ESRA#: 2008-165IL
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-04-17

Age: 1 years
Gender: Male
Color: Tricolor
Weight: 47 lbs
Variety: Bench
Hi!

I'm Barkley and I'm ten months old. I just got into rescue, but I'll tell you what I know about myself so far. I am a very handsome (so I've heard) liver/white and tan tri-colored male bench Springer Spaniel. I'm neutered and up to date on all my shots.

I get along with other dogs, but I haven't met any cats yet, so I'm not sure about those. I'm very interested in all people, big and little, but I'm still a puppy and play a bit rough.

My first owners were real nice to me and they taught me how to go outside to
do my business and how to sit for treats. They even took me to puppy socialization classes. I'm crate trained, and they say that I'm real smart and that I could learn lots more if someone would teach me. I probably need someone to be home most of the time to teach me this stuff, and because I'm still little (even though I weigh 47 pounds). I love to play with squeaky toys, and as soon as I empty my water bowl, I bark at it and carry it around.

I'm happy, healthy and ready to go.

Woof!
Barkley

ESRA#: 2008-589IL
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-08-22

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black & White
Weight: 35 lbs
Variety: Bench
Blaze is a two-year-old black and white Springer. He packs a ton a personality in his little 35-pound body. Originally, he was picked up as a stray in Chicago. We had been warned that he was extremely timid and shy, but things certainly have changed since he came into rescue. He's become an outgoing, socialable lover-boy. He loves to play and is happy, affectionate and friendly with children, adults and other dogs. He's always ready to go for a walk and is learning to walk on a leash. He doesn't pull, but tends to circle around your legs and touch you with his nose, as though he's reminding you that he's there.

Blaze loves to play fetch and will let you take a toy, ball or whatever from his mouth with no problem. He's also very gentle when taking a treat from your hand. As with all of our dogs, Blaze is neutered, micro-chipped, and current on all his shots.

If you would like to meet this little lover-boy, please contact our state coordinator, Denise Garwood.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Blaze.

Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-09-15

Age: 1 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black & White
Weight: 50 lbs
Variety: Bench
Champ, as is Champion! is a one year old, black and white, male Springer. He is neutered, up to date on all his shots, and microchipped. Champ's owners were very busy people and kept him crated for eight to twelve hours a day. They knew that this wasn't fair to Champ, so they brought him to ESRA so that we could find him a home where they would have more time for him.

At one year old, Champ is still very much a puppy. He is housetrained, walks well on a leash, but needs obedience training to refine his skills. He is friendly and affectionate with adults, children, and other dogs. Due to his exuberant personality, we are recommending a home with older children, twelve and up.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Champ.

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male

Meet Gordy! Gordy is a happy, healthy, 2-1/2 year old, liver and white, neutered English Springer Spaniel. He weighs 47 lbs., is micro chipped and is up to date on all his shots. Gordy is housetrained and enjoys being bathed and brushed.

This handsome, field-bred boy is a lot more than just a pretty face. He is an exceptional example of classic Springer style, spirit and grace. This high-energy athlete ‘lives' to play fetch, loves to swim and possesses boundless enthusiasm.

He is a smart dog with a dominant personality who is particular about who he shares his home with. His adopters need to have experience, patience, and skill in handling a high-spirited dog. Because of his enthusiasm, we are recommending an adult only home. Gordy is a goldmine of potential; looking for someone with the commitment and 'know how' to develop his exceptional abilities. He requires a 5 -6 ft. fenced yard for safe exercising several times each day, and obedience training is a must.

Gordy has beauty, brains and talent. Are you the person who could bring out the many facets of this "diamond in the rough"?

  LEO CHLOE
ESRA#: 2008-615IL 2008-614IL
Status: Adopted Adopted
Date: 2008-08-24 2008-08-24

Age: 1 years 1 years
Gender: Male Female
Color: Liver & White Liver & White
Weight: 55 lbs 42
Variety: Bench Bench
Chloe and Leo have quite a story to tell. They could be the stars of 'Doggie Days of our Lives'. Their story line entails a fire that destroyed their home, their owner's broken leg and subsequent loss of a job, and as if that weren't enough - an unplanned pregnancy which resulted in six more hungry mouths to feed. Fortunately, Chloe and Leo - once homeless due to their owner's misfortune - are now in rescue.

Chloe is a lovely 1 1/2 year old, dark liver and white (42 pound) female Springer. With her full mantle and light ticking she's absolutely gorgeous. She's sweet and friendly and takes treats nicely. She needs a little work on her leash training.

Leo is a handsome 1 1/2 year old, dark liver and white (55 pound) male Springer. He's very outgoing and hasn't met a dog or human yet that he doesn't like. He will sit when asked, but needs to work on his leash manners as well as jumping up on people.

Chloe and Leo have been raised together since they were eight weeks old, as is very evident when you watch them play. They are still very much puppies and love to wrestle and play fetch. They also give each other kisses and share their toys. Their foster Mom says that it is a delight to watch them have so much fun together. They are housetrained, spayed/neutered, micro chipped and up to date on all their vaccinations.

Despite all the adversity in their short lives they are wonderful dogs that would like nothing else than to be adopted together. If you would like to meet this great couple contact Denise Garwood.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Leo.

LUCY
Orland Park, IL

dogpic

ESRA#: 2008-505IN
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-08-20

Age: 4 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 50 lbs
Variety: Bench
Four year old Lucy is confused. She has spent her whole life in her home and then one day, her owners bring home two, big St. Bernard puppies. Sweet as puppies can be, these guys were just too much for Lucy, who is on the small side.

Her owners did the unthinkable. They brought her to their vet for boarding and never picked her up again! They just left her there! They even suggested that she be put down! They chose the puppies over Lucy, who had been a part of their family for four years. The kind people at the vet just couldn't do that, and contacted ESRA to see if we could help.

Lucy is a sweet, petite, liver and white girl that needs to lose a little weight. She bonds quickly with everyone she meets, male or female, and would make an excellent companion dog. She's housetrained, friendly, and gets along with most other dogs, although wouldn't mind being an only dog. She is spayed, up to date on all her shots, and microchipped. Even at four years old, Lucy would benefit from obedience training, which is also an excellent bonding experience with her new family.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Lucy.

LUKE

ESRA#: 2008-697IL
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-09-20

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black & White
Weight: 52 lbs
Variety: Bench
Luke is a handsome 2-year-old black and white male who came to ESRA as a stray but is now in a foster home where he is learning to be a great family pet. He is very affectionate and enjoys playing with his foster Springer brother and yellow Lab sister. His foster parents say that he is very lovable but a bit of a scamp. Luke thinks that if he can reach it, it must be his: a steak, a sandwich, or a piece of toast. We call this counter-surfing, and it is correctable. Luke is very smart and is learning quickly what behavior is acceptable and what gets him in trouble.

Luke gets along with other dogs, children, and adults. He loves to ride in the car, play in the kiddie pool, and snuggle next to you for a nap. Luke is also very energetic and loves to run; therefore, a fenced-in yard is an absolute must. He weighs 52 pounds and, like all our ESRA dogs, is neutered, up to date on all his vaccinations, and microchipped.

If you would like to meet this sweet, lovable, and engaging pup, please contact Denise Garwood.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Luke.

MANDY
Rockford, IL

ESRA#: 2008-234IN
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-08-18

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black & White
Weight: 32 lbs
Variety: Bench
Mandy is a beautiful, black and white, petite female Springer. She is not quite two years old and still very much a puppy. Her original owners, an elderly couple, kept her crated most of the time because she had too much energy for them. Luckily, they realized they were not able to provide her the care and activity she needed and turned her over to ESRA.

Mandy is now in a foster home learning everything a dog needs to know to be a great companion and member of the family! She loves to play with her foster Springer sister and is great with children. She is crate and (mostly) house trained, but would benefit from obedience training. Please note that Mandy can jump and clear a three foot fence with ease, so a securely fenced yard, (minimum five foot) is mandatory.

Mandy would like to add a few things to her story: "I love to have my tummy rubbed and hot dogs are my favorite treats. When my foster Mom is playing on her computer I always put my head on her lap so she can scratch my ears. My foster Mom enjoys it almost as much as I do. When my foster Dad goes to the park to hit golf balls, Mom and I get to go with him and play in the shade. Hopefully I will find a family that will give me lots of love and attention, 'cause I'm worth it!"

Mandy is spayed, micro chipped, and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. If you would like to meet Mandy please contact our state coordinator.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Mandy.

Hi Folks,

I'm Pebbles and this is Delilah. If we could tell you our life story, it would be an interesting one. But we prefer to leave that story behind and move on to the next chapter of our lives, a wonderful one for sure. We came from a nasty old puppy mill, where we produced many puppies, but now we are living the high life inside, on soft bedding, with clean healthy teeth, and no more raising puppies in our future!

We walk pretty well on a leash, except that sometimes we get so curious about all the new things that we start tugging a little. There are so many new things to learn about.

We want to be spoiled as house dogs now that we are learning about the luxuries of life. Of course, we are spayed now, heartworm negative, and up to date on all shots. We are also microchipped. We are crate trained, and behave very well.

There is just one catch, you see we've been together for all five years of our lives. We'd really like to stay together, we're very dependent on each other. So how about it? Would you like to double your Springer fun and pleasure?

To find out more about our personalities, or to set up a meeting and enjoy our company, please send an e-mail to our state coordinator.

Love,
Pebbles and Delilah

RILEY

ESRA#: 2007-301IL
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-01-25

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 40 lbs
Variety: Field
Riley is a handsome, two year old, liver and white, field-bred Springer. He's smart as a whip, and already knows Sit, Down, Shake, Other paw and Roll-over.

We're looking for a Springer-savvy person(s) who would be willing to do whatever it takes to be Riley's owner. Translation? Obedience training, follow-thru, and lots of attention and exercise. Please don't even consider Riley if you're not willing to make this commitment.

Riley was given to us by his owner, when a move from a home with a big fenced yard became a condo with almost no yard. For some dogs this would not be a problem, but for Riley it meant too much energy and not enough space.

Think you have what it takes to keep up with this active, smart boy?

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Riley.

Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-08-16

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male

Weight: 43 lbs
Variety: Field
Rocky is a two year old, liver and white male. He is neutered, up to date on all his shots and microchipped.

Rocky, along with his father, Trapper has spent his whole life, so far, being kenneled. Since he hasn't been socialized enough, he is a bit shy at first, but like most Springers, he is very smart and a quick learner. He is learning how to walk on a leash and play, but already knows how to cuddle and give kisses.

Rocky is currently being foster in a home with his daddy, Trapper, and another dog. He would like to stay with his daddy if possible. You know what they say, "Springers are like potato chips - you can never have just one!"

Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-01-26

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 36 lbs
Variety: Field
Hi,

My name is Savanna. I am 2 1/2 years young with papers (I can't read though) and my foster mom says Cutie Patootie to me a lot, I've taken a like'n to it though, what do you think? I was told I just didn't fit in at my old home anymore, my fur siblings were tough on me. My war wounds are all healed (physically and emotionally). Moving wasn't easy, but I'm so much happier now, and I know my foster mom will help find me a forever family where I will even make everyone there as happy as me. My foster fur buds are so fun. 2 Springer's; one plays with me all the time even when I get tired of playing, the other one takes me for walks outside while we are hooked together by a leash that way I don't go out of the yard its cool (does that mean I'm leash trained) , and 1 fat cat; who sleeps by me sometimes perched up on the back of the loveseat (he doesn't mind that I invaded his space cuz I'm warm), oh and 2 horses that seemed scary at first but their pretty cool too (one even kissed me). And these foster siblings have tons of fur cousins that we go visit often, there is only one that doesn't like me and so long as he leaves me alone I'm not threat to him.

Foster mom says I'm very low maintenance. I don't have skin or ear issues or anything. I don't beg for more food or fight over it. I don't pody in the house or tear anything up when she leaves, she put away the crate cuz I didn't use it often (but I do like to let myself in it sometimes). She says I'm very loyal, I have good manners, I have great communication skills (don't know why she will ask me over and over to finish my stories that I tell though), I'm a good watch dog (bark loudly and initially growl but without a vicious bone and I stop within seconds), her friends kids are my buddies cuz they keep throwing my squeakies, she never has to look for me cuz I'm usually right by her feet, I am the tightest snuggler at bed time (I don't take up much space either because I'm kinda smaller), shears and meds don't scare me, and I am the best traveler in her truck. Personality, whats that mean? She says mine is really wonderful. I could be a family dog, a single person dog, even a older humans dog.

Tug-of-war, and fetch are my favorites. I love to look out the window for long periods of time too and I know the word squirrel. So a fence would keep me from following them. Change, again, is about the only thing I think that will take a little time. But with love from you it could be a fairly easy transition because I'm the real me now. So if you would like a Cutie Patootie with personality contact those below.

Until then,
Savannah

Age: 3 years

Trapper is a three-year-old, liver and white male. He has been kept kenneled most of his life without a family to give him the love and attention that he needed and deserved.

Despite his lack of attention, Trapper is affectionate, friendly and outgoing. At a recent public event, held on busy Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, Trapper's incredible personality shown through as he greeted every person he met, his little tail wagging furiously.

He walks okay on a leash, but would benefit from obedience training. As with all our dogs, Trapper is up to date on all his shots, neutered, and micro-chipped.

Trapper is currently being fostered with his son, Rocky, and is learning quickly how to be a housedog.

OREO

ESRA#: 2006-898IN
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-02-01

Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 42 lbs
Variety: Bench
Oreo was given up by her owners for the crime of loving too much: she loved her kids too much, her tennis balls too much, and just life in general too much. Oreo loved her kids, ages 4 and 2, running and playing with them but was too exuberant with them, knocking them down. If the kids had a toy, she would take it away and run, hoping the kids would chase her. Same thing with a tennis ball or anything the kids had that looked like a ball. Oreo is a high-energy gal, but after a session of playing she calms down very nicely.

Oreo is very housetrained, going to the door to get your attention. I believe she could be taught to ring bells at the door. She loves to nap in her crate during the day. I just leave the door open and in she goes.

Oreo is fine with all my dogs, taking a submissive roll, waiting her turn when needed. She would do best in a house with older children. Oreo would be great in a house with another dog for company or in a household that has someone home a lot. Please consider Oreo.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Oreo.

