SPARKY
Gilbert, AZ

|
ESRA #2007-892AZ
Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 60 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Sparky is a big, beautiful, black and white boy. He's five years old, but still acts as goofy as a puppy. Walking on a leash is an adventure for him. If you fill his water bowl from a hose, he'll try to catch the stream of water and get his drink before it reaches the bowl. He'll keep at until he's soaking wet and then he runs and skids across the patio. This big puppy will require some training to catch up on what he
missed earlier in life. He sometimes jumps up for attention or to see what's on the kitchen counter. Because of his size and exuberance, he needs to be in a home with older children only. Sparky should have a strong owner who will work with him consistently. He's a real Velcro dog, and needs the right person to guide him. He's great around other dogs, and seems okay with cats. He loves to go for a car ride and will settle down so you don't even know he's in the back seat. He sleeps in a crate at night and will stay quietly in his crate when asked to at other times. Sparky was recently neutered and is recovering well. If you're looking for a fun dog who wants to be your constant companion, put in your application for Sparky.

DUKE
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA # 2008-073ID
Age: 1-1/2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 47 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Dear Future Family,
I'm searching for a loving home. My family could not afford to take care of me, so they gave me to rescue. I love it here at my foster home, but I long for a home of my own.
I love children, especially kids in the kindergarten age. I always greet them, and gently offer my paw, and then lie down beside them when they are napping. I like very tiny kids, too, although I don't seek them out as much. They have a daycare here in this foster home, so I get to see a lot of great kids. I am very nice to other dogs. Strange dogs kind of scare me so I am very submissive and I never cause trouble with them. If they growl, I am out of sight! I'm good with the cat, too.
I hope I can have a family that wants me to be around them a lot. I like to snuggle. Actually, I love getting under blankets, whether I'm with the kis or adults! I also like to snuggle on your lap if you're on a recliner. I made the volunteer nervous when she drove me up to Spokane because I kept trying to put my head on her lap. I learned not to snuggle so much, though, while she is driving. I like to lean into your legs while you're sitting on the couch, and gently give nuzzles. I don't sleep on top of the bed, but I sure like to sleep under it!
I am housetrained, although I had an accident in the foster home the first night (how embarrassing!). I didn't want to go outside because the dogs were being rowdy and I wasn't comfortable yet. I also have good manners and I know the basics. I am really easy, the foster home says. I like to greet all the people who come to their house.
I was a little nervous at the vet's office and was a bit submissive, but I am never aggressive. The visit went fine. The vet said I am in very good health. I'm a good weight, I'm neutered, I'm on all my preventatives, etc. I do have a funny-looking head, though.
I have a condition called MMM, Masticatory muscle myositis. MMM is an inflammatory condition involving the muscles of mastication or chewing in the dog. MMM is caused by an immune mediated process targeted against specific muscle fibers; the immune system attacks the body's own muscles. The vet says my condition has run its course and it is under control.
I did not get treatment when I developed this condition, so my muscles in my head atrophied, giving me a smaller-looking head. But there is nothing wrong with my jaw. The vet says I have full range of motion. I can live a totally normal life. I had the chronic form and the atrophy was the only symptom. They are giving me steroids to see if I can get some of my muscle mass back, but I am OK! If you can get used to my pointy head, we will be just fine.
Typical of the field-bred Springer, I am leaner and have a more petite build. I have my natural tail and my dewclaws. My coat looks good! I am not birdy, though, and would rather snuggle with a bird than flush it out. I have a soft temperament and would appreciate if you talk to me in a gentle manner.
I am so happy that ESRA gave me a chance. My owners couldn't afford ear infection mediciation or anything, but they wanted me to be in a home that could afford vet care. I was very sad to leave them, and cried the first day. But I know they did it because they loved me. I am such a loving boy and I will do my best to be the perfect dog for you.

RUBY
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA # 2008-0188WA
Age: 5 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 68 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Ruby is a special, affectionate and friendly Springer. She assumes everyone is a friend, and offers her paw, jumps up (we're working on that), or offers a nuzzle to everyone she meets.
Ruby just got in foster care, so we'll be updating more soon. She was relinquished along with Roxie, another female. The shelter assumed they were sisters, and the owner was intoxicated and didn't tell them much. After spending time with them, we think Ruby is Roxie's daughter, and is probably younger than 5, maybe 3.
Ruby LOVES riding in the car. We drove about 200 miles to the foster home, and Ruby enjoyed getting out and running around when we stopped, but she couldn't wait to get back in the car. She even climbed in the trunk of my car in excitement while we were standing around. While riding, she either snuggles or looks out the window. She truly enjoys it. She spent a lot of the ride with her head gently near the driver's shoulder, softly nuzzling her, or snuggling with me. She is pretty mellow.
She is good with other dogs and cats, and she doesn't care a thing about other animals. She does well with young kids, and is very gentle. Her only problem is that she might steal a cookie from a kid every once in awhile. She thinks that the couch is for her to snuggle on. She appears to be housetrained as there have been no accidents.
She has ear infections that are pretty bad, and she still has to be spayed. She is currently in season. Otherwise, she appears to be in decent shape. She is a large Springer and maybe about 5 pounds too chubby. Her teeth are beautiful and although her ears were matted, her coat is soft and clean after a bath. Ruby will need an owner who is committed to following up on her ears, as they were allowed to get this bad.
Ruby is a super happy dog. She loves attention and will flop on the floor like a brick when it's time for a belly rub. She was doing her belly rub trick at the vet office and it was hard for them to do much as she kept rolling over to expose her belly. She's not really submissive; she just really likes those tummy rubs.
She appears to be pretty mellow in the house, but would really benefit from some exercise. She would love a fenced yard to run around in with another dog. She is a real tugger on the leash but just hasn't had the training.
Although she doesn't necessarily have to be adopted with Roxie, she DOES have to go to a home with another dog. Ruby is very used to having a canine friend and likes to look out for Roxie. She and Roxie licked each other's wounds (ears and Ruby's broken toenail) and they cuddle and comfort each other.
Ruby is a true sweetheart and we are so glad to have her in our rescue program. We can't wait to find her the loving home she deserves.

ANGEL
Oakdale, CA

|
ESRA #2007-985CA
Age: 8 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Angel wants to find a home where she can be pampered and be someone's companion.
Not much is known about her past, she's not telling. She was picked up as a stray full with mammary tumors. We suspect that she had been bred many times in her past life.
All the tumors have been removed, xrays done and no other tumors were found. She is now ready for her new home.
Angel's personality is just that, she is sweet and loves people. She would prefer to be an only dog. Cats are unknown. She also has a full tail. Her foster Mom has started her on leash and obedience training.
She is not food or toy possessive, is housetrained and rides will in a car.
Angel enjoys squeaky toys but really doesn't know how to play with them or a ball.
If you throw the stuffed toys for her, she will retrieve them but will place them in her bed like they were her puppies.
Is there room in your home and family for this deserving girl? Are you looking for a Springer to just be a devoted companion?
Please have a preliminarily approved application on file and then contact her case manager.

