ROOTY
Westminster, CO

|
ESRA #2007-651UT
Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Please meet Rooty! She is the sweetest dog ever, just like rooty-tooty-fruity candy!! Rooty has been an outside dog because her previous owner didn't want her in the house. But who wants to stay outside when all the fun is inside? Besides, Rooty felt like most dogs do, she is just like all the other people in the family and she should be able to live in the house too!!
Now that she is in rescue, Rooty loves being an inside dog and living the good life like she always felt she deserved! She roams free in the house and never has an accident. Rooty has a new haircut, so she is feeling a little bit chilly in the cold weather, but her foster mom has assured her it will soon grow back very nicely!
Rooty is a pleaser and only wants to be with her people! She is very good in her crate and completely housetrained already. She is a very smart dog and learns quickly. She can be a little bit growly when meeting new dogs, but she learns to love all of them in a very short time. Rooty is a true velcro dog who sticks by you always! She will love you forever if you can just give her the love and attention she so richly deserves!

BUSTER
Seattle, WA

|
ESRA #2008-0093WA
Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 70 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Hello, I am Buster Brown, but I can't live in a shoe! I am a bench/show bred Springer and I have been neutered. I need a loving Forever Family. I am truly a lover of attention and my people.
I am about six-years-old, and a little overweight ( ok, maybe more that a little). I love to run in the park, just have not had much time to do so, until my foster dad started taking me to the park each evening when he gets home from work.
I am totally housetrained, and know how to walk on a short and long lead. I am good at heeling. I come when I'm called and I do not run off when not on the leash. I will stay within a few yards of you for the entire walk. I like to explore new scents and watch for birdies.
I sleep on the floor on my own bed next to my foster family's bed, or on the couch during the day. If you will let me, I could be your 70 pound lap dog. I love attention, and I am socialized to other dogs and cats.
His foster family writes: We have Buster up to a couple of miles for a walk. I don't know what else to add. He is just a mellow, go anywhere, get along with everyone, car ride loving dog. He really doesn't have a bad habit. I do think he would do best with someone who is retired or just willing to walk a little slower and take him everywhere.
If you are interested in Buster, please fill out an adoption application and ask about him.

JACK
Spokane, WA

With his sister, Chloe
|
ESRA # 2008-0270ID
Age: 3 months
Gender: Male
Color: Tri-colored
Weight: 12 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Jack is a fighter! He battled the dreaded parvovirus and won! After a week's hospitalization, he has been released to a foster home and he is back to his naughty, fun-loving self!
Jack is a talker, a nuzzler, and tons of fun to play with! He is in a foster home with his littermate, Chloe, and they will not be available for adoption until around May first. However, we'd like to take applications in the meantime.
Jack is in a foster home with children ages 11 and 13, and he loves them. He plays a lot with Chloe, his littermate, and will play with bigger dogs, too, if they are interested. He doesn't care much cats; he's more interested in his toys and getting petted.
Jack loves toys like rope toys and balls. Nylabones are very popular, and his favorite a little stuffed cow. He is a chewer, so it's important that he has appropriate things to chew.
Jack is one of those happy-go-lucky dogs. On the first day he came into rescue, he settled into the foster home as if he'd always lived there. You'd never know that he'd had an eight-hour car ride, a vet visit, a bath, shots, and so many new people around him. He plopped on the dog bed with the girl and snuggled. He picked up a Nylabone and went to town chewing on it. He bonded with Dad immediately. In the second foster home, where he got to be with his littermate, he bounced in ready to play!
We are very glad that Jack pulled through the Parvo, but we are going to be very careful with him. Jack needs to wait until at least April 22 to be neutered, possibly longer. At that time, he will get his Rabies and the rest of his puppy shots. He has an umbilical hernia that will be fixed at the time of his neutering. He can go to a foster-to-adopt home before his neutering is completed, as the ESRA coordinator will be coordinating his vet visits.
One of the side effects of parvo is to have a sensitive tummy. We will be monitoring his health carefully to make sure he is on an appropriate food. Right now he is very happy to eat, and he really needs to, as he lost weight with the illness.
Puppies are a tremendous amount of work. Please be ready for puppy antics as well as puppy kisses. Jack has a lot of training in his future, and needs lots of supervision. He is pretty spunky, is interested in everything, and needs to be gently shown what is OK and what is not.
Jack and his littermates Mack and Chloe, and their mom and dad were all in a shelter in southern Idaho. They had all been abandoned when a renter picked up and left. The landlord took the dogs to the shelter, and the shelter called us. We could tell that Mom was a purebred Springer, but Dad looked more like a Brittany, so he went to Brittany rescue. Although they were all found together, we speculate that the biological father to these pups was really an English Setter, as the pups look so Springer and Setter. We have already found spots for Mom and Chloe, and Dad is safe, too, so now our task remains to find the perfect home for Jack.
Jack's ideal home will have another nice dog to play with, and lots of attention and training. Please make sure you've filled out an adoption application on our website if you are inquiring about Jack.

MERLIN
Seattle, WA

|
ESRA #2008-0324WA
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Merlin is a new dog for ESRA Washington, from the Everett shelter. He is so new that we have limited information right now. He is a cutie who is in good health! He loves other dogs and plays well with them. He needs to be tested further with cats. He has not been tested with children yet.
He needs obedience training. Merlin is young and strong, and pulls on the leash. He'll need more leash work. Everyone who meets him really loves him, and he is a favorite at the vet office. He is housetrained, and knows the basics.
We'll update more on Merlin later, but he's a great young dog in good shape and will make a good family companion.