Hi!

My name is SARA May Isabella, but you can just call me Bella like my Foster Daddy calls me. I came from a shelter as a stray because I got lost and my parents would not come get me. The nice shelter humans said that they were full and had no room for me, and I was so nice that they would call ESRA and see if they could find me a home. My nice new foster daddy came right away and took me home so I could play with his two Springers. It's fun here, but I sure would like my own parents to love me and enjoy me.

I am two-years-old, and my Foster Dad thinks I'm almost smarter, and well behaved, than my Foster sisters. I know all my commands but I like to pull on a leash at times when I want to go look at stuff. I just got a new fluff and buff, and look real pretty now. I like to look out the window, and like to let the next door doggies know I'm here, then I go up to my dad and laugh at him with my funny smile and get my tail going really fast 'til I almost fall down. Foster dad thinks I'm funny when I do this, and it's fun for me too.

I am current on all my shots, and have a rabies tag too. Also, I have been spayed. I am housetrained and don't mess with anything, and I wait in line like my foster sisters to eat.

Foster Daddy says I'm the best manored rescue doggie he has had in a long time and would be a great pet for someone.

I sure hope you will come to see my smile and laugh and play with me. I sure would like to find my Forever Home. I'll be waiting at the door for you, OK?

Love,
Bella

Puppy! Puppy! Puppy! My foster home keeps telling everyone that I am a typical puppy. My days consists of playing, chewing shoes, eating, sleeping, being cute, sitting in everyone's lap, napping, eating more, and playing more before bedtime.

I love my crate where I sleep at night. It makes me feel safe and protected. I am growing and growing.... My foster dad said I put on 5-8 lbs in the first week because I arrived very skinny. I love the other two Springers in the house, and I love to play with them. I am very good at the vet's office, and I love playing with children. I am looking for a home with adults only.

I am learning to walk nicely on a leash, but if you are a runner, I could run with you. Either way, I love to go for daily exercise around the neighborhood, on trails, in the woods, and at the park. Please call my foster dad at (319) 364-0760 and come over to visit me. I am cute as a button!

ESRA#: 2007-1072IA
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-02-26

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 50 lbs
Variety: Field
Charlie was rescued in a small town in Iowa. ESRA was contacted when Charlie's time had run out due to lack of space. He was dirty and matted and a little thin and obviously lacked basic care. Charlie didn't lack Springer resiliency though, and is just looking for a good home in which to be his happy, affectionate self.

Charlie is a happy and healthy young Springer. He has a good energy level in the house and is playful and active in the yard. He walks beautifully on the leash and comes eagerly when called. Charlie rides wonderfully in the car and would probably be a dog park favorite. He adores the two other Springers in the house and is learning to get along with the cats. Charlie is really a social pup and loves other dogs and all people.

Although Charlie seems not to have much experience being in the house, he is house trained and doesn't chew anything. Charlie has some separation anxiety and needs to have his people close by. He will need a gentle guiding hand to introduce him to many new experiences he is ready and willing to have.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Charlie.

He says I'm very smart and know lots of my commands and am pretty good on a leash. I sit nice for treats and I like my new foster sisters. Then I get neutered next week whatever that means? Oh Yeah foster daddy say he is going to get me a new hair-do so I look and smell spiffy for ya all! I sure could use a forever home! Hi, Ya! They call me Tom, the new guy on the farm. I am the quiet type, just really a lap dog. I like to cuddle and stay within sight of you but never get under your feet. I even get along with the cats in the house. I don't chase the horses and I walk good on a leash or even without a leash.

I know the commands such as Come and Kennel. I am looking to be the only dog in my new forever home. I really need your love and attention. If there is another dog, then my new family would need to give me time.

I love to play, especially playing catch. I play all day with the toys in the toy box. I am housetrained, I have good manners, I don't counter surf, and I don't beg at the table. Stop by and visit me sometime. I think that you will like what you see. Call my foster mom.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Tom.

Hello,

My name is Bobby, and I'm looking for a new Forever Home. I used to live outside with my brother. Now I'm living the high life inside a house. I have a lot of stuff to learn, but my foster mom thinks I'm pretty smart. I get along well with my foster siblings, and love to play. When its time for cuddling, I love to roll over for belly rubs. I'm crate and potty trained. I'm also learning a few other important things.

I'm not sure why but they don't want me to eat food off the table or counter. Humans have so many rules! They also don't want me to pull when we go for a walk. So boring!!

Please email my foster mom so you can come over and play.

Kisses and muddy paws,
Bobby

Bobby is up to date with vaccination and heartworm prevention, altered, and micro chipped.

Howdy, all!

My name is Brandy, but my friends call me Brownie. I am having a blast with my foster parents and siblings. I like to hang out with the other dogs and play. They treat me like one of the family. My favorite thing to do is cuddle and get tummy rubs. My foster mom thinks I'm a great guy. I'm potty trained, and I get free run of the house when everyone goes to work. I've met the neighbor kids, and I like to let them pet me through the fence. My foster mom is working with me on the walking thing. I really like to pull. It makes the walk so much fun, but they keep telling me that people don't like that behavior.

I'm full of love and looking for a Forever Home. Could you be my new family?

Big Sloppy Kisses,
Brandy, aka "Brownie"

My name is Brianna, but you can call me Bri, for short. I am a 6 year-old, single, liver and white female, looking for my forever love. I am a very sweet lady who loves everyone, especially kids. While I like to play and go for walks, I am not a high energy dog that needs a lot of exercise. What I really like to do is just hang out with my family. Do you have room for me in your life? Here's what ESRA has to say about me:

Bri's first owner had to move into an apartment and couldn't take her with him, so she was headed for the pound. A very nice family saved her from that fate, but found that they couldn't keep her either, so they were looking for a new home for Bri when ESRA got involved.

Bri came to us with a bad infection in both ears, and other symptoms that lead us to believe she has allergies. With some TLC and medication, her ears are much improved, but will need to be kept trimmed, and cleaned on a regular basis to keep them healthy. For her allergies, Benadryl has been helping quite a bit, along with Omega-3 fatty acids being added to her food. Otherwise, she received a clean bill of health from the vet, is up to date on her vaccines, and is heartworm negative.

Bri is a very sweet dog who will greet you at the door with her constantly wagging tail, and hint of a smile. She is housetrained and crate trained, though she would prefer to be out with her people, and has been perfect in the house. Bri is good with everyone, dogs, cats and kids, but she may be allergic to cats, so a home without them might be best. Overall, Bri has excellent manners, but could use a little work on not pulling on the leash. She is quiet and calm in the house, and just wants to please you. Bri would be great with a family, or an older couple, especially if someone was home a lot as she does get a little lonely, though this could be from all the changes she has had in her life recently, too. Do you have room in your heart and home for this wonderful, loving lady?

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Brianna.

Meet Bristol. Just as exciting as the NASCAR track with the same name, this little pup is also a love bug! If you need a hug, Bristol is the guy. Need a laugh? Bristol can make that happen too. He is a happy go lucky dog that has lots of energy outdoors, but settles well in the house. He is fully house trained and crate trained, although the crate is not his favorite place to be. If he had his way, he would be with his people all the time. Typical velcro Springer.

Bristol was another owner surrender who didn't have the time to give a young dog what it needed. Thus, he lacks in training and social skills, but has made great strides in his foster home. He is submissive to the three resident Springers and thinks the cat is a blast. If the cat doesn't run, Bristol walks away. But if the cat runs........GAME ON!!! And I'm not sure who enjoys it more, Bristol or the cat.

Kids are another favorite. When going for a walk and Bristol sees a child, he stops, stares, and stands on his back legs, hoping the child will notice him and come over. He does jump up, and therefore could possibly knock a small child down, so children over four may be best. Bristol should also be placed in a home that already has another dog. He is very playful, and also doesn't like being left alone. Another dog could keep him company and help him feel secure.

So, if you are looking to add to your family, and have lots of toys and balls to share, why not consider this great guy?

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Bristol.

ESRA#: 2008-162MI
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-02-25

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Tricolor
Weight: 40 lbs

This sweet, loving little girl is Browser and she is looking for her very own Forever Home! She was supposedly relinquished by her former owner because she ran away too often, but her foster mom and dad said that they couldn't get her to run away if they tried, not that they would, because she is such a joy to have around! This girl is a love sponge, and just soaks up attention. She loves everyone she meets, and greets them with her whole butt wagging. Her first day at her foster home, her foster dad took the first stuffed toy out of the toy box and gave it to her, and she now walks around the house with it in her mouth much of the time. I guess that will go with her to her new home!

Browser doesn't counter surf, doesn't beg at the table (but alert, just in case), rarely barks, no accidents in the house, doesn't chew stuff, doesn't whine, doesn't jump on anyone. She is crate trained; she even goes in it on her own at times, and sleeps in it at night. She has been allowed to snuggle with her foster mom and dad in the special chair, but not on any other furniture, and she will honor an open hand to mean 'don't jump onto my lap'. She accepts boundaries and rules readily, and does not resist taking the toy or chew bone out of her mouth.

She doesn't like riding in the car much, perhaps she associates riding in the car to being abandoned at the shelter. She is not a couch potato, but not hyper either. We don't know how Browser is with kids, as don't have any to test that out, but we can't imagine her having an issue with kids. She doesn't jump up on visitors, so that would be a good thing for parents worried about their young kids being knocked down.

Browser is just a wonderful, happy, loving Springer, who is ready to find a family that will love her Forever!

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Browser.

This handsome boy is Cabo, and he is looking for his very own Forever Home! Cabo is a very laid back, calm boy, and would be happiest in a home that is the same way. He loves to fetch, when his owner initiates the game, but is not a pest about toys. Cabo does fine with other dogs but doesn't really initiate play; he would be great one-on-one or in a pack. He waits his turn for pets and is not jealous of food or attention. He has excellent house manners, no counter surfing, getting in the garbage or barking. He is very well trained, knows Sit, Shake and walks very well on a leash. He is alert to strange noises, but his first response is not to bark, he will let you know someone is there by looking out the window and then standing in front of you to let you know. Cabo is very much a typical wiggle-butt Springer with people, he loves everyone and greets all with a Springer smile and tail wag. He loves to go to the recreation area with his foster mom and two foster brothers to run and explore, and has met many people and dogs there that he has made friends with.

This handsome boy is Conner and he is waiting patiently to find his very own Forever Family! Conner was found running loose with 2 other dogs and he was quite a mess when ESRA was finally able to 'spring' him from the shelter. He had to be shaved down because he was such a mess but he has beautiful fur and will grow in his lovely Springer waves before long.

Conner is gentle, loving and affectionate..a typical Springer who wants to be with you every minute of the day. He is very good with kids but does like to chase the cats so he would be best in a home without cats. He is very 'slurpy' with his kisses and really likes to give them to you right after he has had a big drink of water! He is very good on the leash and very smart. He has already learned his new name and readily goes into his kennel. He is being fostered at a kennel and keeps his kennel clean. His foster mom is going to have him spend more time in the house with them so that we can see how his house manners are but he appears to be a really great boy! He is good with other dogs but really prefers the company of humans (unless there is a cat to chase)!

Conner is a great Springer who will make a loving friend and lifelong companion for some very lucky person or family!

Hi!

My name is Derby and I am looking for a new home. My forever home!

My first owners didn't have time for me and took me to the shelter. Then some wonderful folks came and took me home with them, but the resident dog didn't like sharing mom and dad's attention. So even though they were very sad, my second family returned me to the shelter. It was there that ESRA found me, posted my bail, and busted me out!!! Don't get me wrong, the staff at the shelter was good to me, but being in doggy jail is no place for an active, lovable guy like me. If you are interested in a cute, fun and affectionate boy, then look no more. Fill out an adoption application and let's meet. What do you say??????

Foster Mom here....Derby is a little over a year old but he is still very much a puppy. As he mentioned, his previous owner did not have time for him and it shows in his lack of training. We are working on this, but with three other dogs in the home it is hard to find alot of one on one time. This boy is very sweet and eager to please so with some time and training he will be a wonderful companion. Derby is a tall boy with long legs. If you are a runner, Derby would be an excellent running partner. Derby is fully housetrained, and is easily crated with a treat. He loves car rides, Nyla bones, and soft toys. Balls are fun too. Derby gets along well with the three resident dogs, but has not yet been exposed to cats. Because he gets excited easily, and will jump up, children over five years old would probably be best. If I didn't already have my canine limit, I would keep this boy myself. He has already wrapped his paws around my heart. If you are interested in losing your heart, here's your chance.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Derby.

Hi,

My name is Finch, and I am happy to make your acquaintance. I am a healthy, happy Springer Spaniel, with a bunch of love to give. I am young with plenty of energy. I love to play ball, go for walks, and play with other dogs. I live with my foster mom, a Jack Russell named Lucy, a cat named Timmy, and two Chinese Crested mixes, JuJu and Dolly. We all get along great, and have lots of fun together!

I was found as a stray, and was very sad until my foster mom took me in, but I really want a Forever Home of my own. Do you have love in your heart for a good boy like me?

Woof!
Finch

Finch did test positive for heartworm when he first came into rescue, but he will have his final treatment on January 14th, and can be neutered two weeks later, and then he will be ready for his very own home! He has come through the treatment wonderfully, and we expect a full recovery for this boy.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Finch.

This sweet little girl is Gabby. She is about three years old, and on the petite side. Gabby was a stray and got her name because she likes to talk, especially when she thinks it's time to eat. She gets so excited she likes to howl and make all sorts of funny noises for you. Even though she likes her food, she isn't food aggressive.

She gets along great with her foster brothers and sisters, and would prefer to go to a new home that has another dog there waiting to meet her. A fenced yard would be good, too. She is good with cats, she just leaves them alone. I haven't had her around small children, but she is very gentle. Gabby walks well on a leash, and likes to ride in the car. She has been spayed, is heartworn negative, and up-to-date on all her vaccinations.

She is just waiting for that special family to give her a great new Forever Home.

Hi there,

My name is Ginger! I am a 2 year old Springer Spaniel and I am looking for you. I weigh about 42 lbs and I get along with other dogs but I am the #1 Alpha female. Cats are ok and so are kids. I really like the kids that can throw a ball or a toy, I will play fetch all day. I stay at home most of the day with my foster brother Springer KC, and we don't get into trouble we have the run of the house. I enjoy going in the car, I love a bath and I love to swim.