ALLI
Logan, UT

|
ESRA #2008-0119UT
Age: 4 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Introducing awe-inspiring Allie! I am a happy go lucky lady just wanting to be part of your family. I didn't cut it in the hunting world because I am just too sensitive. I really want to be with people that love me and will throw me a tennis ball....I love tennis balls! I was an outside dog and now I am getting used to, and really loving, the luxury of carpet... and company! When I come inside, I just get so excited that all I can do is walk around in circles holding my ball while my tail wags non stop! So my new family will need some patience to help me settle in. After 20 minutes or so I feel comfortable enough to plop down at your feet... but only if you don't get up and go anywhere! If you do, I will be right at your side!!
My foster mom has a pretty cranky cat, and she scares me, so I don't bother her at all. The cute and crazy two year old boy I live with is no problem either. I just try to sneak a few licks of leftover lunch off his hands...shh.. don't tell! There is my foster sister... I really don't pay much attention to her... I'm more a people kind of dog. So if you want to...maybe you could squeeze me in on your floor, because I never get on the furniture! I love a nice walk, on or off leash, my foster mom says I'm great either way! So paw-leese give me the chance for a wonderful new home!!
Alli came to us from a gentleman that wanted to use her for hunting, but it turns out she is gun shy. She is a very sensitive girl and really wants to be good and please you! She needs a little confidence building to bring out all of her potential. Her housetraining is coming along nicely since she has become an inside dog. However it would help her to have a home with a doggie door and a nice backyard. Alli is a wonderful dog with a lot of love to give!!

LACEY
Dallas, TX

|
ESRA #2008-0171TX
Age: 8 months
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 30 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Lacy is a beautiful girl, with the prettiest little face in the world! She was surrendered by her owners who felt that they could not give her all she needed to be happy. Lacey had the utmost love and care in her previous home.
Lacey loves everyone and anything she encounters. She's a typical Springer pup, full of enthusiasm. She needs lots of time to run and play, and to simply be a kid. She is housetrained, crate trained, and has a good start on her obedience commands. Lacey enjoys other dogs, and would love the opportunity to have a playful sister or brother.
No doubt this baby girl will go quickly. We can't wait to hear from you.

PUP PUP
San Jacinto, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0196CA
Age: 5 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 33 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Meet our newest foster,a puppy,we call Pup Pup.He was an owner relinquish and was only called Puppy which he responds to.Why change this familiarity now with every other change going on in his life?
He is a very sweet and calm for a youngster his age.Pup was an outside dog with no training so we are in the process of house training him and teaching him basic commands. He is also leery of strangers and will bark when first meeting anyone. His leash manners are not bad but again he is somewhat fearful of new encounters. He needs socialization to over come this habit.
He comes when called and already knows sit so he is eager to learn. He also has learned to use the doggie door as well.He sleeps quietly in his crate at night with no accidents as a result. His training is progressing very well since arriving here on March 9th.
This little guy is a love bug and loves to be in constant company of his foster parents. He loves playing with toys and entertains himself to a degree.
He gets along with our two dogs and is learning to deal with the resident cats although he still trying to figure out what they are.If one challenges him he runs for his life squealing like he has been attacked.
Each day the interaction gets better so I thinks a family with cats is ok.
He is up to date on all his inoculations except one remaining booster shot due on April 2nd.
His neuter is scheduled for next week. He will not be available for adoption for a few weeks yet so as we can finish his house training and has recovered from his neuter procedure.
It would be nice if he had another dog as a playmate or a stay at home family member to see him thru this first formative year. Since he was an outside dog we feel he is entitled to this companionship.
Obedience training is recommended as it enables the dog to form a bond and become the best he can be.
The only thing negative about this puppy is he become anxious in a car and drools buckets of slobber and becomes car sick. I don't think he ever rode in a car except to get his tail docked (too short I might add) at three days old.He may out grow this but it is unknown at this time.
Interested parties are welcome to inquire now but PLEASE have submitted your on line application and BEEN approved prior to inquiry.

RANGER
Calhan, CO

|
ESRA # 2008-0063KS
Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Tri-colored
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Ranger is busy learning about the good life at his new foster home. Everything seems so new to him, and he is busy exploring all that he encounters. Ranger enjoys people, and gets along well with children. He will run up to you with a big grin, and will wrap his front legs around the waist of people he knows. He also like to put his head in your lap to get pets and loving. Ranger socializes well with the other dogs in his foster home.
He walks well off leash, and seems to zero-in on birds in the field, so we think Ranger may have had some experience at hunting. He is a medium-to-high energy boy, who enjoys walks or running in the field. He is also calm around livestock. He is learning to come when called, and has mastered the doggie door. Ranger is still on the thin side from his time on the run. He is a big boy and may be close to 60 pounds when he is filled out.
Ranger is looking forward to finding his Forever Home, where he will be someones Special Boy.

ABE
Lockwood, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0149CA
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 55 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Honest, when you meet Abe, he'll steal your heart! He's such a sweet and good natured boy, and very striking too. He sports a long tail that he carries like a flag. It fits him perfectly. He's a tall boy with these long legs that are just long enough to reach the ground. He likes to stretch those legs and cover a lot of area, running and exploring, but he will settle down easily. He is quick to sit down and look into your eyes and offer his paw. You'll love his face, long ears, and big feet!
Abe gets along with everyone, including our three resident Springers and cat.
Abe was found as a stray, and landed in a shelter. He's a bit underweight, but he's healthy, neutered, microchipped, heartworm free, and ready to go! He'll need a secure fence and some obedience work. He'll make a great companion. He's a typical Springer who wants to be with people.
He'll remind you that the better part of one's life consists of his friendships. Abe is anxious to move into your life.
Approved adopters please contact his foster home.

WASABI
Houston, TX

|
ESRA # 2008-0159TX
Age: 7 months
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 31 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Meet Wasabi, the sweetest hot dog! We think Wasabi is half sheep, half dog, because of her very curly coat! Everyone thinks she is so pretty with her long tail! She is very affectionate and has great Velcro powers! For the puppy she is, she behaves really well inside the house and is house and crate trained. Well, nobody is perfect...she does cry a bit when she has to go into her crate at night, but quickly settles down.
Outdoors she likes to greet everyone, human and dog alike, though she understandably is cautious around big, intimidating dogs. Recently she fell in love with the lawn maintenance guy and wanted to leave in his van. With the changes recently in her short life, she still doesn't know where home is!
Wasabi is active outside, though she is not a boisterous puppy, and will do well either as an only dog or with another dog.
Springers typically exhibit puppy behavior for about two years, so if you're up for the challenge, don't delay! Click here to complete our adoption application.