GINNY (Ginger)
Seattle, WA

|
ESRA #2008-0116ID
Age: 9 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 55 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Ginger just might be the smartest dog ever! When her foster dad's ring tone comes through the mom's cell phone, Ginger does a special dance! She knows to do her Daddy Dance just from the ring! She also hops and barks when everyone is getting treats.
Ginger is a sweet little dog who is truly tender-hearted. She LOVES to be petted, as much as possible, and she is a leaner. She will lean into you and just melt. She loves one on one attention and is equally comfortable with men and women.
Ginger also likes all dogs, cats, and kids. She is housetrained and also loves riding in the car. The passenger seat is her favorite, so she can nuzzle you. If someone can sit in the backseat with her, she will be draped over them, getting love. She has a nice temperament and was good for the groomer and vet.
We haven't seen Ginger with children but had heard she was good with kids. We have thoroughly tested her with other dogs and cats, though. She got upset with the resident dog Sadie once when she abandoned her rib bone and Sadie thought it was fair game.
Ginger had a few benign fatty tumors removed. She also had a dental so her teeth are pearly white, and her breath is good. She does not have ear infections, but she has had them in the past. Her ears have been surgically altered, re-sectioned, to prevent future infections. Her hearing is good. She had a bit of dandruff but now that she is on a good food, her coat is looking nice.
Ginger was originally adopted from a shelter. Two years later, she was relinquished to us. She is a talker. She cries at first in unfamiliar situations. She also talks with happiness and can carry on a conversation with you. Her Woo-Woos are quite entertaining.
When Ginger arrived at her foster home, she plopped down on one of the dog beds and immediately made herself at home. She loves naps and snuggling. She also enjoys rawhide chewy toys.
Ginger would do well with another canine friend or with a little adjustment, as an only dog or with a feline friend - she likes the kitty bed under the end table in the living room when it is not occupied and is the only one who does not inhale the cat food if left down. She takes treats gently, is not food possessive and a real lady, dainty and slow, enjoying every bite.
Ginger has so much love to give. She also enjoys every moment of life and finds joy in everything. She is just a fabulous girl.

OSCAR
Rock Springs, WY

|
ESRA # 2008-0243SD
Age: 2 year
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 35 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Oscar is very small, 35 pounds, and does need to gain a bit of weight, maybe 5 pounds. He is built like a very small field bred. His tail is docked and his dew claws are removed. Oscar is current on all vaccinations and is heart worm negative.
Oscar eats adult Iams, for large breeds, because the big chunks makes him eat slower. Oscar is a slow eater and a good eater. Since he needs to gain weight, he eats twice per day, at about 6am and 6pm, and receives three cups per feeding.
He seems to be housetrained, and goes to the door when he wants to go out. He loves the outdoors and especially loves snow. We have crate trained him, and he is a very good boy. He is in the crate when we are gone and at night. He just walks in and lays down. No fuss, no noise. We are working on walking on a leash a bit better because Oscar does pull. He rides in the car like a pro, and really enjoys riding in the back of my Subaru wagon. We do not use a crate for car rides. He is also very good with the vet and enjoys people, however he is a bit cautious.
Oscar is learning his name, and is starting to come when we call. He lives in his own world, and often has more important things to do than listen to us. He hasn't bonded with us as quickly or deeply as other Springers. He is guarded with his love, and will need time to build trust with his new family.
Oscar does jump up occasionally, but it is with such a gentle nature it isn't so bad. We are working on this, and he does like to get on the counters occasionally to see what yummy smells are up there. However, he is not a beggar at meal time, takes treats very gently, and has never attempted to steal food from our plates.
When he first arrived in our house, he was leery of eating around the other dogs but now he doesn't even notice. He shares toys and people well. He is not super jealous. I don't know how Oscar would be with cats, and he DOES want to eat the ferrets.
Oscar is a very sweet and gentle dog that will do best in a relaxed quiet home. He enjoys dog companions, and likes to be pet and talked-to softly. It will take him time to trust and really show his love. He is just careful with his feelings.
I would not recommend children under "older teens" because he is a bit concerned and cautious. I would not call him timid, just watchful. He is great with other dogs, large and small. He loves to play all the time. Sometimes he is alpha, and sometimes omega. He is really in the middle of the pack of five at my house. His activity level is moderate. He is very quiet in the house, but loves to play zoomies outside, and be chased and chase the other dogs. He likes to play tug-o-war, and enjoys chewing on nylabones. He is reserved, calm, and friendly. Oscar is a real cutey, and is just very sweet.
I would recommend Oscar to an empty-nester or even an active older person. He truly is a doll of a dog.

MAGGIE LYNN
Dallas, TX

|
ESRA #2007-858TX
Age: 3-5 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Beautiful Maggie Lynn needs a home with a loving family and possibly other pets for company. She is housetrained with perfect manners, and adores humans of all ages.
Maggie does not do well left to her own devices in the yard-she is a virtual Houdini with fences of all types. If there's even a tiny hole, she'll find it and go happily exploring without a care in the world! A fence in good repair and a watchful eye will keep her contained during outside activities.
Maggie would love a home with her people around most of the day. She does not have separation anxiety, but is happiest with human companions around.
Do you have room in your heart and home for this beautiful girl?

DASH
Dallas, TX

|
ESRA #2008-0329OK
Age: 9-11 months
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 29 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Meet our dashing new little boy! Dash has been tossed around his entire young life, and recently found himself in an Oklahoma shelter. We suspect he's been in one unstable environment after another, with minimal human interaction. The world is a whole new and exciting place to him! But, he's quickly responding to all the attention we've been showering him with; and his lovingly sweet and gentle personality is starting to emerge. We're getting lots and lots hugs and kisses. His entire body wiggles at the sight of other doggies. He's growing accustomed to car rides, and sits quietly and nicely in the front seat.
Dash has an amusing habit of chasing leaves and twigs blowing in the wind! This has probably been, thus far, his only form of entertainment. With a family, he will learn that there are much more fun things to do in the yard, like chasing birds and squirrels, and playing ball and chase with a family, and cuddling up to watch television.
Dash is just a pup, so he will need to be confined when left alone, will need lots of exercise, and a family committed to his behavior training, of course. He is neutered, current on all shots, and ready for a comfy and warm bed to rest his head each night.
Please consider giving this gorgeous young Springer the opportunity to be treated like the little prince he is.