Love,
Ginger

Ginger comes from a home where she was abused, but she is recovering very well and walks well on a leash and enjoys time with her foster family. There are still a lot of things she does not understand like jumping into the car, or which side of the door opens but she is a fast learner and wants to make you her new proud owner.

Meet Gus, a happy little Springer boy looking for his very own Forever Home! This boy was picked up as a stray so we don't know anything about his background but we do know he is a wonderful dog. He loves people and does very well with the female Springer in his foster home.

Probably his favorite thing though is getting love and attention from his foster family! He likes hanging out and watching Full House reruns with the kids in his foster home or pushing his nose under his foster mom and dad's hand to remind them that he needs some more petting! He is a young boy but is very calm in the house and is housetrained. Gus is pretty good walking on a leash and will sit very nicely, especially if a treat is the reward! You can take food, bones, toys, etc, away from Gus without a problem. He still has a lot of puppy in him, he loves to pick things up and carry them around, not really doing damage just being a goofy boy!

He sleeps on the floor next to the bed at night but does like to sneak up on the kid's beds to watch TV with them. He likes to play with toys and run in the big fenced in backyard. Gus is neutered, up to date with his vaccinations and heartworm negative and just waiting for a family he can call his own!

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male

Weight: 47 lbs
Variety: Bench
My foster dad named me Izzo for now but I don't care what my name is as long as you call me with your happy voice. My foster parents raise show dogs and they think I am a rather handsome boy, don't you? I have such great manners and love to ride in the car and sit up front with dad when he has time to take me for a ride. I am very calm and reserved, nothing like my bouncy foster brother, but I am the typical Velcro Springer and just like to be where you are. There are no kids where I live now but I think they would be ok as long as they are a little older and not too rowdy. I am crate trained but would rather sleep on the bed or at your feet on the floor if that is ok with you.

I have never had an accident in the house and don't have any of those bad habits that some dogs have. I was found as a stray so my family doesn't know my history but they think I am about 5-7 years old. I was in pretty rough shape when rescue found me but I feel much better after having some bad teeth pulled and a toe fixed. My toe is healed well enough to chase the squirrels when I catch them raiding the bird feeder. I liked the cats at the vet's office but my foster home doesn't have any so I don't really know how it would be to live with one. My foster parents will be glad to tell you more about me. I just need someone who will love me and give me a forever home and I promise to love you back if you give me a chance.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Izzo.

JADA

Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-02-21

Age: 7 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 33 lbs
Variety: Bench
Jada is just a munchkin of a little girl-standing only about 17 inches tall and weighing in at only 33 pounds--but she is big in every other way! She is house trained, LOVES to ride in the car, and is good with children, other dogs and cats. She is a bit on the timid side, so although she is good with children, she is a little fearful of the all the 'activity' that goes along with them, preferring to 'stand on the sidelines' and watch rather than interact. She is also a little of unsure of men, at least in the initial meeting.

Jada does have some type of skin irritation that we are working to identify-possibly a food allergy, or it may just be a lingering yeast infection as she did have bad ear infections when she was taken into foster care.

This little girl has a lot of love to lavish on the right forever family. She loves to play fetch-actually more of a teasing game of 'keep away,' but only because she likes for you to chase her a little bit. She likes to sleep in bed with her foster mom, but she will also sleep on her doggie bed if told to. She only gets on the furniture if invited-or when checking out the windows to see where 'mom' went. She is good 'off leash,' bounding back when called. And of course, no counter-surfing - a little short for that!

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Jada.

Age: 1 years
Gender: Female

This precious little girl is Kali. She was found as a stray and appears to have had a pretty rough life prior to coming into ESRA. She acts like she may have been treated with a heavy hand in her prior life so she is a very sensitive girl. Kali is very loving, quiet, low key and attentive. She will sleep through fireworks and thunderstorms and loves to lie at your feet. Kali would fit in most anywhere because she is a true people pleaser. She eagerly participates in dog activities such as runs at the state park, swimming in local lakes/streams, ball retrieving and group leashed walks with neighborhood dogs. She loves the 2 resident Springers in her foster home!

Kali is crate trained and housetrained and one of the most loving Springers you will ever meet. This girl has never met a stranger, ever, she eagerly greets every person she meets with a wagging tail and a smile on her face! Kali is a gentle soul who would do best in a quieter environment.she loves to play and be active but she also enjoys just hanging out; she wants to be wherever people are and doing whatever they are doing whether it being going to the lake or taking a nap.

This is one sweet little girl and someone will be very lucky to have her as a companion and friend!

Hi, my name is Katie. Don't you think I'm pretty? My owners were moving to a place where I couldn't go. So, now, I'm looking for a new Forever Home.

I'm still a little shy around my foster brothers, especially the one who is a little cranky, but the other one seems to be a good guy. I had a bit of a upset stomach the first couple of days, but I'm feeling much better now. I'm crate trained, housetrained, and I hardly bark at all.

I like my new foster mom. She and I hit it off almost immediately. I spent a lot of time alone in my other home, so I'm pretty independent. My foster mom said she doesn't think I'll be a Velcro dog like my other adopted brothers. I think that's a good thing.

I'm working on learning my foster mom's rules, but she said I'm learning pretty quickly. I need some work on my manners. I want to grab treats, and am a little protective of my food right now, but I'm still learning to trust my foster mom and my foster dog brothers. My foster mom says I have a lot of potential (whatever that means), and I think I'm picking things up quickly.

If you'd like a sweet girl to share your home, think about me, okay? Oh yeah, I like that song K-K-K-Katie. My foster mom sings it, and it makes my tail wag.

Update 16 JAN 08: Katie is learning Sit, Stay, and Down, to be gentle when taking treats, and to wait at the door to be released to go out. She knows the boundaries for the kitchen, where she is not allowed. She hasn't jumped on the furniture, and hasn't chewed anything of consequence (dog toys don't last long). She's becoming more socialized to her foster mom and the other Springers in the house. She'll make an excellent addition to someone's home.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Katie.

This handsome and happy boy is Keegan. He is a very sweet, attention loving Springer who is on the search for a family to call his own. Keegan is wonderful with kids and loves the resident female Springer at his foster home. He does like to chase cats so a home without them would be best and he seems to prefer the company of female dogs.

Keegan loves to cuddle and get lots of loving and is very well behaved in the house, he is left alone with free run of the house during the day with no problems. He does greet his foster family with a lot of 'talking' when they get home because he is so excited to see them. He likes to play ball with the 2 kids at his foster home and playfully barks the whole time if they are playing without him, he doesn't like to be left out! Keegan knows sit, down, and come and walks really well on a leash. He walked in a local 4th of July parade and walked along the sidelines greeting all the parade watchers with a wagging tail and big Springer smile! His foster family says that he such a joy to have around and he fit so very easily into the family in no time. Keegan is a very laid back, loving, gentle dog.

Keegan does have an underactive thyroid but this easily remedied by a daily pill that is very inexpensive. This wonderful boy is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations and just waiting for his very own Forever Home!

Lily was adopted by a wonderful family who loved her very much! Lily was their first dog and, unfortunately, they found out that her new dad is allergic to dogs, so Lily is back with ESRA looking for a new Forever Home! She did wonderfully with her new family and settled in quickly and her allergies seem to be very much under control. Below is Lily's original listing:

This beautiful young girl is Lily! Lily was surrendered to ESRA because she had some ongoing skin problems and her family could not afford to get her the care that she needed. They loved her very much and they knew that contacting ESRA would be best for her. We do believe that Lily has food allergies, but we have finally been able to get her condition under control by feeding her a fish and sweet potato food and making sure she doesn't have any grains in her diet. Her foster mom has also been giving her medicated baths twice a week that have really helped her immensely.

Lily is 22 months old and a very happy girl now. This girl is a people person: little or big, it doesn't matter, as long as she can be close to them. She loves other dogs and cats and they play tag together. She also enjoys going for car rides. She walks on a leash like a pro and is totally housetrained. Lily knows commands such as Sit, Stay and Come, and she stays in her yard even though it isn't fenced. Lily has a little bit of weight to lose, but now that summer is here and she is getting more exercise, she should slim down quickly. She is a quieter girl, who is full of love to give to a special family who will love her in return!

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Lily.

ESRA#: 2008-211MI
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-04-21

Age: 1 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 40 lbs
Variety: Bench
This cute little pup is Lyle and he is looking for his very own Forever Home! He is about a year old, and was found as a stray, and ended up in a shelter where he unfortunately spent three weeks in a crate, 24/7. But, that didn't deter this boy from being the happy boy that he is today! He has absolutely thrived in his foster home, and has become a part of his foster family very quickly and effortlessly.

Lyle is housetrained and crate trained, and has excellent house manners, no counter surfing or chewing or getting on the furniture. He is active, but not too active, very calm and relaxed in the house, and will amuse himself with a nylabone or sleep while his foster family watches TV. He rides very well in the car, and loves to go on his daily morning runs with his foster mom and two Springer foster brothers. Lyle loves everyone he meets, big and small, and really loves to buddy up with the other dogs. He does play very much like a puppy with the two adult dogs, so they sometimes have to let him know when enough is enough, but he handles this very well and never holds a grudge. He likes cats, loves his food, but will allow anyone to pick up or take away his food, dish, toy or chewie. He is leash trained, and comes to a whistle.

We think Lyle will always have this 'puppy' look about him, that makes even the weary, 'seen it all' vet staff, stop to pe,t and come back to hug, and come back and stay to pet, hug, and kiss him. His coat is soft and downy, he likes to be brushed, and doesn't react to his nails being cut.

All in all, Lyle is a wonderful young Springer that would do well with an active family that can give him the exercise, attention, and love that he so deserves!

Date: 2008-04-29

Age: 7 years
Gender: Male

Weight: 35 lbs
Variety: Bench
Nelson is back with ESRA looking for a new Forever Home! He was adopted by a wonderful couple who loved him dearly but his new mom died unexpectedly and his dad felt that Nelson was alone too much since he works and Nelson's mom had been home with him all day. He decided that the best thing for Nelson was for ESRA to find him a new home even though he loves him very much! Below is Nelson's original listing:

Hi, my name is Nelson and let me tell you a little about myself. My original owner was an elderly man who loved to toss a ball to me, he also taught me to shake but, like I said, he was elderly and he sometimes forgot to feed me, but I still loved him. One day he had to go away to someplace that could give him more help, and he had to leave me behind. I lived all alone for about a month with family coming over to feed me and let me out, but they knew that I needed to find a home of my own. They contacted ESRA and now I live with my foster mom until I can find my Forever Home.

My foster mom is a little protective of me, she can't believe what a great boy I am! She always brags about how I have never had any accidents in the house, and how good I am with her other Springer, and her five-year-old son, Cash. Cash and I have become good friends because he loves to play ball with me! My foster mom loves having me with her, and said she is going to be extra picky about my new home. That's okay because when she finds the right one, it will be Forever!!

Nelson is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and heartworm negative. He's waiting to meet that very special family that he can call his own.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Nelson.

Age: 2 years

Porter is a wonderful dog. He came to ESRA as a stray and was a very sick little man, but with a little tender loving care and a few good meals, Porter is back 100%. He has a foster sister (another Springer) whom he adores. He's also met the neighborhood dogs and kids, and he gets along with everyone he meets. He's great with children young and old alike.

Porter is the typical Velcro Springer. He's happiest when he's with his family. Whether it's lying on the floor napping, or playing outdoors, he just wants to be with you. Porter is housetrained and crate trained, although he is not fond of the crate. He knows how to Sit and Lay Down with hand signals and voice commands, he walks great on a leash, and loves to ride in the car.

Porter does seem to have a high interest in cats. He's living with two right now, and can't seem to leave them alone. I know in his heart he just wants to play, but he is very persistent in trying to convince them to play with him! Porter also loves to run and romp around, sometimes with wild abandon, so a fenced yard, and a family with older children would be his ideal.

Porter is a sweetheart of a pup who just wants his own family to love. Might that be you?

This is Quincy. He came in as a stray to a high-kill shelter and wasn't claimed. I can't imagine someone hadn't been searching for him because he had certainly been someone's dog and well taken care of.

He is housetrained, knows how to Sit, and is good on a leash. He pulls at the beginning of a walk, but settles right in. He was a huge hit at both the vet's office and at the groomer, an absolutely perfect gentleman at both places. He loves riding in the car, and is very well behaved. He will walk right into a crate, but I have no problems leaving him loose in the house for short periods of time. If it's more than a couple of hour, I put him in, but I really think he would be fine even then. He's not crated at night, at all, any more.

I was amazed at how quickly he adapted to being here. He's good with the resident cats, although will give chase if one runs. It's strictly in play. He is wonderful with his foster sister. They will play and play, and never have any issues. He loves his food, but is not the least bit aggressive, and they can switch bowls and share chewies. He's very gentle when taking treats.

Quincy hasn't met anyone he doesn't like, both two and four-legged. He's better behaved when people come to visit than my own dog! I consider him a very well adjusted guy, who could fit in any type of family lifestyle. He would adore having children to play with, but is just as content to lie on the couch with you, or at your feet on the floor and watch TV. He wants nothing more than to please everyone he's around. He has a big bark but only uses it on occasion, and responds beautifully to a verbal 'no barking'.

He does suffer from some itchy skin, shich we're still working to find the source, but it's much better than it was when he first got here.

I just can't say enough good about this guy. If I were going to keep a second dog it would be him. He's just a great boy!

Lucky Dog! Lucky Dog!! That's what people are saying about me now! Sadly, that is not how the past couple years of my life have been however.

For a long time, I had a wonderful owner, who just cherished me. He was my very best friend. Something happened to him though and he passed away, leaving me with some other members of his family. Well, they certainly did not treat me like he had. They didn't have the time for me, and I was pretty much on my own. Although I had lived my life indoors with my old buddy, these people left me outside for 2 years tied to a rope. Then, they just decided to give me up. Can you believe that? Just dispose of me, like a piece of trash. I was very very sad. Then, something else very terrible happened. I was sheltered with a couple of other dogs that didn't like me very much, and they let me know about this by viciously attacking me. Oh boy. did that hurt! They hurt me so severely (with very deep and serious bite wounds) that I needed to have surgery to survive. Luckily (here's where the Lucky Dog part comes in) ESRA came to my rescue! They got immediate medical attention for me and nurtured me back to health. I was put with the most wonderful foster Mom who just adores me, and I have just flourished in her care for the past couple of months. I am a very sweet, mellow boy who just loves everyone I meet! I love all other dogs and even cats. I do not really like un-neutered males too much though (might have something to do with memories of being attacked). I am even great with children!

