| HAPPY ENDINGS! PATCH |

Forward by Kathy Patterson, NC/SC Coordinator I wanted to share a great happy ending with you all! A while back, we had an ESRA adoptee that wasn't thriving in even the *most* patient adoptive home. They tried everything. Patch was obsessed about chasing a ball--and I mean to the extreme, day AND night--and he was destructive when bored. He ate a spa cover and the family heirloom bible, among other things. After talking to his adopters and his vet, we all decided he needed a "job." Thanks to Barbara Welty's referral, Patch found a narcotic detection program in Maryland. He ended up being transported from the southern coast of North Carolina to Maryland, with the help of Mid-Atlantic's transport coordinator and several of their volunteers. He recently started work after completing his training! This story below will make you smile! It sure made me grin and burst with pride! He was a tough dog to work with to find the right spot: He ended requiring many hours from me as his coordinator... He started in a shelter, where he was found with his mom as a stray. From the shelter he went to an adoptive home, which failed... then to foster care where he was a very exasperating, BAD boy... and then to the adoptive home. They had him for about 6 - 8 months, exhausting all resources to shape him up. He was a good dogs, but he was a bit like "Rainman". His nutty, sweet, obsessive behaviors were too strong. FINALLY, success for Patch!!!! Read on....
I got a call from Maryland this
morning....They wanted to let me know that Patch is the best dog they have had come through there in the past 7 years!!!
They are the largest canine facility on the east coast with 55 working dogs. Patch is a drug dog! They expect to win many
awards with him. They wanted to know where they could get more dogs like him! Thanks again ....what a great Friday the
13th! |