TEDDI BEAR
Modesto, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0239CA
Age: 1 year
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 43 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
I'm Teddi Bear, or Teddi for short, and as my name suggests am a real cuddler. My foster Mom says that my hair is soft and silky, and I cuddle nicely in bed. She lets me sleep with her and Max, the resident dog. I'm learning new things here in my foster home like Sit, Shake, and can catch treats in the air. I am good at the groomer, housetrained, whatever that means, and crate trained. I will Come when called, and I walk well on a leash. I'm fine with cats, but have had limited exposure to them, and I get along well with other dogs. I LOVE car rides. Now I need a family of my own.
According to Teddi's foster Mom, she is a delight to have around, and gets along great with other dogs. She loves people and attention. She is on the smaller side, but could lose a few pounds. She is curious and smart. Teddi chases balls, but hasn't learned to bring them back yet. She settles down nicely, and sleeps through the night.
To find out more about Teddi, please have a preliminarily approved application on file and then contact her case manager.

PADDINGTON
Seattle, WA

|
ESRA #2008-0280WA
Age: 2 year
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Paddington was found as a stray in the Puyallup, WA area. The Puyallup shelter called us, because they were over capacity. Paddy was unhappy in his kennel and was barking a lot. An ESRA volunteer picked him up, and briefly took him to her house. She took him to the vet to get all his shots, ear infection cleared up, and neutered. Then he went to foster care.
Paddy had the ancient and sad eyes of a fourteen-year-old dog who has seen it all, but he was really only a pup. The vet said he was no older than two, and the groomer said not over a year. He has the energy of a younger dog and hasn't had a lot of training, but he wants to please.
He has been getting unlimited belly rubs in his foster home. He loves to cuddle and sleep on the bed. He plays with the other Springers in the house very well. He is housetrained and is learning other manners. We are so glad the shelter called us about him, because he deserves a chance!
Paddington got kennel cough which turned into pneumonia, so he had a rough couple of weeks. A lot of our rescue dogs get kennel cough. Kennel cough usually runs its course and clears up within a couple of weeks. Sometimes we can make the dogs feel better with the help of antibiotics and cough syrup. But when it goes tinto pneumonia, it is serious.
At one point, Paddy had a fever of 105 degrees and was not eating or drinking. IV fluids and antibiotics, and breathing treatments, made a difference for Paddy. He also had a procedure where they drained a lot of the fluid out of his lungs under anesthesia. Paddy was in the hospital for several days. Now he has completely rehabilitated and is a healthy, energetic dog! What a fighter!!
We placed Paddington in a home briefly, but we found that he did not do well with the tiny terrier in the household. Paddy was used to playing with bigger dogs and was way too rough with the small dog. Paddy will need a household with dogs his own size from now on.
At this point, we have not tested him with children, or with cats. We'll update soon with more information.

OBIE
Boise, ID

|
ESRA # 2008-0323ID
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Hello---This is Obie here in Idaho. I came into ESRA on the 8th of April. I was in the shelter. Wow, I didn't know that there was a group out there that could help me. Thank goodness my foster mom got me out ot that cage. It was cold and we had to lay on the cold cement. I now get to sleep on the bed with the other Springers and it feels so good. Ok, now to the point. I am two to three years old but act like I am only one. My foster mom says I have beautiful markings. They are black and white and spotted. My face is one that you just can't resist.
I can shake hands, lay down, and HIGH FIVE. I love to run around in the yard and play with the other dogs. I am a little scared of men at first. My foster dad is great but he really scared me when I first met him. I went and hid behind my foster mom. But my foster dad was not pushy and he let me get to know him at my own time and now I love to lay on his lap and get special hugs. But the one thing I am really scared of is the broom. You pick it up and I am gone. But I know I can over come it.
This is what I would like in a Forever Home: I want some one that is going to love and care for me in the good times and the bad times. I am not perfect and I do make mistakes. I have had a few accidents in the house, but I am working on it. I want to be able to be an indoor and outdoor pet, but please don't leave me out at night. I get along with children, cats and other dogs. I do want another dog as I love to play and the resident dogs and I play great and I love all of them. When you are at work I want someone to play with and I am not a bad boy when left in the house. I want to be able to go for walks and hikes if I can. I am not a pet that can be just left in the back yard and forgotten. I am highly active and I know that my Forever Home will not let me down.
I have not had a good life and now I know that with the help of ESRA I am on my way to a super new life. My other family took me out and dropped me off in the country and never came back. A man found me and my sister and took us to the dog pound. I was lonely and they did however take care of us. But it is nothing like having a Forever Home. A family came and adopted my sister, but they passed me over. I was devastated and lonely as I was left there and no one wanted me. WRONG--I now am in foster care waiting for you to come and get me.
I am groomed and have had all my shots and in great health. I had to have a short cut as I was matted and a mess. I am a fieldie and I have a long tail, and my ears are long. I did however have to have my ears trimmed as there were weeds and garbage in them. I did have cheet grass in my ear and now it is all better.
So, folks, what do you think? Can you find me a place in your heart, family, and home for a special boy like me? You won't be sorry you adopted me. I can give you endless love!

PARKER
Spokane, WA

Lotsa' hands on Parker when he's acting as a therapy dog.

