KELLI

Our Own Guardian Angel!

Kelli had been a stray, picked up by animal control officers and placed in a shelter. She had fleas so bad that she had chewed off much of her hair. In addition, she was underweight, having had to scrounge for her meals.

No one adopted her from the shelter and they had to give her a date to put her to sleep. Fortunately, one of the shelter workers thought Kelli was much too sweet and young (5 years old) to come to such a sad end, and contacted the Golden Gate ESS Rescue group. A volunteer drove hours to pick up Kelli and take her to a foster home. Her foster parents (she was in two foster homes before we found out about her and adopted her) lovingly got her vet care, shots updated, fleas eliminated, medicine for itching from her flea allergy, and a healthy diet started. They do an outstanding job!

We don't know why we decided to adopt a dog this year, after years of debating the subject, but we did. We adopted Kelli in June. Little did we know that within two months time, my husband would suffer a fatal heart attack. Kelli has been our "guardian angel" through this difficult time -- protecting my children and me, and providing loyal companionship when we just want to sit and think.

Kelli is beautiful now. Her hair has grown in, and we are amazed to discover she has quite a few freckles. She loves to take walks and play tug-a-war. She can be playful, but also settle right down and mellow out when we want to read or watch TV. She's a bit of a baby, but after what she's been through she deserves to be spoiled a little bit. she is sweet and loving, ignores our two cats (unless they sniff around her food bowl, and then she noses in and starts eating it frantically), and barks enough to let us know someone is coming up the walk. We are so appreciative of these generous ESRA rescuers, who unite these wonderful dogs with new families.

Sincerely,
The Hagoods

Can't you tell this dog is really loved!
