In July 2000, a Springer was found abandoned in a house where he had survived on swimming pool water for over a month. "Marley" was seized by Animal Control officers, who contacted ESRA. Pekingese Rescue helped transport him from Galveston, TX to an ESRA member in Houston, and he was then transported to our wonderful foster mom/veterinarian in Austin, TX, Dr. Lisa Schroeder. As you can see from his before photos, he was named Marley for his long dreadlocks - the only hair remaining on his body was so matted that he had to be completed shaved. Dr. Lisa took in the emaciated, mange-covered dog and nursed him back to health. His heartworm treatment had to be divided into two doses, as he was the strongest positive that Dr. Lisa had ever seen. Marley responded in kind. He loved everyone, was friendly with dogs and cats, and really liked kids! A family saw his story on the webpage, and inquired about adopting him. Their references were excellent and the home visit was spectacular - and plans were made to arrange Marley's adoption. He now has a warm, wonderful, loving home with a family who treasures him. Our thanks to Dr. Lisa Schroeder for returning Marley to good health, and to the Beck family, whose hearts are surely as big as Texas!