The seniors love him, and can't keep their hands off him!
|
ESRA #2007-939WA
Age: 10 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 36 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
I've never had the opportunity to ask for anything until now. I mean, there have been things that I've needed, mostly medical wise, like that sore I had on my ear...only they ended up taking off my whole ear!! Oh, and let's not forget that horrible, itchy skin infection I had with scabs all over. I guess I smelled because every human I met ended up plugging their noses or rolling down a window when we went on car rides. When my family gave me up to rescue, the vet was pretty shocked and disappointed at what I looked and smelled like.
Yeah, I guess I've had it pretty rough, but I'm looking to move on. I would never hold a grudge and I always see the bright side. You see, I'm homeless... not in the sense that at the moment I don't have a warm place to sleep and food every day, because I do. What I want is a home to call my own. This whole foster dog scene is cool. There's always a dog to play with and geeze that cat can carry on a conversation better than anyone I've ever met. Those mini-humans are great! They always tell me how cute I am and give me little treats....but there's something missing.
I want a home I can call my own, a mom or a dad who will take me for what I am, one-eared and all, and love me anyways. I have no bad habits and I don't understand how I've ended up in this situation. I don't want to sound ungrateful for what all these rescue people have done for me. I'm perfectly healthy now and I can't give enough kisses as a thanks. I love everything and everyone; my foster mom says I'm the epitome of my breed. So if I could get me a Forever Home soon, I would be the happiest little thing ever.
Wishing for the best with both paws crossed,
Love, Parker
Foster Mom's Note:
Words cannot do this dog enough justice. Parker has been through a lot in his little life. About 6 years ago, at age 4, Parker found himself in a shelter for unknown reasons. He was adopted by a lady with an autistic son. Parker was to be used as some sort of therapy dog for him, but the lady soon found herself so overwhelmed with the constant care of her son, that Parker and his needs soon became forgotten. We were happy that the family signed him over to a local rescue, who contacted us.
Parker had major ear infections and a bacterial infection of his skin that made him smell horrible...but that was the very least of his issues. Parker had an open, oozing tumor on his ear flap that had been there for years. Poor Parker scratched and cried and rubbed his head on everything the day we got him. We soon had it removed only to find that the surgery site wasn't healing right. Around this time his biopsy came back....it was a skin cancer, but luckily the x-rays didn't show signs of it spreading anywhere else. The vet aspirated fluid from his lymph nodes and did blood work that also showed no sign of cancer. The vet took off his ear to be on the safe side and to help the healing. His ear will feel better than it has in years. But the x rays also showed that Parker had been shot with a pellet gun at least 7 times. One chest x-ray showed several pellets and you can feel more. It's hard to imagine anyone shooting happy little Parker.
Parker has been a little ESRA miracle with his skin and ears clearing up so well. His hearing, which seemed to be gone at first, has totally come back. We have taken care of anything he needed, healthwise. Parker is now as healthy as ever and I couldn't be happier to foster him. He has the most fantastic personality ever. When you think Springer, you think Parker. He hasn't met a stranger, dog, cat, or kid that he hasn't fallen instantly in love with. Not all dogs do well in a day care situation and Parker absolutely loves the kids. Don't let his age fool you; he has the energy of a 5 year old with enough love to give for 10 life times. He loves going on walks and can walk faster than the younger dogs. He is so happy-go-lucky and confident in any situation. This special boy deserves a home where he is someone's everything....could it be with you?

ESRA # 2008-0086NM - Snowden-Hale - Adopted!
ESRA # 2008-0089NM - Victoria - Adopted!
ESRA # 2008-0087NM - Matilda - Adopted!
Age: 6 weeks
Gender: 1 Male, 3 Females
Color: Black/White
Weight: Puppy-weight
Variety: Mixed-bred, field
Sydney's puppies were born in our care and are definitely fat and happy. We believe they are all Springer mixes and have no good guess about daddy. The pup's individual personalities are just starting to emerge. Snowden is affectionate, exuberant and curious. He is not as assertive as his sisters. He loves human attention and cuddly toys. Adelaide is playful and comic. She's the most independent and full of fire. Victoria is rambunctious and boisterous, she's the largest pup (by a full pound) and the leader of the pack. She's enthralled with the rope pull toy and quite the entertainer. Matilda is the typical middle born. Balanced, amused by her brother's and sisters' antics, she's quick to imitate her siblings as they discover new frontiers.
The puppies will be ready for adoption on March 25 when they turn 8 weeks old. We hope to have forever homes selected for each well before then and Sydney will be available for adoption around March 15.
So don't delay in filling out an application if you are interested in adopting one of Sydney's puppies. If it looks like you'd be the best match for one of them, you must be willing travel to Albuquerque.

BELLE & DUKE
Dallas, TX

|
ESRA # 2006-245TX - Belle
ESRA # 2007-089TX - Duke
Age: Both 4 years
Gender: Female/Male
Color: Black/White & Liver/White
Weight: 59 & 73 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show & Field-bred
Meet Belle and Duke, two of the loveliest dogs you could ever meet. They were adopted from ESRA to a wonderful home, but the adopter's circumstances have changed so sadly we are having to re-home them.
Belle is a stunning black/white tri-colored Springer who came into the program after her owner abandoned her and left her tethered to a fence post with no food or water. No one knows for exactly how long she was left. She was then taken to the shelter where a kind-hearted family whisked her away to save her life. They could not keep her, but could not leave this beautiful young girl there to die. Then they contacted ESRA.
Duke is one of the absolute nicest and cutest boys ever placed on this earth. He was picked up as a stray and landed in a shelter outside of Houston. He had horrible skin, ear and eye infections, and a severe case of heartworm. Duke endured long and difficult heartworm treatment, and many months were spent clearing up his skin infections.
Yet, look at these gorgeous, happy and healthy Springers now! Each of them needs to trim down a bit, so their new family needs to commit to lots of play time in the yard, and good long walks each day. Belle and Duke have the most exceptional temperaments. They are sweet, gentle, and very affectionate! They are housetrained, and have excellent manners when left alone while you're away. However, they are accustomed to having someone around much of the day, so we would love to place them in a similar situation. Belle and Duke are typical Springers. They follow you room-to-room. They think that all knocks on the door are their guests.
We would love to adopt Belle and Duke out together. They are very close, and are a match made in heaven. As you can see in the picture, Duke will rest his head on Belle's back. You never see one without the other, and they are always walking in tandem. Uprooting them will be difficult, but hopefully the transition will be made easier by having each other. We look forward to hearing from you.