LEVI
Houston, TX

|
ESRA #2007-942TX
Age: 2-3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 36 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Pleased to meet you! My name is Levi. They tell me I'm a great little dog! My foster mom says I'm the smallest male Springer she's ever seen.
I'm friendly with everyone I meet and very playful with other dogs (not so much cats though). I'm housetrained, crate trained, I stay off the furniture, and I try really hard not to jump up on people. I'm not a barker, whiner or beggar. I'm learning to walk on a leash, but I want to go faster than my foster mom can walk! I also enjoy going for car rides!
Because I love my people so much, I do not like to be left alone in the backyard for more than a few minutes. (I get myself into trouble trying to dig out to find them.) I also get upset if I have to sleep alone. So if I can sleep right by your bedside, I promise to be good!
If you're looking for a constant companion to be your very best friend, please fill out an application as soon as possible! I'm anxious to find my new home!

COSMO
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA # 2007-1000WA
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Cosmo is a delightful, energetic friend. He loves to be part of any activity. He is a great running companion, and does well off-leash with good recall. He will fetch a tennis ball for hours, and loves to chase snowballs through chest-deep snow. Cosmo will also sit in a person's lap on the floor, lavishing in the attention. He is really a velcro dog. He does well with other dogs and with dog-savvy cats. He loves school-age children.
Cosmo's history is kind of sad. He started out in a home, living inside an apartment. Then the family moved to a house and mom had long hours so Cosmo spent all his time outside in a kennel. Then he came to ESRA and was adopted by a nice family. He enjoyed the good life, but he was uncomfortable with the one-year-old in the household. He was great with the three-year-old, but not the toddler. Cosmo never lunged, snapped, or bit, but he did growl at the toddler a couple of times. With reluctance, the family returned Cosmo and decided not to get another dog until the toddler was older.
This is how the family explained it. Cosmo has done very well with our 3 year old, and lets her brush him and hug him. Until last week, he also interacted well with our 1 year old who loved to feed him. Unfortunately, as the 1 yr old has gained in speed and personality, Cosmo seems to feel threatened, and has growled at him. A child old enough to enjoy the dog would be a great asset, as Cosmo loves attention.
Cosmo has the nice quality of being fairly mellow inside the house. However, when it's exercise time, he has all the energy in the world. He can spend an hour at the park, chasing a tennis ball, and will go and go like the Energizer Bunny. In the adoptive home, he would go on 4-mile runs and loved them.
He really likes to play with the Aussie mix in the foster home, Meagan. They wrestle and run around, but also share everything. Meagan has decided that Cosmo's dog beds are very comfortable and will lay down on one. He doesn't mind in the slightest. Cosmo has been to to local off-leash dog park where he now plays well with other breeds. He will steal tennis balls from other dogs, and he is incredibly quick with retrieval. Cosmo is working on drop.
Cosmo's commands have improved considerably in his time with us as he is truly eager to learn. He will sit, come, stay without difficulty. He walks well on a leash with occaisional reminders (really well with a harness), and understands down accompanied by a hand signal. He quickly mastered on your mat during meals, perhaps inspired by a little treat before being released. He is gentle at taking treats. He is housetrained and has stayed out of trouble inside the house. During the day, he stays outside and plays with Meagan.
Cosmo may like getting dirty running around outside, but he loves to get clean. He is easy to brush, stays still for nail trimming, and even seems to like ear cleaning drops. He is crate-trained. He has been sleeping in his crate (in our room) as he does prance around the house in the night.
Initially, he had episodes of submissive peeing but those were done within a month. He is learning that whining gets him nothing, and that is virtually gone now. He does bark at passers by but responds well when we ask him to stop. He is a bit protective, especially when it's dark out. Cosmo doesn't jump on to furniture, but he will happily lick the dishwasher contents if it is left open!
In the first night at the foster home, he decided he needed some extra love and jumped up into the recliner with Mom, and cuddled and slept. He is a 45# lap dog with lots of love and energy to give.
Cosmo is a smart and affectionate dog, willing and able to learn in exchange for lots of love and exercise. He is truly a great companion.

JACK
Denver, CO

|
ESRA # 2007-835NE
Age: 14 months
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 43 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Hi, I'm Jack! I'm cute as a button, and just of ton of puppy fun! I know you can not resist my Springer charm...
Jack is housetrained, invisible fence trained, crate trained and is learning the intricacies of the doggie door. He is ready to learn all that you have to offer him. He loves to play, snuggle, and adores treats. He will sit so pretty for them! Jack has lived with children ages five and up. He is not an overly bouncy boy, but has that Springer energy that would benefit from daily walks.
Jack's one flaw is that he does not like to ride in a car and gets very anxious, so he would love a family that is not planning car adventures. He needs a family that will love him, and guide him in his growing up.

LANCER
San Jacinto, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0167CA
Age: 8 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 36 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Lancer arrived here Sunday 2/24 as an owner relinquishment.
Due to his former family's hectic schedule they felt it was in Lancer's best interest for ESRA to find him a new family.
He is up to date on all his innoculations and is heartworn negative. His micro chip is implanted as well.
Since arriving here it has been determined that he gets along wonderfully with our two resident dogs.He would love another dog or two for playmates.
It was apparent that he has never seen cats which he finds don't play like dogs.Having been put in his place by several his curiosity has been put in check. He still wants to play but has learned not to try and harm them or he takes the brunt end of his attempts.
A family with cats would be fine if monotored from the beginning with their introduction.
He is really a sweet puppy that is totally housetrained and learned to use the doggie door immediately. The puppy chewing stage is in his past. He loves to cuddle on the sofa or in your lap and is great representative for giving Springer Woo Woo's
He is somewhat fearful of strangers and new things but since he is a puppy I feel this problem can be overcome with continuious socialization.
It is recommended that he go to a childless family until he has completed obedience training and has been socialized gradually.
Since he is still a puppy and highly trainable I honestly feel he can get over his fears in due time in the right enviroment.
He rides well in a car but needs work with his leash skills and obedience training. He does know the meaning of NO.
If you feel that Lancer would be the right dog for you please inquire with his foster family but please have your application submitted AND approved prior to inquiry !

FLETCHER
Ouray, CO

|
ESRA #2007-525UT
Age: 8 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Hi, my name is Fletcher, but it really should be The Tranasformer. You see, I have been transformed while living with my foster family. I have regained my health, put on 12 pounds and grown a beautiful new coat. I have learned to trust people again and found that living with cats is OK.
I like all that attention I get, and one of the things I like the best is to give my foster Mom and Dad a hug when they get home. I also like to sit in their laps, but they say I'm not a lap dog. Can you imagine! I also like to ride in the car and go for walks.
My foster Dad takes me to work with him and out to the barn to do chores. There are so many good smells in the barn! I love stuffed toys and like to toss and roll with them on the floor. One of my favorite things is to see what they are made of and spend lots of time pulling out the stuffing.
I am a quiet sensitive guy, who enjoys curling up in my basket and being with my people. Won't you consider being my new Forever People.