I'm a happy, healthy boy now, with quite a zest for life! Even though I'm an older guy, I am still very playful and just full of love to give someone! I love playing with toys, playing fetch, taking long walks, going for car rides, or would even be content to just cuddle up with you. I am desperately seeking someone who wants to call me their very own special boy. Even though you might not have me as long as one of my younger counterparts, the years that we could share together would be just the best. for us both! People who know about Senior Springers say that there is something that is unmatched about a senior's love and that they will touch your heart like no other. Would you let me do that for you? You won't regret it!

Meet Sammie and Jessie, wonderful sisters looking for a new Forever Home to call their own. We do believe that these girls were very much loved members of a family at one time, but somewhere things went wrong and they ended up spending most of their time crated in a garage. Luckily ESRA was able to step in and get them into a foster home.

The girls were quite dirty and matted when they first went to their foster home, but as you can see they have now made a trip to the groomers, where they were very good, and are all cleaned up. Their beautiful, long Springer hair will grow in soon, and they are so much happier now that they are all groomed and smelling pretty! They were quite scared when they first arrived at their foster home, but when their foster mom picked them up from their day at the spa they were like changed dogs, happy and playful...I think they were glad to put the past behind them.

Sammie and Jessie are two wonderful sisters, who love to be the center of attention. Calm, loving, and gentle are just a few words used to describe them. Jessie, the one with the blue bandanna, is more outgoing than her sister Sammie in purple. Jessie has no problem socializing with other people or dogs, while Sammie is more likely to stay back and play a more cautious role.

As for behavior, both dogs are great! They do not get on furniture or counter surf, are very quiet, but can get 'revved up' when it is play time. They are crate trained and housetrained. They also love to play in the dog pool at their foster home, they both jump right in! Both girls do pull while walking on a leash, so they will need some training with that. When inside the house, both dogs want to be with people, and with each other. They rarely leave one another. As you can see from their pictures, these two are quite bonded to each other, and we would like to adopt these girls out together so they don't have to be separated.

Sammie and Jessie would be a great addition to any family!

Sophie was surrendered to ESRA because her family had to move into a smaller home and they could not provide Sophie with the exercise and care that she needed. The decreased activity was leaving Sophie with a few more calories than she needed.

Sophie is up to date on her vaccinations, spayed, and heartworm negative. She is a very sweet dog and kid friendly. Housetrained, knows Sit and Down. She will wait for you to put her food down, and you can also take it away from her with no problems. She is on a trimming-down plan like everyone after the holidays, and is getting a ton of exercise with her foster sister in the big fenced in yard at her foster home.

She is a typical Springer, easy going, wanting to please, and happy to be as close to you as possible. Give Sophie a look; you'll like what you see!

This handsome, young pup is Wyatt! If you could use one word to describe Wyatt it is that he is a lover. He can't get enough ear scratching and belly rubbing. He'll roll over and stretch out, all legs in the air, it's so darn cute! He's very social and likes to romp with any size dogs, but needs to be a bit more gentle with the little ones. He's been great with kids, climbs onto their laps and gives kisses. He might be a little too 'bouncy' for small kids, they could climb on him, dress him up and snuggle all day long and he would love it! He just gets a bit rambunctious at playtime. He's the kind of dog you can curl up on the couch with and lay your head on or wrap your arms around and he will just lay there and soak it up.

Wyatt is housetrained and crate trained. He would benefit from some basic obedience classes to work on his leash manners and jumping on people but that is pretty typical for a young boy like Wyatt. He would probably do wonderful at agility or some other activity that he can share with his owner as he is quite athletic. Wyatt's biggest joy in life is being with his people and showing them how much he loves them!

His foster moms want this boy to find a Forever Home where his family will adore him and shower him with affection for the rest of his life!

Hi,

My name is Bear.

I am a curious, loyal, and energetic dog with a wonderful disposition. I love to run and play with the dogs I currently live with, although I was recently neutered so I need time to heal before I can continue to play. I get along great with all the children I have met and the resident cat doesn't seem to bother me either. I enjoy riding in the car and going for long walks. My foster parents are helping me with my manners and basic commands. I am crate trained and appear to be house broken like a good dog should be. I am a very sweet boy who's looking for a loving family to call my own. I have a lot of love to share!

Woof,
Bear

Age: 5 years
Gender: Female

Belle is a very sweet girl that came from a shelter situation. She is quite the snuggler and would happily snuggle with someone for as long as they will let her. Belle is somewhat nervous in new situations, but with a little time, she seems to adjust well. She has adapted to the routine of her foster home quite quickly. As she has become more and more comfortable, she has really begun to show her personality. She's happy to greet the mornings, and she gets so excited when her foster mom gets home in the afternoons!

Other than those bursts of energy and excitement, she's pretty mellow overall. She has shown that she is very eager to please. Belle seems to really enjoy car rides, and she loves to carry toys around in her mouth for ages. Belle could use more experience in walking nicely on a leash, but I'm confident she can pick it up.

Belle is crate trained, and she actually seems to feel safe and comfortable in her kennel. Currently, we just leave the door open, and she hops into it whenever she likes. Her foster home includes two other dogs, and she has done just well with them. So far she hasn't engaged in play with them, but she seems to tolerate them fine. Belle is housetrained, and she has not shown any destructive behavior.

Belle would love to find a mellow family to call her own. She has lots of love and snuggles to offer!

Hi Ya,

Bob is my name and looking for a new home is my game.

Me and Jenny lost our owner who is now in heaven. Me and Jenny lived together our whole lives but I'm thinking that if the right home came along, I could actually go without her. I'm not looking for much, now. I just kind of want a place where I can bark, lounge around all day, eat, and sleep. I don't do much more than that which is saying a lot since I am a senior.

They say I qualify for the "Senior for a Senior." So if you are over 60 and are looking for a good friend, then call Etta. She is my temporary guardian until one of you can pick me up.

I am house trained, up to date on shots, neutered, and ready to go. Just tell me when and where. I am your dog.

Woof!

ESRA#: 2008-68MN
Status: Available

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 34 lbs

Bode is a young, energetic Springer who is looking for a new home because of owners' medical issues. Bode loves to bound around the yard and run. But he also loves to snuggle, rest in your lap, and curl up at your feet. Bode has been used to having his owner to himself, and he would probably do best as the only dog in the house. He gets along with other dog visitors, though. He growls when first meeting them but wags his tail at the same time. He does chase cats and tends to be guarding of toys and food. He walks well on a leash. There are no ongoing vet needs, just routine shots and grooming, and Bode is completely housetrained. During the day, Bode is free in the house. He either sleeps or looks out the window and waits for his owner to come back. He loves kids, but he tends to think they are other puppies and wants to jump on them and play.

Bode did not have a lot of discipline as a puppy and is getting used to being told what to do. He now responds to commands such as No, Leave It, Wait, and Drop It. He has completed Beginner 1 obedience classes. It would be great if his new owner could continue classes with him, as he is a smart boy and learns quickly. He even knows Help Yourself in German and Norwegian! When it is time for a walk, he might bring you his leash. Bode does put his paws up on the counter, and he counter surfs, but he is responding to Down. He barks and growls at times but is responsive to training to decrease his barking. Bode is a small dog, about 34 pounds. His colors are beautiful bright white and dark liver.

His original owner had to relinquish him when she developed a serious illness and went to hospice. His current owner has worsening allergies to grass, trees, and pet dander and needs to move to a condo. A stable home with lots of love and consistent discipline would be great for this little guy. Please contact us if you can help. Thanks!

Dakota loves to fetch tennis balls, loves bones, and especially loves a Kong

want to go into his crate, he can get very stubborn about it.

He has gone through one class for field hunting but he has not hunted with

springer experience.

He takes inexpensive thyroid medicine twice a day and is receiving good

Ladies, are you looking for that special guy who will gaze adoringly at you every day? Men, are you looking for that pal who will hang on your every word as you tell your stories of the fish that got away? If so, Dusy may be the dog for you.

We don't know much about Dusty's past but we know his future is bright. He came to ESRA after spending six weeks in an impound north of the Twin Cities. Our first stop was at the vet clinic, where Dusty tested positive for lyme disease and heartworm. Treatment began immediately, and he is responding well. His sweet, loving nature was apparent right away, but as he continues to feel better, his playful nature is emerging. Had we waited to name Dusty after he had been here for a few days, we would've chosen Happy for his name, as he adores being with people. Dusty sports a long tail that thumps enthusiastically whenever he sees or hears his people. The most important part of his treatment is keeping him low-key and quiet. That is becoming increasingly difficult as he is very joyful over being part of his foster family.

There are some traits and behaviors that are still unknown as we can't allow Dusty to run and play until treatment is completed. He is housetrained, and kennels very well at night, or when you leave the house. Except for the occasional belch or snore, I thought Dusty was the most quiet Springer I had ever met, until a few days ago. Even though I was home, I kenneled Dusty so that he would rest. He found his voice and expressed his displeasure at being apart from his people in the house. Even when the dogs who live on each side of us bark at him, he doesn't bark back.

Dusty knows how to Sit and will Come when called. We must keep him leashed when we take him out to potty, but as he can't go for walks yet, we don't know if he fully leash trained. He rode nicely in the car, and did well at the groomer's. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on shots, and getting along with the two resident female Springers. He hasn't been tested with cats, dogs other than ours, or with children. Dusty doesn't jump up on people when he first meets them. Dusty is a bit needy for affection, and won't let you out of his sight, but you won't find a more loyal family member. I think some of the neediness will go away when he realizes he is in his Forever Home. If you are the lucky family that Dusty chooses as his very own, he should be able to go home after he completes treatment in early May. If you think you might be Dusty's new family, please contact us for more info.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Dusty.

Hi ya,

I'm Jake!

I'm a six year old, black and white, field bred (check out all my spots), neutered male. I'm up to date on all my shots and am in good health. I am house trained, can be trusted loose in the house and leave you alone while you're eating. I came to ESRA as a relinquishment when my owners could no longer take care of me - it was kinda' sad as I had been with them since being a puppy.

My foster family has two other dogs, there are lots of dogs in my neighborhood and we go to the dog park to play - I get along with all dogs and know how to play nicely. I am not food or toy aggressive. However, don't let me get near a cat- I DON'T LIKE CATS. Some of my favorite things to do are going for walks, rides in the car (especially with the window down so I can sniff the air), playing with tennis balls, squeaky toys and chewing on Nylabones. I also like to wrestle with my foster family and their dogs - but we don't play too rough.

I love to be around people of all ages. My foster dad works from home and I usually hang out with him during the day. While I'll go into a crate, I really don't like it and might make a fuss at first. At night I'd rather sleep in the same room as someone else - once I go to sleep I'm out for the night and don't go wandering around.

My foster dad says I'm a good boy and I easily adapt to new environments. I'm certain I'd make a great addition to your family!

I hope to meet you soon,

Jake

Hello,

My name is Jenny and I am looking for a good home to take care of me in my senior years. I have lived my whole life with this other dog, Bob, but he doesn't need to come along with me if you only want one springer. I am better looking than he is and I have the brains, as well.

I am, of course, house trained, beautiful, a lady, and a wonderful companion for a senior who is looking for a senior dog. I don't require much. I like my sleep, my two meals a day, a little belly rub once in awhile, and I am good to go.

Our master passed away suddenly, so both Bob and I are looking for new Forever Homes. Can you find us a senior who can adopt us, or just me, through the "Senior for a Senior" program? Drop Etta a line and ask about us. Both of us are wonderful companions, and I am especially good looking.

Love,
Jenny

Hi,

They call me K.C. and say I am eight years old. I lost my family so this holiday season, I am looking for a new forever home. I like to be top dog in the family so I am looking for a home where I can be Queen. I know my commands and am very obedient. I sit, stay, and lie down.

They say I have allergies and a thyroid condition for which I take medications twice a day but they are inexpensive. They call them Treats, of which I take them readily. My foster mom feeds me Science Diet and suggests that I should try Science Diet Light! I don't know what she means by that?

Oh, and the other thing you might like to know is that I do not chew and am totally house trained. I get along well with cats. There are three of them here in my foster home. My foster mom also said that I have the unladylike habit of snoring when I am asleep. Umph!

I love the outdoors so if you think that you can offer me a forever home, please contact my foster mom and she will be only too happy to tell you more about me. Hope to hear from you soon,

Love,
K.C.

KENO
Savage, MN

ESRA#: 2008-642SD
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-08-04

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 69 lbs
Variety: Field
If you looked up the phrase, Wonderful Dog, in the dictionary, you'd see a photo of Keno. His list of favorite things includes being with his people, playing with dog toys, chasing a tennis ball, and getting tummy tickles. Keno is a very happy, smiley, sweet boy. He was originally a stray found in the Sioux Falls, SD, area and spent six weeks in a shelter there. It appears he had been taken care of as his beautiful coat is in great shape and he was overfed. Keno is taller and longer than many springers so his ideal weight will be about 60 pounds. In the short time he has been in our care, he has already lost 4 pounds, a much more impressive result than what his foster mom has achieved.

Keno gets along well with the 2 resident female springers. Though he enjoys human interaction, he isn't a clingy dog. He kennels well when we are gone but voices his displeasure when he is kenneled at bedtime. He usually lets out a few woofs but will then settle in nicely for the night when told, Keno - No. He would probably prefer sleeping in a dogbed in your room. He has recently been given the run of the house for several hours during the day when we are gone and he has been a perfect gentleman. He hasn't had a single accident in the house and hasn't chewed anything inappropriate. He has young springer energy but has outgrown puppy training issues. A big plus is that he squats to potty and hasn't ever lifted his leg.

Keno has generally good house manners but would benefit from a basic obedience class. When he walks with his foster sisters, there is a competition to see who gets there first. If just Keno and I go for a walk, he walks very nicely on the leash.

