hoping that he can go into foster care for breed rescue where he will be more comfortable as well. If you think that rescue is an option for Wilson, we would love to talk!

This little sweetie, Jenny and her brother Jesse, were in the pound awaiting a fate unknown...but they were way to cute to leave. We were told that they were setter/spaniel mixes, but they sure look like English Springers. They are 8 weeks and ready for an exciting life overflowing with lots of adventures and social gatherings.

Jenny is extremely smart, courageous and inquisitive..she would make a great therapy dog candidate or other job, as she is very focused...and can out think all the other foster dogs that live with Kathy. She was watching 2 other dogs play with a toy, on the other side of a fence...she sat close to the fence and just observed, then snuck under the fence...started running around in circles, acting really silly, the other two dogs dropped their toy to watch, at which time she grabbed the toy and dragged it under the fence to her side....what a smart little cookie! This pup has such great potential!

Jasper is one handsome gentleman! Super social, never stops wiggling and has a great attitude. His sad eyes, cute hair-doo and silly, lovable personality is just enough to make you melt! HOUSETRAINED? Jasper was an outside dog in his previous home and is looking to be your new inside companion. He does very well at not going potty in his kennel when taken out regularly through the day. Over the LONG nights, he does pee in his kennel. His new owner will have to get him on a potty routine. OTHER PETS? With time to adjust and the proper introductions, he should do well in a home with both cats and dogs. His previous family said he did well with both. CHILDREN? Jasper does jump up every once and a while but is super gentle and easy going. With time to adjust and parental guidance, he will do well in a home with children of any age. He knows sit, shake, lay down and drop. He LOVES to play with toys and not to mention cuddle. He walks fairly nice on leash and seems to be very quiet while here. He will benefit from an exercise routine. He is going to make a GREAT family companion! Jasper is 6 1/2 years old and is 43 pounds, but needs to gain some weight.

Lizzy has been in the same home since she was a puppy. For the 1st year of her life she was in the house and a housetrained family pet. Then they decided she should be an outside dog on their farm. She has hunting instincts and would kill the chickens and ducks on the farm. Her owner has now theatened to shoot her because of this so his daughter found rescue for Lizzy. Waverly Pet Rescue now has her.

Lizzy keeps her kennel clean most the time at the vet office so appears to be still have an idea of being housetrained. Good around women, timid and scared around men. Can nip at men if she gets scared around them so would need a man with a kind hand to help her with this. She loves kids and cats. She would try to hunt ducks, chickens, racoons so would need a home with out any of these.

I am fostering a wonderful dog, JACKSON, an English Springer Spaniel about 8 years old. He is up for adoption. I call him Gentleman Jackson because he is the sweetest, calmest dog. He will be a terrific companion dog for someone who wants a dog for company and a dog that is not a lot of work. He is a neutered male about 43 pounds. He is a beautiful dog with soft fur.

He is low maintenance and trained. He will sit anytime you ask. He sleeps much of the day - - until he sees a leash :) Then he jumps up eagerly to go for a walk. He walks nicely on the leash.
He doesn�t jump on people. He�s not a barker. He doesn�t tear up the trash or steal shoes. He will give you the sweetest and most gentle kisses. He is a very polite passenger in the car. Jackson is a true gentleman !

Jackson has lots of years ahead of being a super-mellow, loving companion. He really appreciates kindness and attention. His motto is, � If you�re happy, I�m happy !�

He is the perfect age for a Springer Spaniel. He�s trained and lively, but not demanding.
He was brought to the Humane Society in Salt Lake because his owner had medical problems.
My family took him as a foster dog because he was very unhappy and shy in the kennel there.
He needs caring, personal attention to get over losing his owner.
Jackson is a gentle dog. He is timid with new people. Once he knows you, he is a love-bug. He follows his foster mom around the house. We think he is very loyal. Likely he has not been around young children much if at all. A home with older children would be better, because Jackson is a quiet dog who is afraid of sudden loud sounds, commanding or loud voices, and sudden movements. In his foster home, we are working on his self-confidence. He is doing much better in just a couple of weeks. He is a very patient dog. He really wants to please. He enjoys attention and petting. He won�t tear up your house or yard.

Jackson is house-trained and kennel trained. Jackson will chase cats. He seems to get along with other dogs.
Jackson will enjoy a calm owner and household. When he is sure you will be nice to him, he will quickly become a very devoted companion.

Can you put a smile on his face by giving him a caring home with the attention he deserves ?

By adopting an older dog, you are saying life has enjoyment and value at all ages. Mature dogs like Jackson usually have the best manners. They appreciate you so much. Dogs live in the present. Duke is a cute little Beagle / Spaniel mix who loves, loves, loves to play! Kids, other dogs, the kitties...it doesn't matter to him, he loves everyone. Duke is the perfect family dog. He is excellent with everyone, social, happy, and well mannered. He is housetrained, crates for the workday well, not a barker, loves his toys and bones. He is a smart guy, motivated by food, so training him is a breeze. Duke does have a tendency to take neighborhood explorations if he doesn't get enough exercise or gets bored so needs to be kept on a leash/ tie-out or in a fenced yard and given time to run/play out his energy. Baxter came in to the shelter because his owner had to move and could no longer have pets. The own said he is good with other dogs and rides in the car well. This happy-go-lucky 1-year old springer/border collie mix is Sarge! He's a former stray looking for lasting love through adoption.

Sarge is the quintessential lover boy. Our handsome black & white bundle of playful charm adores the companionship of other dogs, cats and goes gah-gah for kids.