HANK
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA # 2008-0150WA
Age: 9 months
Gender: Male
Color: Tri-colored
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Hank is an energetic young Springer who has come a long way in a short time. He is a Tri-color Springer who has a great personality. A fast learner, Hank already knows how to Sit, Stay, Come, and Lay Down. He also responds positively when he is whistled at to come in the house.
Hank is potty trained and has been put to the test with a foster home who has it all. He has been fostered by parents who have three other dogs, two cats, and three kids ranging from 10-19. He has also been exposed to ten children at once (at a family gathering) ranging from 5-19, and children with developmental disabilities, and did exceptionally well with them.
If you like to snuggle, then this boy is for you. He is a love bug who is very in tune to his humans. He will follow you around, and has even learned to play with appropriate doggie toys. He is beginning to bring the toys back to you when playing fetch.
He loves the dog park. He got along with all the dogs at the park without incident. Hank was fascinated by all the smells and sights at the local Petco. He didn't quite understand what those furry rodents were, but certainly did not miss all the chirping birds.
Although not fond of baths, he will lay on his back to receive a good brushing. Belly rubs are a favorite! Hank is still getting used to the crate idea. He will voluntarily go in it to rest with the door open, but tends to whine a little if you shut the door. Hank has not been destructive in the house, with the exception of the mini-blind he looked through to see out the window.
He is an easygoing guy who likes to play outside and snuggle inside. He's pretty calm for his age! He does jump up, but more to hug you than knock you over. He is a bit timid, and shook all through the vet exam. He is in good health, recently neutered, and has all his preventatives.
Hank has some separation anxiety, but not too severe. He just needs some stability and time. He would do best with a doggie companion, and someone who had a consisent schedule, or was home more than the average person. This guy is something really special. He has great potential, and just needs a new set of loving dog parents.

MOLLY
Olympia, WA

|
ESRA #2008-012WA
Age: 4 years
Gender: Female
Color: Tri-colored
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Molly came to rescue along with Bernie and several others. She is a beautiful female who does well with other dogs. She loves to run around the yard with Bernie.
Molly is getting spayed on January 18. She has already gotten up to date on all shots, dewormed, heartworm negative, and on Revolution. She did have intestinal parasites so will be getting a fecal re-check in early February. She has ear infections that are being treated with Panalog and antibiotics and should clear up soon. She was recently shaved down so she is as smooth as a seal right now, but her coat will grow back and will be gorgeous.
She is a very sensitive girl who still has a lot of work before she is ready to adopt. When you bring Molly inside she becomes nervous and runs in circles with a toy in her mouth. When you approach her, she will cower. If you call her, she will run in circles around you but will not let you touch her. If you gently grab onto her collar she will sit down and will let you give her loves but she is still shy. We are working with Molly so she will not be scared to come when you call her.
She is reportedly housetrained and crate-trained, but we are not sure about the housetraining as she isn't wanting to spend a lot of time inside yet. Molly has never been around children and we would not recommend them due to her nervousness. She has been around a dog-savvy cat.
Molly will need leash training and obedience training, and probably some housetraining work. She has not had any hunting training. People specifically looking to hunt should look elsewhere as we do not guarantee that our dogs will have any hunting ability. Molly enjoys the outdoors and loves to run around the yard. A fenced yard will be needed for Molly.
Although Molly is more comfortable outside right now, she will be an indoor/outdoor dog. ESRA requires that dogs live inside with the family. Soon Molly will love being inside and outside, as she becomes more socialized. Molly has some time and work ahead, but we will update regularly and post new photos.
Update 23 JAN 08: Molly is making progress! She comes inside anytime we call her inside. She does still hold on to a toy or stuffed animal. After she is inside she will circle you, but is scared to come directly to you. Outside she is the same way, very sweet and always wagging her tail, and SO happy, but reluctant to come directly to you. After you get her to you, she loves the attention. She is really getting more socialized.
Coordinator's Note: We realize that the tricolor look is extremely desirable, but Molly will need a special home. Please don't fall in love with her markings; fall in love with her.

CASEY
Seattle, WA

|
ESRA #2008-008WA
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Tri-colored
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Casey's adorable face says, LOVE ME! He is a very sweet, submissive, eager-to-please Springer who is looking for a loving home. He is rather new to rescue so we will update as we learn more about him.
He really enjoys playing with the resident Springer. He has been exposed to a dog-savvy cat. He has never been around children.
Casey will need help with leash training and basic commands. So far he is doing great with his housetraining. He has not had any accidents and seems to know what to do! An obedience class would be great to bring up his confidence and help him be an even better companion.
Casey is quite submissive at first. With people he doesn't know, he can be barky. But then he is fine. He gets along very well with his foster dad and mom. Casey has a lot of yard to play in and he really sticks close to his foster dad.
Casey had not had any hunting training. We do not recommend that people looking specifically to hunt try out a rescue dog. Instead, it would be better to get a pup from known hunting lines and train it from a young age. Casey would not do well as a hunting dog.
Casey was recently neutered and is now up to date on shots and all his preventatives. He does have kennel cough now so will need to recover during the next few weeks. His foster dad says he is a very special little guy with a lot of love to offer!

FRANKIE
Oxnard, CA

|
ESRA #2007-1096CA
Age: 8 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 30 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Hi everyone, I'm Frankie. I'm best described as a young energetic boy who loves balls. I'm looking for my forever home. One requirement for my new parents is they like to throw a ball because my motto is, Have Ball, Will Play. I would rather catch the ball then eat. When you meet me I will probably have a ball in my mouth as I like to take it everywhere.
If you thought about getting into dog sports I would make a great Flyball dog because I am so ball motivated. Oh did I say I can also catch a Frisbee too.
Frankie is a young pup with all the puppy energy and enthusiasm. He is smart and a quick learner. His foster Dad has been working with him on some commands and he will sit at the curb until you tell him it's okay to step down. He does well on a leash, rides nicely in the car and is housetrained. He's not fond of baths but will put up with them.
Frankie likes to be the center of attention, so he might be best as an only dog or with a submissive younger one. We don't know how he is around cats but probably not.
He loves to cuddle and settles right down in the house. He loves all people but because of his energy children over 5 would be best.
We will ask that his new family take him to obedience classes so he can be the best boy he can be.
He is up to date on shots, microchiped but still needs to be neutered and will not be able to go to his new home until the end of February.
Please have a preliminarily approved application on file and then contact his case manager.