Color: Liver/White
Weight: 60 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Hello Everyone! My name is Berrin but you can call me Bear (all my friends do). Somehow I ended up in a shelter where a very nice lady rescued me. I am a typical Springer who enjoys being with people of all ages and dearly love being cuddled by children. Even though I am a large Springer, I am very gentle with all I meet and get along great with the resident dogs here in my foster home. I love to chase tennis balls, but never bring them back to be thrown again - guess I just like stretching my legs. I also enjoy going for walks and try very hard not to pull on the leash. Sometimes I just get so excited by all the wonderful smells, though, that I just can't help myself. A gentle reminder is all I need to get me back on track. I have great manners and know how to Sit, Shake, Lie Down and Stay. I never, ever get into things that I shouldn't.
Foster Mom: Berrin has probably been one of the easiest dogs that I have fostered. As he mentioned above, he does not get into things he shouldn't. In fact, I don't think he has any bad habits. He is a calm, dignified middle-aged Springer with impeccable manners - both in the house and outside. Berrin is very active and loves to go for walks, chase tennis balls and will faithfully follow you around the yard. Berrin loves to play the water game and, on hot days, will chase the water tirelessly.
Berrin is a gentle soul with a true Springer heart that wants to please more than anything. Like most Springers, he needs a large yard to play in and would dearly love to have someone home with him most of the time. Berrin gets along very well with the resident dogs but does not participate in their rough and tumble play. He would do well with a calm canine companion but would also do great as the only dog. Cats are untested but I suspect there would not be a problem as he does not chase any of the wildlife in the yard. He absolutely loves children of all ages and will sit or lay for long periods of time while they pet and cuddle him.
Berrin is up to date on all his shots, is microchipped, has been neutered, and has tested negative for heartworm. He is a healthy, happy, wonderful boy, looking for a fun, loving Forever Family to belong to. Do you have time to devote to Berrin and a place in your heart and family for him? If so, please have an approved application on file and be prepared to fall in love.

Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 32 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Here I am just waiting for someone who has lots of love and patience to take me home, teach me how to be a good dog, and love me forever.
I came from a shelter, and my foster mom thinks that I have been out on my own for quite a while, as I am so skinny. But she is feeding me lots of good food, and says that I am eating every thing in sight, so I am sure that I will gain weight really fast.
I am in a foster home with three other dogs right now, and I am getting along with everyone. I will go get the ball if you throw it and love to play tug of war. I have lots of things to learn about this big world , won't you teach me?

ROSIE
Coeur d'Alene, ID

|
ESRA # 2008-0307WA
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Rosie is a timid and affectionate Springer, who is very gentle. She loves to give kisses. If you don't like getting licked on the face, watch out, because she loves to lick a person's chin, once she knows them. She has the softest mouth when taking treats. When she offers her paw to shake, she barely touches you but delicately places her paw on your hand.
She just came into foster care on April 5, so we are finding more about her. She definitely likes other dogs, and has not reacted much to the cat. She was introduced to a potbellied big and donkey, and she was really startled by them. We'll be finding out if she likes children soon, when the kids in the family get back from a trip.
Rosie was relinquished at the Spokane County shelter, for not getting along with the new toddler that was recently adopted. The former owner told the shelter that Rosie had had bird hunting training and provided a paper saying so. She also said that Rosie had been an outside dog, loved the Airedale Terrier she lived with, and was crate-trained. They said she did well with older children but not the little ones. We are still finding out if this is an accurate picture. Personally, I doubt that a dog this skittish is comfortable around guns, even if she is birdy, but she may be successful.
She knows a lot of commands and wants to please. We are seeing how she does inside the house. So far, only one accident and no problems. She has stayed off the furniture. She hasn't chewed anything or gotten into anything. Pretty good for a dog who's been living outside. She is great in the car.
She takes awhile to warm up, if she does not know you. She is pretty skittish. It is best if you move slow, especially with your hands. She is much more comfortable with women than men. Once she knows you, she is happy to climb in your lap. I have to wonder if when she growled at the new toddler if she was protecting herself, or if she was startled, because she needs a proper introduction.
Rosie has been to the vet and we are happy to report that she is in good health-- spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, dewormed, and on Revolution preventative. She was groomed for the first time, and did well for it, even though she was scared.
This gentle, gorgeous girl just needs some love and reassurance. She cried a lot when left at the shelter and seems to wonder what is going on. She is so kind and gentle, is on her best behavior, and will be a fantastic part of a good family.

LUNA
Orange, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0242CA
Age: 16 months
Gender: Female
Color: Tri-colored
Weight: 35 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Let me introduce myself, I'm Luna and I'm looking for a new family. My owner went off to the war and her family couldn't keep me.
I'm a beautiful young lady with lots of puppy energy, who just loves to play and play some more. Did I say that I like to play? In my foster home I play with the resident dogs, toys and balls, or just by myself. It would be great if there were another young dog for me to play with in my new home. I've had basic training, and enjoy learning new things, and my foster parents say I'm really smart and very inquisitive.
A note from my foster parents:
Luna is a sweet, happy, affectionate young gir,l who is typical for her age, loving to run and play. She enjoys the company of both humans and dogs alike. She has adjusted well here, and fits right into the routine. She has a wonderful personality, is affectionate, curious, energetic, and entertaining. She does not counter surf, and knows the Sit and Shake commands.
Luna is doing well on her leash training, with a gentle leader, but gets a little nervous around busy streets with cars. She will bark at the passing cars. We have observed her watching dogs on the television, and when they disappear she runs to look behind it to see where they went.
Luna likes car rides, is housetrained, spayed, micro-chipped, and current on shots. She is good with other dogs and children, but cats are unknown.
Luna is looking for an active family, with another young dog and maybe children to play with.
If you think you are the family for Luna, please have a preliminarily approved application on file and then contact her case manager.