Keno came to us with infected ears but, with treatment, they have cleared up well. We believe he may have an environmental allergy so he is on an antihistamine. Otherwise, he seems very healthy. Keno is a very handsome and easy dog to have around. His ideal home would be one that can give him daily exercise and attention. He would probably do best with older children since he is a larger springer but his temperament would be good with almost anyone. Keno is very easy going and doesn't even mind having his teeth brushed.

The only thing Keno is lacking is his Forever Home. If you think you could be Keno's perfect home, please contact his foster mom, Debra Ouellette.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Keno.

Rex the Wonder Dog

After receiving an injection, Rex found himself endowed with great strength, speed, stamina, and intelligence. He managed, on different occasions, to survive attacks from lions, wolves, bears, panthers, and even octopuses. His series also took a more science-fiction approach when he bested a Tyrannosaurus rex in combat. A dog of many talents, Rex could even ride a horse, operate small appliances, and swing on ropes or vines.

from Wikipedia, Rex the Wonder Dog

Our Rex is equally remarkable in his own way. Found as a stray, Rex suffered from a severe ear infection that required major and very expensive surgery. Members of ESRA contributed, and Rex is now recovering nicely. Despite a difficult and painful past, he is an amazingly friendly and lovable dog. He loves people, kids, dogs, and doesn't care about cats. Rex is alert, easy to be with, rides well in the car, meets every new person with a smile, loves his crate, and generally is a gentle and fun Springer. He is eager, alert and responsive. He gets along amazingly well with our other dogs and bonds quickly with people. I wish all who contributed to his surgery could see his happiness and love of life. He is a great pet and companion, and now he is ready to move on to his Forever Home.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Rex.

Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-05-06

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male

Weight: 41 lbs

Rusty was found as a stray and spent three weeks in an impound. When I picked him up, he was completely shell-shocked and afraid. The transformation he has made is nothing short of absolutely amazing. He didn't even know what toys were, and I don't know if he had even seen a TV judging by his amazement when I turned it on. He just watched it dumbfounded, ears perked in curiosity.

Now he knows what his toys are, and plays with them when he is excited, although his true love is going outside and sniffing everything that he can. He really puts his nose to the grindstone, and just inspects everything. I see him sniff out prey daily, and I think he could be a fabulous hunter. I know he loves it, I just don't know if he is gun shy, not having the opportunity to find out. Rusty is a happy dog and crates easily, but expects a treat for it. I have been feeding him in his crate, and he runs right in. He also sleeps soundly in his crate all night long, but wants to be in the bedroom with you.

He has been vet checked, heartworm and intestinal parasite negative, microchipped, and performed great at the vet. He has been groomed, and was very good at the groomer. He needs supervision when loose in the house, as he does like to counter surf, and will try and chew on wooden legs of furniture. He is still just a puppy at heart. He loves affection, and will take as much as you can give him. He puts his head on your lap when you sit and closes his eyes, just eating up the affection you give him.

He needs to have a home with a fenced yard, otherwise he will continue the hunt beyond your yard. If he is placed in a home with children, I would recommend they be above the age of eight, as he will jump up when excited. I think he would do best as an only dog, as he seems to be somewhat food aggressive, even though he is a very submissive dog. He needs exercise daily, and preferably more than once a day. He needs work on leash manners, as he likes to lead, following his nose.

There are two things he doesn't like, one being corrected too harshly. He will go into submission instantly. I have found he responds to correction very well, many times just above a whisper will do. The other dislike is being picked up. You can inspect his teeth, ears, paws and the like; he just doesn't like being picked up.

If you want a partner for life, and quite possibly a great hunting partner, Rusty is the dog for you.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Rusty.

Sadie is a petite puppy that was relinquished in Iowa. While we are still getting to know her, she is responsive, alert and curious. Gets along well with our dogs and does not harass the cat. She appears to be completely housetrained, with no accidents yet, and does well in the crate. She is still skittish and a little apprehensive, but is adjusting rapidly. She bonds quickly with people and loves attention. She'll need obedience training and a sensitive owner who would not overwhelm her in the beginning. I think she will be fine with children, but could be frightened if they are too active with her to start. She appears to be in great health, and is surprisingly strong. A Gentle Leader should be used to teach her to walk on leash, which we will begin.

Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-04-15

Age: 11 months
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 9 lbs
Variety: Field
Sophie endured some painful days with her eye injury/infection and was underfed and underexercised prior to her rescue. However, she has always had the sweetest personality and is extremely affectionate. She has made amazing gains in the three weeks we have had her in terms of energy and playfulness. She is small for a nine-week-old at approximately nine pounds.

She gets along very well with our 60-pound lab, and neither seems to be aware of the size difference as they play and chase each other. She shows limited interest in our cat. She is tolerated by our eight-year-old ESS. He allows her to curl up next to him at night in his dog bed. She was comfortable with a two-year-old child, meeting her, and did not nip or jump.

She was overly used to a crate when we got her, but will cry now because she wants to be out with her dog siblings who are not kenneled. She has never had an accident in her kennel. We are working on potty training. Her sign is to turn around in circles quicker and quicker. She does not like snow!

Sophie had a minor abrasion to her eye that was not treated and progressed to an ulceration and infection which has affected her vision, the extent of which is not known. Her eye with the injury/infection will require further vet care. It appears cloudy gray at this time and is not particularly noticeable. She moves both eyes equally when looking around but it is difficult to tell how much vision she has in that eye.

With limited exposure to a starter pistol and dead pigeon, she showed no fear of gun shots, and tried to retreive a bird who probably was a full one-third her weight!

She has found her voice, and barks when playing with her lab sister. She will be quiet when told.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Sophie.

This nice looking tricolor needs a new Forever Home. Bailey was surrendered to ESRA because she attacked the family cat. The cat is OK, but the family was concerned that Bailey and the cat could not live in peace together.

Bailey is also somewhat dominate, so she needs to be in a home with older or no kids, and only with submissive dogs. Other than that, she is very loving and affectionate. She is kennel trained, house trained, and is current on all vaccinations.

Please consider Bailey for your family. Thanks!

Check out this sweetie! This is Hannah Banana Fohanna (actually it is just Hannah). But anyway, this a very loving Springer. Hannah is very calm and loving Springer. As fosters, we have never had such a loving and affectionate Springer as Hannah.

She is also smart as a whip. This girl learned to be a house dog in just hours. She had lived outside her whole life and was bred a couple of times. Hannah has been fully vetted and is ready for her new home. For more info about her health report give me a call.

Hannah is somewhat protective of her space. She is OK with dogs that do not try to dominate her, but she does get pretty upset of a dog gets too close to her when she is having time with mom/dad for example on the couch. We recommend her for a family with older kids, and she would be perfect as the only dog. Give me a call to discuss more about her if you are interested.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Hannah.

Hi,

I'm Jiffy. How do you like my sun bleached carrot-top ears? Handsome don't you think?

I love to run and chase and play. I'm all puppy. I'm also a good family dog, but please give me a lot of room to run as I have tons of energy.

Kids are great, but I'm probably a too high strung for infants. I get excited and play too hard for them. I like to chase squirrels and cats, though I've never hurt one.

I'm very jealous of other dogs and should not be in a home that has one.

I'm neutered, so my roaming days are over. I also had a foot infection that's better now. I was hit by a car and that made my leg a bit weak, but it's good enough to keep pace with my über-hyper lifestyle. I am housetrained and crate trained though I do not really like the crate. I am up to date on all of my shots, have been neutered, and am heartworm negative.

I like women but I really want to hang out with the man of the house. I am ideal for a retired couple who wants a young, energetic dog to keep with them all day. Please consider giving me a home today.

Woof,
Jiffy

Hi,

My name is Maddie. I am a beautiful, six-year-old bench Springer, with a lovely full curly coat. Although, I must admit that I would feel much better with a nice grooming. I think my case manager is working on that for me. I came into rescue at a time when there were no foster homes available, so I am currently living at a boarding facility. I would really like to find my new Forever Home, as I don't get much sleep with all the activity and all the barking dogs.

I tend to be camera shy, so my pictures don't really portray how cute I really am. My case manager is working on that also. I am a good girl and I am totally housetrained, and love to be around my people. I behave quite well in the house, and don't get into mischief much, except an occasional trash can now and then. I like to snuggle with you and follow you everywhere.

One of my favorite things to do is wrap my paw around your arm so we can be buddies. I need to be placed in a home where there are no other dogs, as I like to be the center of your attention. I tolerate children, but prefer the company of children over twelve-years-old or so. I don't share well with other dogs, but I do tolerate cats. I know a few commands, but I am pretty strong on a leash. I could really use a little obedience training for my leash manners. I love to play, and swimming is my favorite past time in the summer. I am spayed, fully vetted, microchipped, and ready to find my new family.

If I sound like the perfect companion for you, please contact my coordinator.

I'll be waiting at the kennel for my new family.

Love,
Maddie

Mason is a very energetic puppy. He loves to run and play outside, and even plays with some toys such as stuffed animals and balls. He can also be a big couch potato. Mason is working on his potty training, and is improving on it. He normally goes outside when he is taken out, but he has gone out of the doggy door a few times, so he is getting used to it a little.

Meet Teddy. His litter was turned over to rescue because the breeder could not sell the puppies and they were due for veterinary care. Teddy's Foster Mom has this to say about Teddy:

Teddy is:

1. Still working on the housetraining but I'm pretty sure he is gonna get that pretty soon.

2. He gets along well with other dogs, hasn't seen any cats.

3. Weighing in at 22 lbs after surgery (neutering), he is showing signs of a great athlete, future junior heavy-weight champion, and possibly professional counter surfer.

4. A Whiffle ball is his best friend - it is light and speeds across the floor bouncing in every direction. He slides out of control into the walls trying to get it.

5. Requires lots of walks - three 20-minute ones a day keep him from destroying the house. Although still has a tendency to chew on wooden objects, furniture legs, stairs, etc.

6. Paper of any size or shape is his enemy and he is fully prepared to destroy it.

7. Is a natural on a leash. Hardly ever pulls and will sit and wait like a gentleman when I stop. Which is often for me (huff-puff).

8. Doesn't like loud noises or to be yelled at. Is scared easily. (Blowing leaves, barking neighbor dogs, butterflies, etc.)

9. Is crate trained and sleeps through the night usually 6-7 hours. He has also slept in my room a couple of times and prefers to sleep under the bed with his hind end protruding from under the bedskirt.

10. When he crashes, he really crashes and makes me think he is part basset-hound. When he wants out of the crate, he bellows like one also. He's not a wimpy-whiney kinda fellow.

11.We call him Teddy-Bear because he is big, soft, and cuddly, except for when he is wrestling of course.

If you would like to know more about Teddy, please e-mail his coordinator.

Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-07-20

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 57 lbs
Variety: Field
Boom Boom is the sound your heart will make when you fall in love with this rescued boy!

Boomer was abandoned, left to fend for himself in a rural area. Starved and lonely, he was captured by a sweet woman who provided vet care that saved his life. Now that he is in rescue, he can count on full-time care to put on about fifteen needed pounds.

Boom Boom had been someone's special boy at one time. He knows basic commands, and will speak or shake for treats. He rides quietly in the car, unless he is crated. He is housetrained and invisible fence trained. He adores people, and quickly attaches himself in a household. He gets along well with younger, submissive male dogs, and does great with female dogs of all ages. He is still inhaling his food as if it were his last meal, so you should be cautious of leaving food unattended, or casually carrying your own food at his level, as he might seek the opportunity to fill up an empty spot on his boney body!

He is a big boy with a big kissy-face. He thinks that laps were invented just for him, and he also enjoys chairs, couches, and beds! Oh the good life! Boomer just wants to live it. Please respond if you can offer it.

Update 20 JAN 08: Boomer has filled out to be a very handsome boy weighing in at around 57lbs! His personality is also filling out. He is a dominant dog, and would do best as an only dog . He also shows signs of separation anxiety when left alone. On a good note he knows and minds his commands like a machine. He is very trainable, and with a very dog wise person, would absolutely shine!

He is intense in all of his actions; he snuggles hard, eats with gusto, plays till you say enough, and is ready for a run, ride, or outing at any time. He will bond to you quickly, and expect the same. He works the field well, and has the endurance to hunt all day. I would recommend that he be trained with the Nothing In Life is Free (NILF) method of training, get plenty of exercise, and be given a job.

Indiana (Indy) has been on somewhat of an adventure in the past few months. He has found himself in 4 homes in 6 months! As you can imagine this has left him a bit bewildered and unsure of his place in a family. Such a good dog ... he just wants a home.

Indy is a very handsome, AKC boy. He is housetrained, invisible fence trained, and rides well in the car. He pulls hard on the leash, but walks fine off leash. He likes toys and water! He will greet you with a toy in his mouth, and has a ton of fun playing fetch with you. He splashes in his wading pool with joy. He loves treats and attention. After a long day of fun, or just when he is tired, Indy will retreat to a quiet place, where he prefers to be left alone.

Indy gets along well with other dogs. He learned to tolerate cats in his other homes. He is a big boy, so small children would not be a good match for him.

Mr. Indy is looking for a happy ending to his adventure. All he needs is love and someone to give it to him. He is ready to be your someone special.

He prefers to sleep in his crate at night and even looks forward to being fed there too. Lucky rides well in the car and enjoys his outings that the rides bring him. He loves people of all ages and will talk to you when he seeks out attention.

Lucky has a strong prey drive. He works the field well and may have had some previous hunting experience. His age makes him a reliable partner and an easy companion. Lucky you!

STRIPER
Omaha, NE

dogpic
Spry Springer Gentleman

dogpic

ESRA#: 2008-285NE
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-04-06

Age: 14 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 52 lbs
Variety: Field
Heeeere's.......Striper!! Striper is not your usual 14-year-old gentleman. You would never guess from his spry steps and his gorgeous appearance that he is getting up in years. He is a very gentle dog in spite of dealing with some pretty harsh living conditions most of his life. Even with the difficulties of his previous life he is still the sweetest and most loving dog you could ever meet. He had firecrackers thrown into his kennel in the early years, which of course, made him very gun shy. In his day he was also a hunting champion! Striper is an AKC registered dog, but he doesn't let that go to his head!! He loves all other dogs, in fact he has spent quite a few of the past years sharing his kennel with a beautiful French Brittany Spaniel, and they are the best of friends! Striper is also good with cats and loves children. He is a very social dog and enjoys people of all ages! He loves attention and as a typical Springer, feels he can never get enough!!