WRIGLEY
Denver, CO

|
ESRA #2008-0091UT
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 35 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Hi, my name is Wrigley! I got my name because I am so wiggly! I really love my name and I started answering to it right away. I am a very happy boy!! (that's the reason why I am so wiggly) I am especially happy to be out of the shelter. Because anyone who meets me can't believe my other family wouldn't come to get me. My foster mom says I am very obedient and I am great at walking off my leash. I am housetrained and I love to play with toys!!
I like to run around with something in my mouth all the time. I love to play fetch with a tennis ball, if you happen to have any around. Did I mention I like to play with toys? But I know what toys are for and I wouldn't chew on anything else, I promise! I am very mellow in the house and I know how to use the dog door like a pro!!
I am a very good boy who only wants a loving home and someone to snuggle up with. I like kids and all the other dogs I meet. I am a very friendly guy! My foster mom had a hard time deciding not to keep me herself. She said I was absolutely great!! There is nothing that I do not like and if you will take me home I will be your best friend forever!!

NICK
Phoenix, AZ

|
ESRA # 2007-1021AZ
Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 35 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
They really named me Nicholas, but chose Nick for short. So guess you can figure about when I came into ESRA's care. Yes, it was two days before Christmas. Wow, I had the best Christmas ever with several foster brothers and sisters, including a puppy. My foster Mom made sure I was all warm and cuddly. A big difference to the cold, lonely cage I had been in at the shelter.
I love to go to the dog park - where all these dogs and their owners just run and play. It is the favorite thing in my day. The other thing that is essential in my day is that I want is to be loved, loved, loved by my humans. Too many hugs and belly rubs are never enough for me.
Foster mom says: Nick is a great dog. He is very social and independent. He still needs a little house training, as he will occasionally have an accident in the house, if he is a little nervous. Patience and a strong will to work and socialize him is an essential for this friendly boy. Nick is good with children, but they should be older and bigger than he is. Nick is a work in progress, but he has learned Sit and Come and isn't bad on a leash - it's all new to him.
To adopt this great dog,

ROCKY
Parker, CO

|
ESRA # 2008-0040UT
Age: 7 months
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 31 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Rocky is a sweet, wonderful puppy. He made the trip from Utah with his brother Robby. They are as close as 2 brothers can be.
Rocky came to us a very thin, leery and scared little boy. He did not have the same start in life that his brother did. Rocky was purchased from the breeder and after a few months was not wanted anymore. Rocky ended up in the shelter were his brother was. The 2 of them have been inseparable ever since.
He loves to play with his brother Robby. He has learned to sit and comes running when called. As much as Rocky enjoys walks he still needs a bit of work on his leash skills. He is kennel trained and loves to have toys in there with him. Rocky is house trained, but will need constant reinforcement to stay that way for a while longer. He gets along great with the 2 older dogs in the house as well. Rocky has not met a person that he hasn't wanted to meet. He is an outgoing pup who has the best smile. Rocky is gaining weight and coming into his own, every day is a new adventure for him.
Rocky is a great puppy and with love, guidance and continued education he will become the wonderful Springer that he is meant to be. If you feel you have the perfect home for Rocky - please send Jim an email!

Robby is a Springer puppy through and through! He is inquisitive, full of energy, and smart. Robby loves to play with his brother Rocky. He has learned to Sit, and comes running when called. MIKKO
Tacoma, WA

|
ESRA # 2008-0074WA
Age: 16 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Mikko is a AKC field bred from Minnesota. The owner is relinquishing him because she now lives in a third-floor apartment and he is crated all day while she is at work. She wishes she had the time and space for him, but doesn't expect the situation to change, so Mikko is now in rescue.
He loves people, and has done well with small children. He is super affectionate, and loves getting hugs and giving kisses. He is a bit on the clingy side, and likes to be with you.
Mikko is a high energy dog who would benefit from more exercise. He loves to fetch! He could use more training on the leash and in off leash areas. It would be ideal if he could fetch in the yard with some kids.
Mikko is housetrained and crate trained. He is up to date on everything, and stays on Frontline all year. He likes to go to the groomer. He sleeps in the bedroom in a crate or on his dog bed. Mikko knows commands such as Sit, Come, Down, No and Off. Mikko does like to be a bit naughty sometimes, though, and occasionally counter surfs and jumps up. He is protective, but only in a mild, desirable way.
Mikko would do best as the only pet in the home. He barks at other dogs while walking on a leash; he lacks social skills. He has never been around other dogs to play or interact, so he will need to go to an only dog home and be slowly introduced to others. The owner says he can be dominant with other dogs. That may help after we get him neutered. He has never been around cats.
Mikko would do best in a situation with children and a fenced yard, with an active family who loves to have their dog involved in all aspects of family life.

Returned!
EMILY
Stanton, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0111CA
Returned to her owner 01MAR08 !
The owner that had lost Emily saw her photo on the web site!
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 48 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Meet Miss Emily. Ever since I first saw her, the song "Gypsy Woman" keeps running through my head to describe this graceful young Springer. She bounds joyfully with a ball in her mouth, then she will suddenly sit, and flirtatiously throw her head with those long, dark, curly ears back, and look at you sideways as if to say, "Let's frolic together...pleeease!"
Emily is as sweet as can be, and VERY high energy. She is longing for a family of her own, and a lap to curl up into, after lots of playtime, of course! She will settle down with you after exercise periods.
Emily needs a home with a good sized yard. The ball is one of her favorite things. At this point, she does not want to bring it back to you.
Maybe you can be the one to train her? Emily does know basic commands like Sit, Down, and Stay, but she would benefit and bond with someone definitely committed to her further training. Emily would do best in one-on-one, not group, training sessions.
Emily's rescue story began when she wandered into the garage of a kind person who vetted her and gave her a warm bed. Her pads were all bloody from the long walk she must have had as a stray. We can only guess, but she may have been roaming through the hills near Valencia before finding her way to refuge. The woman who found Emily could not keep her, and she asked ESRA to take her in.
Emily loves curling in your lap, car rides, walks, and playing with you in the yard. She goes easily into a crate for car trips. At the veterinarian, her care-giver says that a child ran right up to Emily, and Emily tolerated it just fine. If you have children, because of her normal exuberance, we think Emily would like a little older age - perhaps 10 and up.
The lady in Emily wants to be your only dog at home. She is an alpha female, and will flourish with an experienced owner who will be her Alpha and affectionate friend. Emily is extremely people-friendly, but may guard spaces like her car from strangers. She has been known to do okay with dogs at the vets office, so it may be just her home that she does not care to share with another dog.
Emily is housetrained, spayed, up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, and eager to meet her new Forever Family. This lady will enchant you!
Please have a pre-approved application on file prior to contacting Emily's case manager.