ROXIE
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA # 2008-0187WA
Age: 5 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 58 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Roxie is a queen, dignified, wise, and beautiful. She is also a lover. She is a little reserved when first getting to know you, but after she knows you, she can't show enough affection.
Roxie just got in foster care, so we'll be updating more soon. She was relinquished along with Ruby, another female. The shelter assumed they were sisters, and the owner was intoxicated and didn't tell them much. After spending time with them, we think Ruby is Roxie's daughter. We also think that instead of them both being 5, maybe Roxie is 7 and Ruby is 3. Roxie doesn't have tartar on her teeth, but she seems older because she has half of Ruby's energy. She doesn't feel well, though, so that might be the reason that she loves her naps so much right now.
Roxie loved riding in the car on the way to the foster home. She spent most of it enjoying the backseat with her head on my lap. She is no problem in the car at all. She is pretty mellow.
She is good with other dogs and cats, and she doesn't care a thing about other animals, such as horses or donkeys. Roxie would not do well with young children, though. She has a bossy way about her and barks whenever someone is playing too rough or making too much noise. I think she would do wonderfully with older children, or teens, but she would prefer a quieter environment. I think she would do well with a dog at least 3 years old, but no puppies.
She is very calm in the house and can always find a quiet spot to lie down or a way to curl up at your feet. She appears to be housetrained as there have been no accidents. She also knows sit and comes when called, but doens't know a lot of other commands. She is decent off-leash but would do better in a fenced yard.
She has ear infections that are absolutely awful. It's a crime to let ears get to this condition. She is getting the medical care she needs now, and they will get better soon. She still has to be spayed and she is currently in season. Her collar was on way too tight and she coughed a tiny bit, so the vet is being extra careful and ruling out kennel cough before proceeding with any surgery. She and Ruby licked each other's wounds (ears and Ruby's broken toenail) and they cuddle and comfort each other. It was so sad; they couldn't take each other to the vet, but they did the best they could to help each other.
Like Ruby, Roxie really likes those tummy rubs. Unlike Ruby, she does not plop on the ground with a loud splat. She gently rolls over for you. She also loves to be petted, especially if you are gentle around her ears.
Roxie is the epitome of a sweet, bench-bred, mellow female who loves to be with people. She will make a great companion.
Update 3-29-08: Roxie has been dealing with an awful case of kennel cough. Her spay surgery has been re-scheduled three times, as she hasn't stopped coughing after two rounds of antibiotics and cough syrup.
However, Roxie does not let her kennel cough get her down and she is always ready to play ball or get her tummy rubbed. We have a home lined up for Roxie but are just waiting for her to be healthy enough to get spayed.

A.J.
Denver, CO

|
ESRA #2007-958UT
Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 37 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Hello All -
I'm A.J. and am a very active six-year-old, who loves to run. I do quite well off-leash and love to explore the field. I am quick and graceful but I am always willing to stop for a tummy rub. I am a petite girl, and have found a good way to get by my big foster brothers is to walk underneath them!! I want nothing more than to please the humans in my life.
I love to play with my foster brothers and I love to snuggle!! I am doing well leash-training and I always aim to please my family. I am a little too interested in cats, so need to find a home with no felines.
I have had a bit of a rough time lately - I have had some little bumps that had to be removed. My foster mom tells me this sometimes happens when girl dogs don't get spayed when they are really young. All the bumps have been completely removed, and I am healthy, but my new family needs to check my tummy for a few more months to make sure that no more bumps show up.
My foster mom says: AJ is a very sweet, loving girl who is looking for a home that can provide her with daily exercise and lots of love. She is very much a Velcro dog and loves to hang out with her family. She would do well with other dogs or as an only dog. She loves human contact, and is hoping she can find a family that will provide the love and care that she needs and deserves. If you think you are the right family for AJ, please let us know!

BEAU
Houston, TX

|
ESRA#: 2007-970TX
Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 53 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
How to describe this wonderful Springer? Tall, dark and handsome is a good start! But Beau's personality is his greatest feature! Beau loves everyone, and despite his grand size, he would like nothing better than to be your snuggle-buddy. He can't get enough hugs and pats and would probably prefer to be the only dog! Beau is a big boy - tall, but well proportioned, and trim. He is currently recovering from sarcoptic mange that has robbed him (temporarily) of his beautiful fur coat. It's growing back in quickly, and he should soon be sporting the long, flowing coat to match his classic Springer markings. Beau is crate trained and very quiet in the house...unless he needs to alert you to strangers approaching - then you'll hear his deep chested bark to let you know someone's coming. Beau makes friends easily, and is looking for his very own best friend! Would that be you?

BERNIE
Olympia, WA

|
ESRA #2008-0011WA
Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Bernie has been in foster care for two months now, and he's wondering why no one has asked about him. After all, he's happy, affectionate, housetrained, knows the doggie door, and loves other dogs. He would be a terrific companion!
Bernie is a good-looking, outgoing guy looking for a great home with a big yard to play in. He is currently being fostered with another Springer and he just loves her. They play all the time and run around the yard constantly.
Bernie is very outgoing and robust. He loves attention, and will come to you all the time and begs for loves. He is protective of his back yard, not mean, he just barks when a stranger comes into the yard. As soon as you talk to him, he runs up for his loves. He is very friendly with everyone!!
Bernie has had the ESRA makeover, including a dental, neuter, all shots, dewormed, heartworm preventative. He was shaved down and his coat is growing back nicely.
Bernie used to like to herd livestock and he likes being outside. He has been exposed to chickens and other birds and knew not to bother them. He is also comfortable inside and is housetrained and crate-trained. Bernie has never been around children. He has been around a dog-savvy cat.
Bernie came to us with eight other dogs, all from one home, and he is the only one of the nine that has not been adopted. Bernie wonders if it is because he is older, but I told him that he has plenty of energy and would pass for a much younger dog. He is in his prime. If you have a fenced yard, another dog, and a heart for a dog like Bernie, please ask about him.

PADRE
Stanton, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0290CA
Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Padre is a three-year-old, fun loving and playful, field-bred Springer. In fact, he is a gem of a fieldie! He has those marvelous field-bred Springer characteristics that we know and love. If you are an experienced Springer owner, and tend to gravitate toward fieldies, boy do we have the dog for you! ESRA would like to see Padre in a home that will give him the exercise and attention that he deserves. He loves to play fetch. He is smart and wants to please. He responds well to commands but, unfortunately, did not get to go to beginner obedience or intermediate training classes as a puppy, and we recommend that he attend those. We ask that Padre have a yard to play in, as he loves to romp and play in the yard. For the house, he loves a nice big cushy doggie bed, to be close with you and cuddle time.
Padre is a happy boy, who loves attention, and gets along great with everybody. He is extremely affectionate, he gets an A+ in temperament, and he is terrific with young children.
Padre is a healthy and sturdy field-bred Springer, with no history of ear infections, despite the fact he has spent a tremendous time in the former family's pool. He has been with the same family since he was a puppy and, unfortunately, their lifestyle was not compatable with a field-bred Springer. Padre has a good background.
Padre is housetrained, settles down nicely when he needs to, is great with other dogs, he may be a little submissive even with other dogs, and he rides well in the car.
Padre is a gem of a Springer.

