My Sweet Marley
On Saturday, April
12, 2003 my son Christopher and I were on our way to Seguin, Texas from
Houston. Seguin is right outside of San Antonio about 2 hours from Houston.
It was a very beautiful day, mild temperature and bright and sunny. We
got into my car and began our journey to pick up my Adopted Rescued Springer,
Marley. As we traveled west on Interstate 10 we were greeted with the
awesome paintbrush of Mother Nature. The Blue Bonnets and Indian Paintbrush
were in full bloom. A spectacular view and so appropriate to see o n
the way to pick up our beautiful Marley. God had it all planned for Marley.
He knew he deserved a good home so he put out the "Red Carpet"
for Marley's new mom on her trip to pick him up. Marley
was originally found roaming the streets of San Antonio. A Good Samaritan
picked him up and brought him to a shelter. Who ever that wonderful person
was I say my prayers of thanks every
day.

We
arrived in Seguin and we met our precious Marley for the first time. A
3 year old, beautiful, black and white (bench/show bred) English Springer.
We had only seen his picture on the web site, talked with Marley's foster
mom and the ESRA coordinators to find out about dear Marley and if he
could fit into our home. He was for us! He was going to be our new baby.
Marley came walking up to us on his leash. You could tell that his
Foster Mom
had
been very, very good to him. He came to us with no problem at all. We
whisked him away on his 2:00 car trip to Houston. He was perfect and made
one little whimper on the way back to Houston. No carsickness, no jumping
around in the car, he was "perfect". My son petted him during our short
trip, he was a little frightened but he really was a good boy.
We got to my home and my other two Springers, Billy and Watti were there
to greet Marley. It was guarded at first and everyone had to smell everyone.
It was a true blessing for Marley as he fit right into my home. It is
over a month now that Marley has been with us and he is really a brother
to Billy and Watti. They worked out the pecking order, Watti (female)
#1, Marley #2 and Billy #3. Marley had separation anxiety in his past but
that has diminished a great deal. My son is handicapped and is home all
day, every day with the dogs while I am at work. Marley now knows that he
won't be abandoned anymore. He eats from my hand wit h
my other two Springers, as this is the way I feed them. He sleeps in my
bed along with the other two as well. All three snore but that is ok I am
used to it. Marley is a very vocal Springer. He talks to me all the time,
so much so that he has my other male talking as well. He loves the birds
and squirrels in my back yard and I think he may have done a bit of
hunting in his past. He has been to my groomer and my vet and was a very
good boy. They all love my new baby.

I have a special note to everyone. Marley absolutely loves ANIMAL PLANET.
He watches the animals, particularly dogs. He goes up to the TV and kisses
it and smells it with his nose. It is so cute to watch and makes us laugh
every time. My friend did not believe this until he came to my house and
watched Marley in action with ANIMAL PLANET.
Marley is truly an angel sent to love my family. I am so glad that I made
that trip to Seguin and picked up this marvelous boy. He had a hard time
in his past but now he can make up for lost time. I cannot imagine anyone
not wanting to share his or her lives with these wonderful dogs. They
have so much love and appreciation to give.
I just love My Marley.