MAYNARD
Westminster, CO

|
ESRA #2008-0123UT
Age: 1-1/2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Hi my name is Maynard! I think you will like me when you meet me, most everyone does!! I am a very cute boy, or so I have been told. I am lots of fun and full of energy as you might expect from a dog of my young age!! I am learning about lots of new things since I have been in rescue. I do like to ride in the car! At first it was fun looking out all the windows and finding the softest seat, but then I found a comfy place to settle down and ride very calmly.
When my great new friend took me to the doggy beauty shop for a bath, I had a lot of fun looking the place over and taking in all the smells. Speaking of smells, I came out of that place looking and smelling much better than when I went it!! I really liked meeting all the people in the beauty shop, I love people and I always want to be around them. I get along well with other dogs too, so I guess I am a pretty friendly guy.
I haven't been in rescue or my foster home for very long. My other owner released me to the shelter, and lucky for me the wonderful rescue lady came along very soon to pick me up! Thank goodness!! I like it a lot better where I am now and I will very be happy when I have a new home to call my own! Check back with my foster mom in a few days to find out more about me after she gets to know me better.
But I really think you are going to like me when you meet me, most everyone does!!

Gender: Male & Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 48 & 40 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
These gorgeous young Springers were tearfully relinquished by their owners due to a change in their living situation. We have promised to find Wyatt and Katie a very special family who will cherish them, as they have always been.
Wyatt and Katie are registered half sibilings originally from a breeder in Arizona. They have beeen beautifully cared for their entire lives, and it shows. They are excellent family dogs who get along with everyone. They're healthy and housetrained.
Wyatt has lots of spunk and energy and needs a place where he can be 100% Springer. He is absolutely stunning to watch! And, sweet Katie, her happiness comes from being next to her human. Their two personlities combined make for a perfect Springer package.
We will only adopt these bonded buddies out as a pair. They have already had to endure leaving their family and home; we cannot then ask them to leave each other.

Age: 8 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Oh, Oh, Domino!! Once you meet this handsome Springer you'll be singing his name. He is hard to forget.

He does like to play and run around, but like most gentlemen, prefers to be seen not heard. Domino loves his belly rubbed, and tells you so by giving you kisses back.
One of his favorite spots is where you are. He has not met a person or canine that he has not liked.
Domino is a wonderful guy, with much life to live, and love to give. If Domino sounds like your kind of Springer, then let us know! Send Jim an email and ask to Domino. Be prepared to fall in love.

|
ESRA #2008-178CA
Age: 7 months
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: ?? lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Reilly is a very loved puppy who has had a wonderful home. His parents are heartbroken to have to re-home him, but must, due to health reasons.
As you can see, Reilly loves to have tea parties with his little granchildren, and loves everybody and everything.
He knows Sit, Down and Come (most of the time), but gosh, he's still a puppy!
He is eager to learn, and loves to cuddle. Reilly is super sweet, and is housetrained and pretty calm for a youngster, but like all Springers he needs lots of exercise, love and training.
He will return this with a lifetime of companionship, devotion, fun, and unwavering love.

SCARLETT
Arlington, WA

|
ESRA #2007-792WA
Age: 9 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 60 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Miss Scarlett is a lovely lady in all respects. She is a polite, sweet, dignified female. She deserves a life of grandeur and excellence, but has not had that until recently.
Scarlett gets along beautifully with all dogs. She enjoys people immensely and has taken a special shine to the foster dad. She is well-behaved and is housetrained with basic commands. Behaviorally, she is a low-maintenance dog who is all about snuggling on the dog beds. In fact, she picked out a gorgeous rose bed as her very favorite... perfect for Lady Scarlett!
Health-wise, Scarlett has not been lucky. She was found as a stray in Kitsap County with a matted mess of a coat. She had ear infections, broken teeth, bad skin, and more. In addition to a spay and dental, and all the preventative care (shots, heartworm test, fecal test, etc.), we dealt with low thyroid and kennel cough. Scarlett will feel much better, her weight will go down, and her skin will improve after her thyroid level is normalized. Her teeth feel so much better that she's enjoying chewy toys and treats now. Her ears are another story; one is so bad that the eardrum ruptured. So we are getting those back to health. Scarlett will require daily thyroid meds (about $10 a month), and thorough checking of her ears, for the rest of her life.
Scarlett has been tested with kids and the report was great. She did well with two four-year-olds. She wasn't just tolerant of the children, she was very interested in them and sought them out. She is feeling a lot better now and is jumping up on people (they're working on that) so we wouldn't recommend toddlers, but young children would be great. Her infections are clearing up and she has regained some hearing. She really likes to cuddle with the other dogs and is a very happy camper.
We've found that Scarlett is NOT good with cats. We also want to place her in a home where there is another dog. She is inseparable from her Springer friend, Minnow, who is the resident dog. They do everything together. So she'd love a canine companion.

MICK
Colorado Springs, CO

|
ESRA #2008-0106KS
Age: 2-3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 38 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
I am Mick. Little is known about my past and I would just as soon forget about it and start new memories with a loving family. Somewhere in my short life of 2-3 years I learned to be house trained and can come when called, still working on Sit and OFF. My foster mom is trying to teach to fetch the morning paper so my new owners won't have to brave the cold. I do not beg at the table and will only curl up next to you when invited or know when you need a little love. I am very low key.Feed me, Love me is all I ask. Think of me as a comfortable pair of shoes, easy going, no worries. My foster family can't figure out what toys I like to play with. Did I mention I love to run with my foster mom, we have this route of 2 miles and after that morning run I will curl up on the floor in whatever room she is in and take a snooze.
I room well with other dogs and kids, my foster family has a 10 year old and a 12 year old plus the other Springer in fact. let me tell you about her...better not , my foster mom will read this and not think it was funny.
Back to me, I love being outside and I have passed the left alone in the house test. I do not counter-surf and do not chew. Pick ME .Love me!!!

He gets along well with his foster brother and most any dog he meets. He does like to chase cats, but just to see if they want to play! Vader rides well in the car, he is housetrained, but he is still puppy enough to possibly chew something you forgot to pick up off the floor!! Vader is good with children, he is just a little too friendly sometimes and thinks jumping up to greet everyone is the best way to make friends!
Vader's previous family loved him enough to want to give him the best life he could have. If you think Vader would be just the right dog for you and you would like to give him a happy, loving, new Forever Home, please call us soon!
I think Vader is going to become quite the popular new guy on the block!!

FERGUS
Antioch, CA

|
See Furgus' Special Needs Page
ESRA #2008-0027CA
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 55 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Fergus aka Fergie, was brought into the Marysville shelter after being hit by a car. After attempts to find his owner failed, the shelter elected to release him to ESRA. Before his release, x-rays revealed a fractured tibia which would require surgery.
Fergie was transported to Rio Vista on January 8 where he was picked up and brought to his foster home in Antioch. Fergie arrived with his left rear leg wrapped in a soft cast running from his hip to his foot, but managed to get around with the proverbial three-legged hop.
Rave reviews followed this very sweet boy, from the shelter staff who said he was an excellent patient to the ESRA volunteers who transported him to Rio Vista. And his foster mom totally agrees with this assessment.
Fergie made his first visit to the local vet who was able to make arrangements with an orthopedic surgeon to operate the next day, January 9. Surgery to repair the leg involved placing a steel plate, pin and screws to secure the bone so that it will heal.
It will take a long convalescence for healing to take place, the bone to mend, and Fergie to regain full use of his leg. Due to the length of the convalescence, he will not be available for several months. Due to the costs related to his surgery and subsequent follow-up care, he is soon to be listed on the Special Needs page where you will find a more comprehensive description on his injuries, including pictures.