TROOPER
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA # 2008-pendingWA
Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 60 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Trooper is an energetic young boy in search of a playmate! The family who owns him is relinquishing him to ESRA because they don't have time for an active young dog. They have three children, including a little one, and a busy lifestyle. They hope that Trooper can get a life with a lot more exercise, play, time spent with him, and love.
Trooper is very affectionate and loves everyone he meets. I walked up to the pickup he was in and said hello, and he just couldn't get enough affection. He is trusting of everyone and excited to meet them. He wags with his entire body! He melts into you when you are petting him and just soaks up the love. He likes meeting other dogs and does well with the cat in the household. He is too much for the children, as he jumps up sometimes, and would knock the toddler over. He would do great with older children, who could play with him.
Trooper is an outdoor dog in this situation but we are looking forward to him becoming an indoor dog, part of the family. He does stay in the garage at night and does not have any accidents, so I think he will catch on to house manners soon.
Car rides are a favorite, and Trooper accompanies Dad on many errands. He really does well for a dog that just turned 1 year old a few days ago. He listens well and comes when called, even if there is something exciting going on. He knows sit and stay, and tries to go down but is only down a second and then pulls himself right up to sit again.
He is in good health and is going to be neutered immediately. He will be ready to be adopted by about 3-15 or so. He is a handsome guy with a bench-bred build, but the cute freckles of a fieldie.
This darling boy is a sweetheart and will be a fantastic companion in a home with more exercise and time spent with him. He needs to bound across the yard, chase after a canine buddy, and tire himself out. After some fun, he will be ready to curl up at your feet.

LISA
Silverdale, WA

|
ESRA # 2007-0784WA
Age: 4 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
In October 2007, Lisa was at the Burlington, Washington Shelter with her son, Hobbes (you may remember him on the website). Lisa found a wonderful home with one of our ESRA applicants. Tragically, the family has had some awful circumstances and cannot keep Lisa. It was through no fault of their own, and they are terribly sad that they have to part with her.
Lisa had not enjoyed a great life before getting adopted in October. She had been bred a lot, and the people who turned them to the shelter in screamed obscenities at the dogs while relinquishing him. She spent a month in the shelter before she was adopted, and was not in good shape when she was finally out.
During the five months she spent in her adoptive home, she blossomed. She was spayed and all her preventatives taken care of, and enjoyed great health. She enjoyed running around in the fenced yard with their little Doxie, and snuggling on furniture. She was extremely affectionate and enjoyed being the Queen of the house.
Lisa is doing very well in her foster home, and they enjoy having her. She really attached herself to both foster parents since she was grieving her family. Her foster mom took her to work with her, and she was well behaved and calm, but cried whenever the foster mom left the office. Hopefully now she has settled in more, but you can't blame her for feeling lonely and scared. Her foster mom is going to try again in a few days.
She does do well when left inside alone with another dog. She is housetrained and knows how to sit, but hasn't had a lot of other commands mastered. She loves to ride in the car. She did well at the groomer, and did not mind being handled. She is very sweet and loyal.
Lisa needs to be adopted with another dog, as she really enjoys their company and loves to play. She would do better in a home without cats, but could learn to be OK.
She probably would not hurt them but loves to chase them. We've held our cats while she sniffed them. She does not try to bite them at all.
Lisa was very sad when she left her home and was on a hunger strike. She is still not eating very well, but is eating some canned food. I can tell she's lost some weight. A few pounds would be ok since she was slightly overweight. She has eaten chicken and likes the dog biscuits. She has an appointment with my vet coming up.
She loves every woman she meets, but not all men. Certain men she absolutely loves, like her adoptive dad and her foster dad. Strange men make her bark and cower. She also barks when people come to the house. She is a good watch dog but does not bark excessively.
She will run away if off leash. She seems to think it's a game and runs and does not return when called. In a fenced yard, she does fine.
Lisa is extremely affectionate and likes to cuddle all the time. She is a very quiet, calm dog who doesn't get excited about anything except a cat running by. She would be a great companion for someone who wants a Springer with lower energy and doesn't mind the Springer being on the couch with them. I think that will be a never-ending battle if someone is determined to keep her off the couch.
To sum it up, the right home for Lisa will have: a) a fenced yard; b) another dog in the household; c) laid-back people who enjoy snuggling.

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
My name is Curly, and I am very friendly, and love to play. So far, I have gotten along well with all the dogs I have met since I have been in foster care. I love people, both men and women, and like my Foster Dad's daughter and her friends who are about ten years old.
I am told that I walk very well on a leash, especially for a Springer. I come when I am called. I am a very good boy around the house. I don't chew, dig, or counter surf. I am housetrained, and love to ride in cars. I also have been crate trained.
Since I am young, my energy level is pretty high, and my tail never stops wagging. When I roll on my back, to get my chest rubbed, my back leg goes thump, thump, thump! I am really looking forward to finding my Forever Home.

My name is Miss Daisy and I am a very friendly girl who loves everybody I meet; men, women, children, other dogs, and even cats. I have a long tail and just love to wag it.
I am housetrained, come when I am called and love to ride in cars. I am a high energy girl who loves to run, but I behave myself around the house. I am very sweet, affectionate and outgoing
I know all the basics commands, No, Sit, Down.I even bring my empty water dish to my Foster Mom for refilling and bring her a leash to remind her to take me for walks. Did I tell you I love walks? OK, I do pull a bit on the leash, but since I am so smart, if someone is willing to take me to a training class, I can probably learn to walk with a little less enthusiasm.
I am looking forward to finding my own Forever Family.