But what's not to love about a dog who is easy going, obedient, playful and friendly! Striper also rides well in a car and walks very nicely on a leash, no pulling at all. So he would be happy to go with you anywhere! He is house trained, though he hasn't spent much time indoors lately, before being taken into rescue. In his younger years he might have been known to climb out of his 8 ft. kennel. But now that he's a bit more settled in life, I don't think that would be so much of a problem.

Striper's previous owner had to leave town and wasn't able to take Striper and his friend Brittany along, so they had to stay behind with a very kind neighbor watching out for them. This special dog just needs a lot of love and attention in his remaining years to let him know how much love he still has to give and what a VID (Very Important Dog) we know that he is!!! Can you take Striper into your heart and your home to give him the love that he deserves?

Please call about Striper today!

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Striper.

ESRA#: 2008-673OH
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-09-22

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 75 lbs
Variety: Field
Introducing Ace!

Some Springers are silly; Ace is a BIG silly. At almost 22 inches at the shoulders, this handsome liver and white Springer is a very big boy, with a great big heart to match! Ace just loves everyone! He is living in his foster home with three grouchy dogs, all of whom he gets along very well with. He even tolerates the obnoxious tiny dogs next door. Seems to like the kids there, too! Foster Mom loves that he plays with his toys and has never destroyed anything!

Without a mean bone in his body, and quite a clingy boy, Ace would love nothing more than to follow you around all day long! He aims to please. He knows basic commands and is very obedient. His favorite activities are cuddling, cruising, eating, and hanging out. Since Ace almost never barks, you could think of him as the strong, silent type.

Ace has not exhibited much prey drive, as some Springers do, so he may even be good for a family with a cat.

Ace is neutered, up to date on vaccines, is a very healthy boy, and has been affectionately labeled a goofball! He longs to find his very own family where he could have a best friend (or two) and be the best buddy ever. Could that be with you?

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Ace.

He'll Steal Your Heart

dogpic

ESRA#: 2008-272OH
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-05-15

Age: 1 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 46 lbs
Variety: Field
Bandit is sure to steal someone's heart. Although he is just a year old, he has the manners of a much more mature dog. He is housetrained, knows Sit, Shake, and Stay, waits at the door before going out, and does not get on furniture or beds.

He has adapted perfectly to our home and the three resident Springer males. When given a growl, he simply backs off and defers to the more senior dogs. He has the classic Springer happy-dog personality, loves to be around people, and wags his tail to show his pleasure.

He went visiting for Easter dinner, where he was welcomed as a perfect gentleman, and played with the two labs in their big fenced back yard.

Otherwise he has not been off a leash, as we don't want to lose him. He comes when called, and walks well on a leash, but also has demonstrated some prey drive when he picks up a squirrel scent.

Bandit was lost once and deserves a Forever Home where he can run and play like the puppy that he still is, without fear of being lost again. He will provide many years of wonderful Springer love for the right family.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Bandit.

Hi there,

I'm Beethoven! Quite a sophisticated name for such a fun loving guy, if I do say so myself.

Sadly, my owner passed away and there was nowhere for me to go. Lucky for me that ESRA came along though, and these people are just the greatest! Can't you just tell by the smile on my face?

Even though I'm 12 years old (I know. no one can even believe it), I've got the energy of a much younger dog. I have no health problems, and keep up with the best of them! I am housetrained, know many commands and have had quite a bit of training prior to coming into ESRA's program. I am one of the nicest Springers you will ever meet! I love all people, other dogs, and even kitties! I love riding in the car too. I'm such a happy and obedient boy. Anyone who adopts me will be just thrilled to have me as part of their family.

Due to my age, you may not have me in your family for the next ten years, but the few years that we CAN have together will be just wonderful. Adopting a Senior Springer can be a very rewarding experience for both of us! Won't you please give me a chance, and a home where I can be loved and well cared for? I will give something back to you that you will cherish forever!

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Fondly,
Beethoven

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black & White
Weight: 55 lbs

Bella is a senior Springer. Guessing her age to be 10-12. She is housetrained, and very good about letting you know when she needs to go out, and when she would like to come back in. She likes to sleep a lot, but does get a little playful now and then by grabbing a stuffed toy or rolling in the snow, even playing with the other dogs for awhile.

She sometimes barks when you leave, but it doesn't last long because she knows you'll be back soon. I think her hearing and eyesight are also becoming "senior". She knows Sit, and possibly more, but I haven't had a chance to see what else she knows yet. Walks good on a leash. She would make a great companion for anyone. Good with kids, cats, and other dogs, even husbands.

BLAZELEY is about 40lbs., Black with Silver flecking throughout his coat. A white swatch of color on his chest. His coat is of soft, wiry, wispy hair. with a slight wave to it.

Emma's boys are Schnauzer-ish in looks, with the beginnings of beards. Their temperaments are very laid-back, (the Springer in them?!) They adore each other, and have never been apart. Both would make a great addition to a growing family, or can be adopted seperately. They're adult teeth are coming in nicely. Neither have chewed on anything except, Kongs, rawhides, toys, sticks, and of course each other. Housetraining is progressing, not perfect yet, but almost there. They are doing well walking on leashes

Hi, I'm Bonnie!

Recently, life has been really strange. One day I woke up with my mommy, and the next day she was nowhere to be found. Some people tried to explain to me that my mommy had gone to heaven, but they would make sure that I was taken care of. All I really know is that I am in need of a new family. My foster Mom is great, but even she wants me to have a family I can call my very own!

Now, let me tell you some things about myself. I am a very pretty girl, with a very soft coat! I am spayed, paper-trained, and pretty shy, but I do have a great deal of love to give. I am very loving and loyal, but need to build up my confidence. I really wasn't socialized much with my previous owner.

In spite of all that, I get along great with other dogs, and would love to have a companion. whether human or one of my own kind! I am not aggressive at all, and really just need someone who will give me something that I have heard people call T.L.C.!

I have never had the opportunity to learn a lot of things in my previous life, so if you wanted to teach me some commands, or even take me to obedience class, that would be great! Since I'm all Springer. you probably know what quick learners we can be!

If you have a quiet home and a couch that is empty, maybe I could come and share it with you?

Hello there all you Puppy lovers,

Can anyone out there see how adorable I am? I am the last of my litter mates. There were eight of us, born to a purebred Springer Spaniel mom, and a black lab dad.

I sure am a lonely little guy without my brothers and sisters, and I would just give anything to have a home to call my own, just like they now have. I don't know why no one wants me. I'm a very sweet boy and am just as cute as they all are, maybe even cuter!

As you can see, I'm growing up to be quite handsome, and, at sixteen weeks old, I am now housetrained, get along great with all dogs, and know how to sit. Oh, and I just love kids! I would love to have a home with a little two-legged friend to play with!

Won't you please consider making me a part of your family? I would show you how very sweet I can be, and I just know that you would fall in love with me too.

Hoping to meet you very soon,

Hi everyone,

Bucky here. A beautiful field-bred, young, neutered male looking for a family to call my very own! I used to have one of those. a family, but my previous owner decided that I wasn't cut out to be the hunting dog that he had always wanted, so he decided to get rid of me. He also got rid of my sister, Diamond, too. for the same silly reason! Can you even believe it?

I am a very sweet, loving, boy, who is so willing to learn! I will do anything to please you! I am house-trained, and am learning some basic obedience from my great new foster Mom. I really enjoy going for walks and rides in the car. I love everyone I meet, get along with other dogs, and don't even seem to mind the cats that are here. Oh, and I just love toys! Especially those stuffed ones! Do you think that maybe you would want to play with me? I've got lots of energy, which is pretty typical for a young guy my age. Sometimes I get so excited about the good life that I'm living now that I actually smile! Maybe I can show that to you some day!

Woof,
Bucky

Weight: 32 lbs

Hi everyone,

My name is Buffy. My owner, who loved me very much, had to move to across the country and couldn't take me with her. She contacted ESRA because she knew they would take good care of me and find me a good home.

My foster mom says I am cute as a button and have an adorable personality. I have a foster brother now and I think I have a crush on him. I like to follow him wherever he goes and I like to give him kisses. I wanted to play with the kitty when I got there but the kitty didn't want to play with me. She hissed at me and swatted my nose. So now I pretend she's not even there. My foster mom says I walk very nicely on the leash, but I can't walk as far as I used to. I really like car rides and will sit in the back with my foster brother and look out the windows.

I will bark when I need to go potty and bark to come back inside. I'll also let you know when I want a snack or the water bowl is getting empty.

Being a little bit older means I have some of the "senior" problems. I'm a little achy and slow moving when I get up in the morning but I feel better once I get moving. Going up and down stairs are a problem for me, and my hearing isn't as good as when I was a pup.

I would love to find a new home where I can snooze my days away and go on short walks. I'll watch T.V. with you until I fall asleep on a soft dog bed. Are you older like me? I will be perfect for you!

Love,
Buffy

Age: 10 months

Weight: 40 lbs
Variety: Bench
Hi! My name's Calvin and I'm a young boy with a zest for life!

Boy, have I ever had my eyes opened to this big world lately! I've learned to explore the outdoors (I love running), make new friends (dogs and people) and do my business outside. Previously, I was in a situation where I was completely unsocialized so my foster mom says my social skills, especially with strangers, need a little work. I'm doing much better with strangers coming into my house (I kind of like the attention!), but people in public still make me nervous. I would really like trying out some training classes. I'm eager to learn!

I love having a special person in my life and I've had two foster mommies that I've attached to quickly. They've told me that one day, there will be a person who will keep me forever! I'm really excited about that, and I'm practicing my snuggling for now on my foster mom. I love being close to her in the house.

When she settles down for the evening, my favorite thing to do is lie on her lap or under her feet. Sometimes she lets me sleep with her and that is just heaven! She also taught me to sleep in a thing called a box, though, and I'm now comfortable sleeping in there, too. If she's not in the room when I'm in my box, she lets one of my foster friends sit with me in there and that keeps me calm. I tend to be upset when I'm totally alone, so I'm hoping to have a doggie sibling in my new home.

I love my furry foster friends. They all like me and we get along great. I was afraid of them at first, but I guess I just overreacted. My mom says it seems like I intimidate my only foster brother. Maybe he thinks I'm too bossy. I don't think I am. My foster mom says she's the one who is the boss. I like that because that means I don't have to worry about anything and become upset. I'd rather be carefree--it sure is fun!

When my foster mom is up working around the house, I feel like I need to work, too. She takes care of about everything, though, so sometimes I just pretend like I'm on a mission to find something. They all think I'm funny when I pretend to be working. Maybe that's why they like me so much!

Maybe you have a special hobby or activity I can enjoy with you? I'd love to meet you and show you what a lovebug I can be.

Can't wait to meet you,
Calvin

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male

We are pleased to introduce a very sweet boy known as Clancy! Clancy was found as a stray, and ESRA was called to come to his aid. Of course, once we met him, we took him into our program without giving it a second thought. He is a sweetheart! He's a young, neutered, male who is playful and has exuberance for life that just shines! Look at that smiling face, and that will tell you what this beautiful boy is made of. He is housetrained, and does know some commands. We have discovered that he is quite bright and just needs a little refresher training to bring back everything that he has obviously been taught in the past. It is hard to fathom how someone could have given up such a wonderful Springer, but, lucky for him, we are here to help him find a wonderful, loving, new home. He would be a wonderful addition to any family.

Clancy gets along well with other dogs, and has a lot of energy. He would probably love a human or doggy playmate. He has not been tested with cats, so we cannot comment, at this time, on how he would be with them.

Would you like to meet this handsome young man? If so, please fill out an adoption application, as that is the next step to possibly meeting the Springer you had always hoped for!

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Clancy.

ESRA#: 2008-666MI
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-08-04

Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 38 lbs
Variety: Field
Introducing Cody! Cody is a happy boy who is simply a bundle of love and enthusiasm. He is a small, compact male and at 38 pounds is perfect for snuggling. He is crate trained, housetrained, and understands his name as well as Sit, Down, No, and he is working on Stay.

Cody is very social and loves both people and other dogs. He has met the neighbor cat and wanted only to play. He is athletic and agile, and he loves to run and play with the resident dogs as well as swim in the lake whenever he gets a chance.

A household where someone is frequently home, and where he has a playful canine companion, would be ideal for him. We have estimated his age at 6 to 7 years and he is neutered, up-to-date on shots, healthy, and heartworm negative. All ready to begin his new life with you!

Cody will require a strong leader in his human family. Once he knows that you want to be the boss he is content to follow your lead. Since he is so quick to learn and adores praise, he would be a perfect candidate for more advanced obedience training or agility. This is a boy that, with the right guidance, support, and love, could go very far. He will also require a fenced yard, as he does like to visit with the neighbors from time to time.

Cody has had a pretty bad few months recently. In addition to losing his family, he has been bounced around, leaving him feeling lost and confused. He desperately needs a Forever Home that will appreciate and love him unconditionally and allow him to share all he has to give in return. If you feel there is something missing from your life, there is. It's Cody! Please contact his foster home if you think that Cody may be the boy for you.

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black & White
Weight: 40 lbs

Hi!

I'm Diamond! I sure am thankful for this wonderful group you call ESRA! My previous owner decided that my brother (Bucky) and I were not very good hunting dogs, so he just disposed of us. I know. that's pretty sad. But, fortunately, some wonderful people came and got us and we are now on our way to finding our forever home!

As you can see, I'm a pretty little field-bred girl, with a silky black and white coat. I am very very sweet, but a little timid. I really am not too fond of loud noises (probably has something to do with those scary things called guns). Like my brother, I am house-trained, and on my way to learning basic obedience commands. I'm really doing very well with this, and my foster Mom says that I learn very quickly. I do not have an alpha personality and really like following my brother (or another dog) around. Maybe you have a home with a dog already, and would like to add a new girl to the mix! That could be me!! I love almost everyone, especially kids, and am even OK with kitties.