DEWEY
Phoenix, AZ

|
ESRA # 2007-972AZ
Age: 18 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Hi there. My name is Dewey. and I'm looking for a new home. I gotta tell you though: not any home will do. I'm a very high energy dog. Just look at some of my photos at this link , and you'll see I get a lot of exercise. If you're the kinda person who thinks putting me on a leash and walking me for a mile or so a day constitutes exercise, you and I are not a very good match. I'm used to running full out for an hour or so each day, and full out is 10-25 mph. I'm less like Melvil Dewey, who spent a lot of time in the library, and much more like George Dewey who enjoyed seeing the world and taking an active role. Gotta admit though, that I always admired John Dewey and Donald Duck's nephew, Dewey. Not sure who I was named after, but I certainly have a name with a fine tradition.
I'm, about a year and a half old - in excellent health and in the absolute prime of my life. You can probably count on me staying in this highest energy mode for maybe 4 or 5 more years. If you get out regularly and enjoy camping, hiking or biking; and if I can come along unleashed, and it's legal — well we could become the very best of friends. I require lots of space to run and play ball, and I'll be loyal and loving, share my kisses, come when called, sit when told, ride well in the car, and enjoy our every minute together if given the chance. But I'm all dog. If you're looking for a dainty eater or drinker, I'm not your guy. I am house-broken, I use the doggy door whenever I want to go out, and I enjoy sleeping near your feet if you're sitting quiety working or watching TV. I just love to play, but I may be a bit much for small children. Remember, I am energetic, active, and intelligent. Just check my spelling here. I think I could do quite well in obedience school if you'd enjoy sharing that experience with me.
If you are interested in me, the first thing you need to do is read the learn about the adoption process. You can go here to start that process. so we don't have any misunderstandings about what we expect from each other. Then you need to fill out an adoption application . If you are particularly interested in me, say so on the application. My name is Dewey and my ESRA number is 2007-972AZ. AFTER you've filled the adoption application, you can contact my foster parents at the email link below. Before you do that though, you might want to check out one more time the photos and movies of me at this link .

MARCUS
Monterey, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0083CA
Age: 2-1/2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 60 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
I'm Marcus and I'm looking for my Forever home. My first family didn't care much about me, and I was left alone a lot, so I didn't learn things I'm suppose to in my early years. But a nice family took me in, and for the last four months They have been teaching me all those things like Sit, Back (not to charge at the door), and walking nicely on a leash.
I hear them say I'm really smart and learn quickly. Oh, did I say they have been giving me a lot of love too. This nice family can't keep me because they don't have a yard, and their house is too small, but want me to have a great home maybe with another dog so I have a friend to play with. I love to play with the ball, and really love the water. If you need someone to gather kelp from the ocean, I'm your guy.
Marcus has a wonderful personality, although rather shy at first, but take him for a walk and you made a friend. He is housetrained, and sleeps next to the current owners bed, rides well in the car, is good at the vet's, doesn't mind baths or grooming, is great with other dogs, and loves people of all ages. He is currently living with a cat, so he'd be fine with a dog-savvy cat. He loves vegetables, and gets them as treats.
Marcus is all muscle, and as he is rather athletic, and LOVES to swim. He enjoys toys and balls.
He is still in need of much basic training, like learning not to jump on people. He does know some commands like Sit, Back and Down, but his new family will be expected to take him to obedience class so he can be the best he should be.
He's looking for an active family that he can be part of. No couch potatoes for him.
Please have a preliminarily approved application on file and then contact his case manager.

JACK
Rock Springs, WY

|
ESRA # 2008-0056UT
Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Hi, my name is Jack, and I am a three-year-old black and white Springer. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am very friendly and playful and I love hard chew toys (like Nylabones). I am housetrained, come when I am called, and I ride well in the car. I probably would not be good with cats, because I try to get the ferrets at my foster home. Sometimes, I like to counter surf...a guy gets hungry once in a while, you know! I need to put on a few pounds any way.
My foster mom says I am a real love and a sweetheart of a dog. She says he loves attention and takes treats very gently. He is very intelligent dog and has the ability to learn. Jack loves to play with our ten-month-old Springer.
It seems Jack may have been trained with an aggressive hand. He is very timid of men and worries when given a command by a man even when it is given in a calm voice. Jack does not react that way with women. He is much more trusting and happy around women. Jack would probably do best in an active home without young children because he worries about being punished. Jack will need someone who will be patient with him and allow him time to trust again. He will do best with a gentle hand and someone who will allow him to be a house dog. He loves to be in the house with his people where he feels safe.
If you think you could provide a wonderful home for Jack, please fill out an adoption application.

SAM & LUCKY
Santa Ana, CA

Sam

Lucky

|
ESRA # 2008-0059CA - Sam
ESRA # 2008-0058CA - Lucky
Age: 6 months
Gender: Males
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 30 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Looking for double wet kisses, butt wiggles, and Springer woo woo's? If so, then check out Sam and Lucky.
Sam and Lucky are siblings, and have been together their whole, short lives. Their family rescued them from a pet store situation, but found they had to re-home them because they were over the allowed size in the home owner's regulations. They are VERY bonded, and will ONLY be placed TOGETHER. They are each other's security.
Both are very smart, and eager to learn and please. Both are on the timid side understandably, but are very sweet and loving boys. Lucky is the first to greet you. Sam is more hesitant, observing first, then coming to say a quick "Hi". They love people, and are great at the vets office. They also seem to do well when meeting other dogs. I'm told they have no interest in the chickens where they are currently staying. Cats are unknown.
True to the Springer reputation, they are "birdie". Birds, or anything that flies, fascinates them. They are learning to run and play, and discover what being a puppy is. Remember, they spent the first 4 months in a kennel of sorts. Both love to play ball, and will chase and retrieve it. They are learning basic commands like Sit. They both seem to be almost housetrained. Neither knows how to walk on a leash yet. They don't pull, they just don't know what it's about.
Sam and Lucky will need a family that is prepared for puppy personalities, but must also be patient, as they still have a lot of learning/catching up to do. They would like a home where they have a large yard to run and play together, with a family that is active, and willing to train and teach them new things.
They will only be adopted TOGETHER so please do not ask us to separate them.
Please have a preliminarily approved application on file and then contact their case manager.

