HAPPY ENDINGS!

Where does our story begin?

I came from a person in Boise, Idaho with my sister, Brianna (now Sydney) when we were just 6 months old. We were the last two in the litter and the lady was trying to “get rid” of us. ESRA took us in and Sharleen Smith transported us to the Washington Coordinator, Heather Fall.

When we got to WA, we stayed with Heather Fall for a while until her house was full of fosters and then we moved to a nice couple who fostered us for a few weeks. During that time, I would visit Heather’s house often. My sister got adopted first. She lives here in Spokane and maybe someday I can see her again.

Heather must have really liked me because when her house wasn’t so full anymore of foster dogs, she took me back. I tried and tried to please her. I learned all of the things she said were important, like sit, stay, down, come, give, take, and off. At Heather’s I lived with Tori (Heather’s service dog), Buster (a Brittany, but we don’t hold that against him) and Tabby (a Pitbull, who I thought was my grandma).

Soon after that, Tori got diagnosed with cancer. Since she is a working dog, Heather said she had to retire soon. The harder and harder I worked at being good, going to doggie classes, and walking on a leash, Heather saw my potential.

Now, I am an official “Service Dog in Training”. I am learning to do all of the things for Heather that Tori used to do. Heather is now my mom and I love her very much. Mommy says that I am very important to her independence (whatever that means), but to me it means I get to go on lots of rides and see lots of places “normal” dogs don’t get to see.

I don’t know where I would have ended up if it had not been for ESRA and mom. Maybe the lady would have taken me to the doggie jail, or given me to someone who would not love me. Thank Heavens that did not happen.

Today, I am one year old and I have to say I am living the life. My mommy loves me and I love her. I have food to eat, a warm bed to sleep in and I am a very important part of my mom’s life. Sometimes I wonder ….. Who rescued who???

All my love,

Chelsea