I really enjoy long walks, and am very good on a lead. Car rides are pretty fun too!

Are you looking for a new playmate? Do you have children or another dog that might like to have a companion? Maybe you just would like to add me to your family to be YOUR next new best friend! I sure would be happy about that! My foster Mom is great, and she is so nice to my brother and me, but we would really just love to have a home that we could call our very own. We've even talked about it and decided that it would be OK if different families adopted us.

If you would like to know more about me, or the adoption process, please contact my foster Mom, Laurie Schlegel or our Applications Coordinator, Linda Lintz.

I sure look forward to meeting you soon!

Springer kisses!

Hello, my name is Eloise and I'd like to tell you a little about myself.

I was found as a stray and taken to this awful place called a shelter. I have one word to say about that experience...yuck! Good thing the shelter knew about ESRA because now I'm living in this wonderful placed called a foster home.

My foster mom said I was in pretty bad shape at first. She said my teeth were in awful condition---all brown and green. And she kept saying something about bad breath---really bad breath. I also had several cysts on my back and tail and a few small tumors on my chest. I went to a very nice vet who removed a few teeth and cleaned the rest as well as removed the cysts and tumors.

I can't tell you how much better I feel. Eating is easier and I have more energy. Just ask my foster mom when she gets my leash out. I also interact more with my foster siblings and with other people. My breath must be better because now my foster mom lets me give her kisses!

Now being a senior I do have some age related items to mention. I am mostly deaf although I do hear loud noises. This is not a problem since I will follow you wherever you go so you can expect that I'll do as you want. If I happen to be asleep and don't hear you just give me a gentle tap on my shoulder to get my attention. I also have fuzzy vision-but it's only at close range.

Please don't let those things stop you from considering me. I love to go for walks which my foster mom enjoys because I don't pull. She smiles as I strut around the neighborhood enjoying all the smells it has to offer. I still love to chase squirrels and birds so if we're out on a walk hold onto my leash. I'm low maintenance, love naps and belly rubs and although I am not "cat tested" I like kids and other dogs. All I need is my forever home!

If you would like to learn more about me, please remember to fill out an adoption application and...

If you're thinking to yourself, "Hey, those don't look like Springers", you are correct. These precious bundles of joy are the surviving litter from Emma, one of our foster dogs who gave birth while in ESRA care. We believe these pups are Springer-Labrador mixes. Don't let the fact that they are not purebred deter you from considering these wonderful pups---they still have the ability to steal your heart, bring a smile to your face and love you unconditionally. You can be the first in your neighborhood to be the proud owner of a Springadore!

Note: While English Springer Rescue America does not accept mixes into our program, we do take pregnant pure-bred Springer females and guarantee safe placement of mother and her pups born into rescue, regardless of whether the father was a Springer or not. Emma, being purebred and pregnant and having bullets in her, became a special needs dog. A special needs dog has to have a minimum expense of $1000.00 in veterinary bills. That means we spent at least $1000.00 on Emma. Luckily, the bullets did not damage any of the pups. ESRA's adoption fee of $250.00 plus a spay/neuter deposit of $100.00 (refundable upon proof of spay/neuter) does apply to these pups.

Flitwick is a liver/white male. He is one sweet puppy who loves to eat, play, and sleep and eat, play, and sleep.

Saffron is the other female puppy. She has the smooth coat of a lab, but the typical markings of a Springer. She has an adorable liver dot on the top of her head. She is the smallest of the litter, but don't let that fool you, this little girl can hold her own playing with her brother.. She was the first to climb out of their doggie bed.

Update 12 JAN 08: As the dogs have grown, we have become aware that their father was not a Labrador, but most likely a Schnauzer, so we are now calling these pups Schnauzingers!

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Flitwick.

Hi! My name is Frasier, and I am your typical Springer, and a fun-loving little guy!

ESRA came to my rescue when I was turned in to a shelter because my previous owners didn't have time for my typical puppy energy. They said that I didn't get along with the other dog in the house, but that didn't stop me from getting along with any of the other dogs at the shelter, or the animal hospital (when I was neutered), or even in foster care. I may have a more outgoing dominant personality, but would probably get along fine with a more submissive dog.

As you can see, I'm quite a handsome boy, and would love to have a family to call my very own. I hope someone adopts me who would spend some time with me though. My previous owners didn't do much in training me, and I do need some work. Obedience classes are highly recommended by ESRA to help me learn the basics, and also to learn that my new family members are the leader(s) of the pack.

Won't you please consider adding me to your family? I would love to meet you soon!

Weight: 50 lbs

Hi all,

They call me Happy Hannah! I am a field-bred Springer with a distinctive solid liver head, except for a little white spot on my chin. My foster family figured out right away that I am trained to an invisible fence, that I'm housetrained, and that I used to know commands like SIT, SHAKE, DOWN, and LEAVE IT. While I'm a little out of practice, the really good treats here are bringing my memory back really quickly! You see, I came from a home where my people did not spend time with me, and didn't know how to treat their canine companions. So, that is how I came into ESRA's program.

I love my foster family, and I do OK with the bossy female dog that lives here. I really like watching the Cavs games with my family. I sleep through the night on the dog bed next to my foster Mom's bed. I'd rather sleep at my foster Mom's feet, but they don't allow that here. My only real complaint is that they aren't feeding me as much as I'd like. I keep bringing my food dish to my foster Mom, but she says I'm too fat. Can you imagine that?

I am an active sort and would really like to have a family that would give me the exercise I need to keep in shape. I'm ready and willing to hop in the car to go anywhere or do anything with my new family!

Please also fill out an on-line adoption application to be considered for adoption, or to schedule a meeting to meet me in person!

I hope to meet you very soon!

Love,
Hannah

Introducing Jagger, affectionately known as JAG!
Jag is quite lovable, non-alpha, is housetrained, crate trained, knows some basic commands, LOVES to play fetch, loves the water, rides well in the car, is in excellent health, and is neutered. Besides all that, he's a beautiful boy! Who could ask for anything more? He is a young active boy that would be an excellent candidate for some formal obedience work. He needs to have his energy directed to something he can focus on, and learn that he has boundaries that he must obey. We are hoping to find a home for Jag where he can have a large secure yard where he can run and play, preferably with another doggie playmate, and perhaps children that would want to spend time playing with him. This little guy just thrives on the love and affection that he can get from his humans, and we just know he'd be a wonderful addition to any family.

Would you please consider opening your heart and home to a very special little guy? He needs a family to call his very own.

Hope to hear from you soon, and thanks for thinking RESCUE!

Jazi was an owner surrender when her owners found they did not have enough time for their puppy. She is a friendly little girl who is completely housetrained, crate trained and knows a few commands. She fears someone will give her a painful correction resulting in her being fearful of approaching strangers. Jazi has made a lot of progress with her positive behavior training. Hi,

I'm Justin. I don't know why but someone dumped me and left me alone. I wandered for a while and my foster mom says I would have died if I had not been found soon. I am an old but healthy, and I love attention.

My foster mom wondered why I wasn't moving very well and took me to the vet. The vet found a bullet in my front shoulder. He said it has been there for a while and told my foster mom it would be best to leave it there.

I am very well house trained and a bit hard of hearing. I get along well with all the other dogs here. I just need a soft bed to lie on. OOHH! That makes me so happy.

I take a glucosamine tablet two times a day and it really has helped me to feel better.

My foster mom keeps telling me, "If I wish hard enough, maybe I could live the rest of my life with a real home and family." I promise not to be any trouble.

Love,
Justin

Seven months old, and STILL WAITING; Sadly, these three adorable puppies that poor bullet-riddled Emma gifted ESRA with, are still waiting to find a Forever Home. They are growing up with no child to throw them a ball, wrestle on the floor with, snuggle up in a blanket with, or to run and play in the yard with. Although well taken care of, it cannot compare to the joy it would be, to grow up in a home with children.

BLAZELEY is about 40lbs., Black with Silver flecking throughout his coat. A white swatch of color on his chest. His coat is of soft, wiry, wispy hair. with a slight wave to it.

TEDDY is about 40lbs., Black with a thin white cross on his chest. His coat is of soft, wiry, wispy hair, with a gorgeous pronounced wave. His coat is very glossy.

From KEELE: Now that I am 5 months old, my fun loving personality is really showing. My favorite play time is playing chase with my foster Dad, or chasing just about anything! I also really like those furry creatures (that I believe are called kitties). The resident kitties sneak up on me, and when they think I'm not looking I bound down the hallway after them! I love to play with them! My foster mom has told me that chasing them isn't very nice, but it sure is a lot of fun! I sometimes think that they have just as much fun as I do, especially when they sit in their little cat haven (which is just out of my reach) and look at me. I know my boundaries, but oh what teasers they are!

I have made great strides in my training. I am now a big girl and go outside to go potty! My favorite part of the day is when I curl up in the crate with my foster brother to sleep. I really love that. Best of all, I sleep through the night. I know I don't look much like my Springer mother, but I sure love to cuddle and give kisses (just like other Springers you might know).

Do you think that I'm a pretty girl? If you like liver & white Springers, you would certainly love me. as I am mostly all liver, with a few white markings.

Hi! My name is Lucy!! Just about two years ago, I was born into the ESRA program. You see, my mama was a Springer and ESRA took responsibility for me and my siblings and found homes for all of us! Unfortunately, the family that adopted me did not spend time working with me like people are supposed to do with young dogs. I am just dying to learn some new things! A typical Springer who aims to please, I am also quite an energetic girl. I do like to run, and it will be necessary for me to go to a home where I will have supervision, at least until I am trained to stay in my own yard. It will also be a requirement that you agree to do obedience training with me. I guess I really need some discipline in my life. but that would be good for both of us, because I will not only learn things, but will become very bonded to you too!

I'm a pretty little girl, as you can see, and searching for a family that I can call my very own! I am spayed and housetrained too. Would you like to be my new family? Can you commit to loving and caring for me, but most of all training me? If so, then I am definitely the girl for you.

If you would like to learn more about me, contact my foster Mom, Judy Manley at vistahknls@aol.com or our Adoptions Coordinator, Linda Lintz at llintz@rochester.rr.com . Oh, and don't forget to fill out an on-line adoption application!

Please come to visit me soon. and TAKE ME HOME!!

Pulled from a shelter by ESRA Volunteers during the Holiday Season, these two have been appropriately named Mary and Joseph (Joey for short)! No, Mary and Joey didn't live in a manger, but they did spend their first few weeks of foster care living in isolation. You see, these two little ones came to us with Parvo, and they had to be kept away from other pets while they were recovering.

Well, as you can see, they have fully recovered and are happy, healthy, BEAUTIFUL Springers! They have gone to a new foster home where they are receiving the love, training, and attention that they obviously had missed in the first few months of their lives. Until coming into the ESRA program, these two, it appeared, had limited human contact and were never taught the basics that we seldom take for granted.

Their foster Mom writes:

They are very rapidly learning to be domestic dogs and part of a family. They are enthusiastic learners and need a family who will help them continue to learn. Mary and Joey now SIT and DOWN and COME pretty well - especially when treats are involved. OFF and LEAVE IT are commonly heard in their foster home as they are curious about everything, and their foster family is very strict about dogs on beds, furniture and counters.

Both tend to love people the way they love each other, by mouthing. Until they learn to interact with humans differently, we would not recommend placement with very young children for this reason.

Joey is housetrained. Mary's housetraining is slightly delayed because of a bladder infection. But she will get this resolved once she's feeling better.

These two kids are scheduled to be spayed/neutered on 1/28/08. Shortly after that, they will be looking for their Forever Home(s). Could that be yours? Do you have the love and time to dedicate to either (or both) of these sweet Springers? It would most certainly change their lives, and probably yours too!! They do love being together, but would also be fine separated, as long as they had another doggie companion, or someone that would spend a lot of time with them.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Mary.

ESRA#: 2008-228OH
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-05-21

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 30 lbs
Variety: Field
Molly came to us from a puppy mill where she was a breeder momma. She is a petite fieldie with large expressive eyes and a soft coat with a pretty, dark chocolate color of liver. Molly will be two years old next month.

It appears Molly has spent little time, if any, out of a crate during her short life. But she is very social with her foster Springer family, and they have been a huge help in teaching Molly what it's like to simply be a dog. You can literally see her blossom in front of you as she sheds the years of neglect and begins to understand that she is loved. She has kept her foster family in stitches with her antics, and they have found that she has a wonderful sense of humor that had been buried underneath the fear.

She is a playful, energetic girl, who loves to play with her Springer family as well as her humans. At first Molly didn't even understand what toys were, but now carries one with her everywhere. But Molly's favorite pastime is lying by your side, or even better, cuddling with people.

Molly is still somewhat timid but as she learns what is expected of her she is becoming much more outgoing. She is untrained but quick to learn and very much wants to please. Right now her foster family is helping her to learn her name, and she is working on "No", "Down" and "Sit".

Molly desperately hopes that there is a family out there that will want to take her home, love her, and allow her to become a loving, loyal companion. She will require someone that is patient and willing to work with her, but she will be well worth it with her beautiful face, sweet disposition, and Springer sense of humor.

Are you that special family? If so, please contact Molly's foster mom and find out just how special Molly is.

MURPHY

ESRA#: 2008-48OH
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-02-12

Age: 11 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 60 lbs
Variety: Field
Murphy is a sweet older springer looking for a new home. She was turned in to a shelter by a family who were moving and no longer wanted her. The shelter gave her all of her shots, cleaned her teeth, and removed two benign cysts from her neck. After the surgery, she traveled to her foster home. There she was greeted by three rambunctious male springers. Poor Murphy wasn't quite sure what was going on. For the first few days in foster care, she was a bit depressed and confused, but she has now settled into our routines, knows which bed is hers, and goes to the door when she needs to go outside.

Murphy is a small boned springer and should probably weigh between 40 and 45 pounds, not the 65 that she was carrying when she arrived. After a few meal times, it became apparent that a big part of her obesity stems from having been fed from the table. She is now on a diet of green beans and kibble and is learning not to beg. In just two weeks, we have seen a huge difference in her girth. She now occasionally prances around the house and will no doubt continue to behave more youthfully as she loses the extra pounds. Her flaky skin and fuzzy fur will also be corrected by good nutrition.

