HAPPY ENDINGS!

BUCK

Molly & Buck

My family thought I needed a brother or sister to keep me company so Dad found this website that rescued other Springer Spaniels. He got in touch with the people to discuss getting me a sister but they recommended that a brother would be better because I might get jealous.

He saw this guy named Buck on the site and arranged a meeting for him and I to meet. We got along pretty good so Mom and Dad decided to bring Buck home with us. On our way home, we stopped at Petsmart to get Buck a collar, lease and his own toys. I don't think Buck had ever been taught any manners because the first thing he did was mark a display. Then he proceeded to walk around on the shelves knocking things off. We were so embarrassed.

Molly and BuckWhen we got Buck home, the first thing he did was lift his leg on one of the leather couches. Dad caught him right in the middle of the act so Buck got into trouble. I just sat in awe and thought this guy didn't have a chance around here. You'd think the guy would have known better but he did it again a few days later and Dad caught him again. I thought for sure he was going to end up out on the streets again. That was a little over three months ago.

Today Buck has adjusted very well in our family. Mom and Dad don't think they will ever totally trust him but we sure enjoy having him around. He is such a clown. He and I love to wrestle around and play keepaway with each others toys. When we aren't doing that, Buck is glued to Dad's side. However, if the gate is left open, Buck will take off to explore the fields across the street for birds. It is usually a 20 minute plus adventure for Dad to get him back home. These escapes convinced Dad to take us to the Vet and have us microchipped. I would never run like that but Dad thought that I might follow Buck to make sure he stayed out of trouble.

Buck's pretty smart too. He's learned things like sit, down, stay, wait, play dead. We recently went to a hunt trial to see if either of us would enjoy hunting. I didn't like the noise so I decided to go back to the car real quick. Buck had a blast. He decided to go swimming in the pond, every time a gun went off he perked his ears and looked for a bird. If he saw one drop, he wanted to go chase it. After that, Dad bought some new toys that him and Buck play with. Dad thinks Buck has a chance to be a bird dog if he can learn to come back when he is off leash. I don't think we'll ever see that day.

I want to thank you for rescuing dogs like me and finding homes for them. Buck can be a pain sometimes but aren't all brothers?

Molly

PS. I'm the one with the long pretty ears.