Color: Liver/White

Variety: Field-Bred
Peter is a very lively two year old who loves to play with balls and squeaky toys. He enjoys having other dogs to play with, but occasionally will be a little bossy. He is a bouncy outgoing boy who responds well to both men and women. Peter is well behaved around the house, is housetrained, crate trained and has learned to use a doggie door.
Peter stays with you when walking off leash and comes when called, but he could use a bit of work with on leash skills. We do not have any history on Peter with either children or cats, but he completely ignored the cats at the vet's office even when they approached him.
Peter is very loving and lives to please you. He wiggles all over every time he sees you. He is a quick learner and always tries to do his best.

JENNY
Houston, TX

|
ESRA # 2007-1022TX
Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 38 lbs
Variety: Field-bred
Please meet our sweet girl, Jenny! Jenny was saved from an area shelter with her friend, Reno, thanks to ESRA. Jenny is very shy around people, and will probably need to have a doggie friend to feel more comfortable in her new home and show her the ropes. She is learning to be housetrained and is very good in her crate. Jenny has had a leg injury in the past so she has a slight limp, but gets around just fine. If you have lots of love in your heart to give sweet Jenny, I'm certain she will return that love and be your faithful, forever companion.
Update 13 JAN 08: In just a short time, Jenny is really making progress! She's coming out of her shell, thanks to the loving care of her foster family. Jenny loves her ESS foster brother, and they play great together! She also loves to go for walks, and she even went camping recently. What fun! Jenny comes when called, and is learning to trust human hands again. She enjoys being cuddled and loved on! She will be starting heartworm treatment soon, so please check back on Jenny's progress!

SAMMY
Houston, TX

|
ESRA #2007-831TX
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 60 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Please meet our new boy, Sammy! Sammy somehow landed in a shelter, and thanks to ESRA's help, he is now feeling much better! Sammy's eyes were so gunky you couldn't tell if they were brown, and his ears were filthy with knots the size of lemons behind them. His coat was extremely matted, so he had to be shaved down revealing wounds he received probably from another dog at the shelter. I'm sure his coat will be full and lush when it grows back in!
Sammy is very sweet and loving! He has all the qualities we love to see in a Springer! Please check back for an update on this handsome boy!

Lookey, Lookey what we have here!
Meet gorgeous mommy, Maribel and her 3 pups Pierce, Emerson, and Blake.
Maribel and her pups were dropped off at a local shelter. A shelter worker and a friend to Springer Rescue pulled them for us as soon as they came in and we brought them into the program.
Mom and pups are doing great in an experienced and loving foster home where they are thriving and receiving perfect care.
The puppies are only 11 days old, so the only thing that we know about them right now is that they are REALLY, REALLY ADORABLE. Their eyes are not open yet and they are squirmy little things. We will keep you updated on their progress so keep watching the website.
Now Maribel, we know about. She is a lovely dog with the sweetest temperament. She is a great mother, but once the puppies are gone, she will be ready to start her own life. We want to find her a home of her own where she can live a happy life.
Please click HERE and fill out an application for Maribel or one of the puppies. Once it is filled out we will contact you to see if we have a match.
Maribel and her little puppies thank you for considering them as a potential family member.

PATCHES
Ouray, CO

|
ESRA # 2008-0079CO
Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 63 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Patches is a gentle and friendly boy, who loves to ride in the car. He also enjoys belly rubs and having his ears scratched. Patches gets on well with other dogs, and plays with them as much as his hip and knee allow. Patches has an old hip and knee injury that are currently being evaluated. Currently he is maintained on a mild anti-inflamatory drug. Patches has shown some interest in cats, but is not aggressive towards them. Patches is also a litlle over weight, and has been placed on low calorie diet. Patches walks well with a easy walker harness, is house trained, and readily learned to use the doggy door. He knows Sit and Comes when called.
Patches was relinquished to a local shelter when his elderly owner could no longer care for him, and other family members were not able to take him. Won't you consider a place in your heart for this gentle giant?

LANCE
Dallas, TX

|
ESRA #2007-194TX
Age: 2-3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Lance is an exceptionally sweet and sensitive dog and an absolute love. He lives to snuggle and cuddle and curl up as close to you as he can possibly get. Oh, and if you didn't notice, he is as adorable as they come. Lance interacts great with other dogs and also with children. He's a very well-mannered boy in the house and handles the crate well, although not necessary.
Lance is somewhat prone to urinary infections, so he needs a home with someone around during the day to let him our or a home with a doggie door. Otherwise, he is a healthy and happy, playful springer who enjoys bounding around running and playing with toys.
Lance has oodles and oodles of love to give and needs a family who has just as much time and love to give back. We believe he would absolutely flourish in a home with a stay-at-home mom/dad and as an only dog. If you are interested in sharing your life with Lance, please contact us.

RENO
Dallas, TX

|
ESRA # 2007-1023TX
Age: 2-3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs
Variety: Field-bred
Reno is a lovely dog with a sweet, gentle and calm personality. We have all absolutely fallen in love with him!
His former life of solitude has left Reno extremely timid and sad. But, since coming to ESRA, his progress has been amazing! We believe he is starting to smile! While he is still tentative in new situations, he will now approach everyone he meets and sit nicely and await your attention. His gorgeous, long tail has learned to wag, and he's beginning to hold that beautiful head up high as his confidence grows. We are just so proud of him.
Reno is fantastic with other dogs and adores their company whether it be romping in the yard or just hanging out. In fact, we will only place him in a home with at least one other dog, as the only relationship he has known is that of his sister, Jenny, recently adopted.
Reno is a great passenger in the car; he just curls up and goes to sleep. He has taken to leash-training incredibly well. He walks closely and slowly with you, almost to the point of heeling. He crates fine.
Anyone who adopts this wonderful boy will be guaranteed to gain an extraordinary and loyal companion and best friend. We look forward to hearing from you.