As an older dog, Murphy has some physical symptoms of age as well as the wonderful habits of a senior dog. Her hearing is not good, but she does respond to a hand clap. She will also come to a wave. She walks very well on a leash and may have been taught to heel at one time. We have not let her off lead yet to see if she will stay in the yard. At first, she tried to head down the street, maybe to find her family, but that behavior has stopped as she has learned that this is her new home. We have left Murphy loose in the house with the other dogs and have had no incidents or accidents. She often heads to her bed for a nap during the day.

Murphy would be an ideal companion for someone who works during the day or for someone who wants an older, less active dog. She is a pretty lady with a lot of love left to give to the right family.

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male

Murphy is a big, cuddly black and white Springer looking for a family that he can share all of his love with, and that is a whole lot of love!

He loves people, and he greets every dog he meets with a tail wag and a "let's play" attitude. He rides beautifully in the car, although he does prefer shotgun, and his house manners are impeccable. He understands Sit, Down, No, is housetrained and crate trained, although he is so well-behaved he can be trusted in the house outside his crate.

Murphy is very happy dog, and shows it when his human comes home from work or when it's time to take a walk. His favorite hobbies include playing fetch, chasing squirrels, swimming, boat rides, and lounging with his people. He's a very debonair kind of guy that adapts to just about any situation.

He is very smart, and he learns amazingly fast. His new foster home is on a lake, which he thought was pretty cool until he discovered he had to have permission to go swimming. But he quickly learned that if he dropped his ball off the end of the dock and into the lake, his humans would give him the OK command so they didn't have to jump in and get it! Murphy loves to get that OK command and make a flying dive off of the dock and into the lake. None of those graceless belly flops for this boy! He is a diving champion in the making!

Murphy can melt your heart with his big brown eyes, and he loves to give Springer kisses. He will put a paw on your hand to let you know he'd like some attention, please, but will lie quietly next to you when you are busy on the computer, or sit next to you to watch a movie.

He does love to explore and loses track of his whereabouts once his nose goes to the ground, which is probably how he ended up homeless. As a result a fenced yard will be mandatory in his new home.

Update 28 JUL 08: Foster Mom Update: Murphy is recovering from a severe ear infection that appears to have left him without any hearing. His foster parents are praying that as his ears heal he may regain some of his hearing, but that is probably unlikely.

In the mean time Murphy is feeling better now and he has been enjoying family life. Please don't think that his handicap is a setback for him. He is already learning hand signals and seems to have no problem at all with being unable to hear. He remains an easygoing, affectionate, obedient boy and he would love to have a family to call his own!

He is anxiously awaiting his Forever Family to find him here in Ohio. Could you be that lucky family?

Hi!

My name is Oliver. You wouldn't believe what all I've been through lately. There I was, in my home with my family after Christmas. I was a present for the kids. The kids were supposed to take care of me, but they forgot about my food and water. My mommy kept telling my human kids that if they didn't take care of me, that I would be given away. Well, guess what happened? The kids didn't heed the warning and soon I was in this big place with tons of other dogs and constant barking. It was scary; I was very frightened and very sad.

Then, a very nice ESRA lady picked me up and brought me home to foster me. I was just neutered though, and so I can't be too crazy or I'll dislodge my stitches. My foster mommy has four other furry kids that I love to play with and the human kids in my foster family love me too. The seven year old one loves me most and always plays with me. I'm even potty-trained! I haven't gone in the house once. My favorite hang out is the crate which my foster mommy lets me rest in whenever I want. I like to hide chewy bones there so I can enjoy them later. My foster mommy laughs at this since somehow all the chewy bones end up in my crate! I can sit when they ask me to and I walk on a leash without pulling too. Right now, those big scary contraptions called cars scare me, but I'm sure I can overcome my fear.

Woof!
Oliver

From the Desk of the Foster Mom:
Oliver has a docked tail and has had his dew claws removed. He is a beautiful springer with long springer ears and wonderful liver and white markings. His teeth are stunning and he is an overall beautiful dog. I soon found that Ollie (which is what the kids have christened him) loves to follow you around the house and sit at your feet.

My ESRA friends keep telling me that they will find the perfect family for me, and I'm not giving up hope! My previous owners decided that they didn't have time for me anymore, and that's how I ended up here. Actually, that was probably a good thing, because now I can find a family that WILL find time for me, and WILL treat me like a member of the family. I just can't wait until that day comes!

I've been in foster care for a little while, and have made wonderful progress with my surrogate Mom and Dad. I get along wonderfully with all the other pets here, both dogs and cats, and even had quite an experience living with a litter of puppies for a while! I'm a gentle soul, and just love everyone! Even though I've got a few years on me, I am quite an athletic Springer, and just love running and playing outdoors. I can keep up with those young ones. that's for sure!

I'm a healthy boy, but need to be kept on a high quality diet, to prevent food allergies, which some of us Springers can get from time to time. I currently eat lamb and rice kibble and love those little baby carrots for a snack!

I've come such a long way with my training, and have learned to sit for treats, sit for my leash (I just LOVE walks), not to dash out every open door, and to understand what the word NO means. I'm not a Bed Hog, and will be content lying at the foot of your bed, or on a little doggy pillow or rug. I just want to be included with the family.

Would you or your family open up your hearts to a very sweet boy that just wants a home to call his very own? If so, please fill out an on-line adoption application.

I sure hope to meet you soon,
Rascal

SAFFRON
Cleveland, OH

ESRA#: 2007-639OH
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-04-09

Age: 11 months
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 6 lbs
Variety: Mix

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Saffron.

Likes Car Rides and Jogging

ESRA#: 2007-954OH
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-04-24

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 53 lbs
Variety: Bench
Hi!

My name is Samson. I am a beautiful, neutered springer with a lot of unconditional love to give to a family who is willing to share their home with me. I am housetrained, and I really do love those two legged humans that like to throw balls and play with me in the yard.

I already know how to Sit and Shake. My foster mom is working with me on Down. I know I will get it, because I am a very quick learner. Sharing my home with other furry friends isn't a problem. I will, however, need my own fenced yard where I can enjoy chasing the squirrels up the trees. The bigger the yard, the better!

I do have to confess, I am afraid of loud noises, especially toy guns. So if you could make sure that there are no toy guns around, I think we will get along just great!

Finally, if you jog every day then I am the dog for you. I will not only ride great in your car on the way to the park, but when we get there, I will be there for you no matter how far you go.

I do like to pull on the leash, but I know that together, we can develop a system that will work for us. When we get home from the park, I would like nothing more than to cuddle up in your lap on the couch. Could you be the companion for me?

Yours (I hope),
Samson

Hi there!

I'm Schroeder! I have no idea how I ever ended up in a shelter, but I sure am being treated like a king, now that I'm in foster care with ESRA. This place is great!

I'm a very happy, healthy young Springer. I'm up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and recently neutered. I just love everyone! My foster dad says that I'm a really fun guy, and that I get along great with the other male dog in the house. He's pretty much like me, though. We're what you would call non-dominant. All we want to do is play and have fun. I also have a new human friend to play with. He's 6 years old and I like him a lot! I even let him lay his head on me. I guess he thinks I look like a pillow!

I have had some training in my previous life, and know my basic commands. I like to go for walks, but get pretty excited, so a little discipline is all I need to heel and be a good boy. I will look to you for guidance and reassurance.

I would love to find a family to call my very own. If you would like to meet me, please fill out an on-line adoption application.

I am so excited about the possibility of meeting you!

Your buddy,
Schroeder

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male

Hi Everybody!

My name is Shaggy, and I am looking for a new home to call my very own! I had a great family, but something sad happened, and they had to move. Where they were going, they were not allowed to bring me. I really miss them. They loved me a lot. My previous family let me do pretty much whatever I wanted to do, so I really haven't had any formal training, and would just love to learn some new things, if you would be willing to teach me. I am a Springer after all, and everyone knows how smart we can be!

I'm a handsome boy with a pretty coat. I am very healthy and quite energetic, even though I'm not a puppy anymore. I would do very well in a home as an only dog, especially if you had kids or someone to play with me. I don't really get it, but other dogs don't seem to like me very much. Maybe they're jealous because I'm so cute! Also, as with many typical field-bred Springers, I have a high prey drive, and would not be good in a home with cats.

Would you like to learn more about me? If so, please contact my foster Mom, Judy Manley or our Applications Coordinator, Linda Lintz.

Your friend,
Shaggy

ESRA#: 2005-799OH
Status: Deceased
Date: 2008-12-07

Age: 12 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black & White
Weight: 40 lbs
Variety: Bench
Sloan was pulled as a stray from a very high kill shelter. He was matted and loaded with ticks and fleas. He weighed less than 30 lbs. at the time.

Sloan has become best buddies with Bo, his foster brother. He is a sweet dog that loves to wander around the yard. He is hard of hearing, but hears you whistle. He is well behaved, housetrained, doesn't counter surf, beg for food or get on the furniture.

Sloan is still very active and loves to chase a tennis ball, at least a few times. Then he would rather just hang out with his owner. He knows how to give paw and will bark to signal you to go outside.

Sloan is good with cats and children. He needs a loving home to live in during his golden years. Can you share your heart with this beautiful boy?

---

UPDATE - 7/5/06: Sloan recently went camping with me. He behaved like a perfect camper. He got along with the other dogs, sat quietly while the little children petted him, and wouldn't take treats from strangers.

We went for walks around the campground and other campers commented on well he walked on a leash. At bed time he crashed on his blanket and slept the whole night.

He loves rides in the car and will stand the whole trip just looking out the windows.

TARA
Whitehouse, OH

ESRA#: 2008-75OH
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-04-02

Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 30 lbs
Variety: Bench
ESRA is pleased to introduce Tara!

Tara comes to us after spending the first six years of her life as a breeder dog. Her life was an ongoing cycle of pregnancy and nursing, and her home was a cage in a barn. As a reward for her many years of providing for her owner, she was taken to an auction to be disposed of to the highest bidder. But ESRA was ready and waiting, and little Tara is learning what life outside a cage is like.

She is now in foster care, and you can almost see her blooming. She has natural exuberance for life, and is very curious about everything. "Very sweet" and "lots of personality" are used most often when describing her.

Prior to foster care, Tara had to spend some time at a veterinary hospital recovering her health and getting spayed. During that short time Tara learned to Sit, Shake hands, her name, and to Come when called. She learned house training her first day in foster care, and by the end of her second day she had learned "Down", and that counter surfing is not acceptable behavior. Tara is extremely smart, and is almost desperate in her desire to please. Her eyes are always watching you, and she tries very hard to understand what it is that is expected from her.

Tara loves people, and is very social with other dogs. She soaks up any attention like a sponge, and gives love back tenfold. She is wonderfully snuggly, and gives the best puppy kisses. She likes to explore, and would love someone that would take her for walks and car rides, and show her more of the big world from which she was excluded in the past.

Her little body still bares the scars of her former life, but her wonderful personality has allowed her to overcome and forgive. If you are looking for a loyal, loving best friend and companion, then Tara may be the girl for you.

Please contact her foster mom if think you may want to provide Tara with a loving home.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Tara.

TEDDY is about 40lbs., Black with a thin white cross on his chest. His coat is of soft, wiry, wispy hair, with a gorgeous pronounced wave. His coat is very glossy.

Hey there,

I'm Varley, and a sweeter field bred Springer you will never meet!

I still don't know why, but my previous owners took me to a shelter. It certainly was NOT my favorite place. ESRA found out about me and took me into their care. No one really knows a lot about me, but, if I could speak your language, I would tell you that I am the sweetest guy, very laid back, love car rides, and just love having someone to snuggle with.

There was a very nice lady at the animal hospital (when I was there to get neutered) that said I was the sweetest, most lovable little guy! I am not a typical high-energy Springer, but more of a quiet fella. I would do well with just about anyone and get along great with any other dogs I've met. I know a few basic commands, and have come a long way with my potty training. haven't had an accident in a while at my foster home.

Would you like to meet me? I sure would love a family to call my very own!

Also, please fill out an on-line adoption application too!

I sure hope that someone will give me a second chance at a great life! You will never regret it!

Fondly,
Varley

Hi Ya, Kids! My name is Britten and I lost my wonderful home because someone has allergies. I will miss playing with kids, so I am looking for a home with kids that like to play, play fetch with me, and take me for walks, because I walk very nicely on a leash. I also will stay close to you while off of a leash. How good is that?

They say I am very mild mannered, sweet, calm, and great in the house. I do not jump on furniture, but I enjoy snuggling with you in the bed. I know several commands already because I had wonderful owners. I know Sit, Down, Stay, Spin, and I can even play dead. I prefer to be left free in the house. I do not like the crate, but I do ask to be let outside. I like other dogs, and I ride well in the car.

I am a perfect dog, and I would make a great addition to any family. I just love everyone.

CHASE

ESRA#: 2008-43WI
Status: Adopted
Date: 2008-02-27

Age: 7 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black & White
Weight: 45 lbs
Variety: Field
Chase is a seven year old, spayed female. She came to rescue because her family was moving due to a divorce and Chase needs to find another family to love her.

Chase is easy to love, she has so many good qualities; she loves to ride in the car, knows the commands of sit and down, is calm and willing to stay in her kennel when necessary, walks well on a leash without pulling, and soaks up affection like a sponge. She is very beautiful with soulful dark eyes set in her very black face.

She is very fit and healthy and has had ear infections only a couple of times and sits calmly while her ears are cleaned.

Chase is housetrained, but does have submissive urination. The situation is farily easy to manage by avoiding the things that cause her to lose control. We do not yell at her - ever, this scares her, and causes her to leak a little. We avoid very excited homecomings and enter the house in a low key manner. We do not come at her from the front, but from the side of her body, to avoid giving the body language that dogs take as aggression. Some days we have no accidents, some days one or two. Chase has a pair of pants that wrap around her with a pad inside and velcro closure, that way we can assure no accidents, when necessary. She is amazingly tolerant of wearing them. As we have learned to adapt ourselves to her, the accidents have become far less frequent.

We believe Chase would do better in a home with older children or no children. Chase is very tolerant toward other dogs, cats and our parrots. Chase is very smart and wants to please her people. She would really blossom in a home that would help her feel confident and loved.

Please consider adopting Chase. She is a very well behaved, calm, sweet,