CHARLIE
Orange, CA

|
ESRA #2008-0049CA
Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Charlie is best described as a Velcro dog. He loves being with his humans, so if you are looking for a best buddy to take with you on errands, walks or just hang out with, he is your boy. He is very affectionate and loves to cuddle.
Charlie loves to go for walks, enjoys the outdoors, rides well in the car, gets along with other dogs, and loves people of all ages. We are unsure about cats, although he showed little interest in them at an adoption event recently. He is also house trained, obedient, knows basic commands, and will shake your hand.
Charlie is smart, inquisitive, and a fast learner. He is not food possessive, even allowing you to take a chew from him, but has been known to counter-surf looking for treats.
He doesn't like to be left alone or confined to small spaces, so his new family should be around a lot.
Charlie's previous owner's left him at the shelter because they had no more interest in him, so now he's looking for a new Forever Family. Could that be yours?
Please have a preliminarily approved application on file and then contact his case manager.

KAITY
North Hills, CA

|
ESRA #2007-1019CA
Age: 5 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 25 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Meet Kaity. When one of ESRA's volunteers went to the Bakersfield shelter to pull another Springer, she was asked if she'd also take a second dog. This dog was a stray and it was 2 days prior to her availability date, but the shelter rep said she was so traumatized in the shelter they'd be willing to release her early to ESRA. Needless to say, TWO Springers left the shelter that day!
Kaity was unspayed, but her spaying had to be delayed until she'd recovered from kennel cough. She was spayed on January 4th, and it was discovered then that she was about 30 days pregnant.
Little Kaity has been through a lot. In addition to the loss of her puppies, it's apparent she'd been mistreated in her previous life. Probably by a man as she's afraid of men, and it takes her quite awhile to warm up to them. At first she was afraid of the three resident Springers in her foster home, but after quickly learning she had nothing to fear, she gets along fine with them. She's settled in, and has become one of the family. She sleeps on her foster mom's bed, snuggled up to her every night. There's been no indication of any separation anxiety when she's left home alone with the other dogs.
Kaity is very timid and needs attention and loving even more than most Springers, most likely due to her previous life. She's also one of the most affectionate and loving Springers I've ever known.
She's up to date on vaccinations, and is doing very well with her housetraining. She's down to very few accidents. Even though her foster home doesn't have a doggy door, I think she'd do fine with one because if I can leave the back door open for her to come and go as she needs, she has no accidents.
Are you the special home Kaity needs? If so, be sure to have an adoption application approved before contacting her foster home

BUDDY
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA # 2007-1025ID
Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 60 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Buddy is a sweet boy looking for a Forever Friend. His favorite activity is spending time with his person. Typical for his breed, he is affectionate, loyal, playful, and full of tail wags and loves water.
Buddy was found as a stray in the Boise area. His finder did everything she could to find the owners, but they never surfaced. So, after plenty of time had gone by after reporting him missing to the shelters, and putting ads in the paper, she took him to the vet. Buddy is now neutered, and up to date on everything. He has a bit of plaque on his teeth, and would benefit from a dental in the next couple of years. He had some wax buildup in his ears, but no mites, infection, etc. He is in good health.
Buddy does well with other dogs, and is fine with braver cats, but will chase cats if they run from him. He is now housetrained, and walks on a leash. He is learning some very basic commands. When his foster mom is away at work, Buddy stays in a fenced yard with two other dogs. He would do best in a home where he has the company of another dog or two.
Our rescue dogs are not appropriate for people specifically looking for a hunting dog. They are family pets who may, or may not, have any hunting instincts or training, but they do promise to be loyal, affectionate, and to provide endless tail-wagging.
We have some before-grooming shots, and will update with new photos soon. You can still tell what a great personality he has from looking at that adorable face! Please consider this happy, loving boy as a Forever Family member.

CHESTER
Spokane, WA

|
ESRA #2007-960ID
Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred
Chester's original name...well he didn't have one; his owner just called him IT. The owner was tired of having a dog and had threatened to shoot IT. So a friend agreed to take IT but he had an apartment so he took IT to the shelter. The shelter was full and was euthanizing all intakes, so they called us. Our volunteer raced to the shelter to get him. She had just been there hours earlier to get another Springer out of danger.
The first thing we did that night was give IT a real name, Chester. We were so grateful that the friend intervened, as we hate to think of Chester's fate. Chester shows some signs of abuse. He used to cower when you raised your voice just a tiny bit. If you picked up the broom to sweep, he went running. If you made motions with your hands too quickly, he would cower or race away and hide. He was scared to meet anyone. He bonded quickly to the volunteer who rescued him and he'd always climb in her lap. He still likes to hug and snuggle.
Chester's sad past is all behind him now. The Foster Mom says, The dog I first got didn't know what a toy was let alone how to play with one. He was afraid to touch the toy with his mouth and he would gently touch his paw to the toy and then run away. The dog I first got was terrified of being in a household and anything and everything that entailed. The dog that first came to me was terrified of people, kids, cats, and other dogs. Now Chester is a completly changed dog. Being fostered in a day care environment has done tons to boost Chester's confidence.
We recently introduced Chester to a visiting volunteer and she couldn't believe that Chester had ever been scared. Tail wagging 80 times a minute, he happily greeted her and had no qualms about being handled. He loves life and it shows when you meet him! You've never seen a tail wag so fast, all the time. You can't help but smile when you see just how much enthusiam the little boy has.
Chester is changing for the better everyday. Just recently the resident dog Buddy has slowly but surely taught Chester how to playfully interact with another dog and play rough. You hear the funny noises they make as they wrestle on the ground. Chester now prances instead of timidly skulks. Because Chester is so young, and is making such progress, we are sure that with a person who is going to give him non stop love, he should forget those terrible days bfore rescue saved his life.
Chester is housetrained and knows basic commands but is not polished. We've focused on socialization more than obedience, and he would benefit from a positive obedience class with his new family. He needs to be with another dog as he does not like to be alone without canine company. He does well with cats. He is great with children of all ages. He has not had a lot of exposure to men but has done well lately with any daycare dads he's met. Chester is healthy. We've neutered him and taken care of any preventatives. He is the sweetest, cutest, most precious boy.
Chester needs a home with a loving family, another dog to play with, and a fenced yard. He promises to give you all the love you can stand. He needs to be appreciated for his strength, resilience, and forgiveness. He is overflowing with love and happiness and deserves to have that love returned.

SAM
Seattle, WA

|
ESRA #2007-659WA
Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 70 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
If you have a soft spot for a big marshmallow of a dog, Sam might be a good fit. He loves to be with his people and will follow his caregiver from room to room. He is a mellow companion that enjoys the simple things in life: walks, cuddling, quiet time, a good bone, giving kisses to his people, his furry toys, etc.
Sam is well behaved and obedient. He is not a digger, jumper, or door scratcher. He is never destructive to the house and yard. He knows basic commands and is housetrained. He stays close in the yard, and likes to see you. He doesn't ever chase things or try to run away for fun. He is not a barker. Although he is interested in the squirrels, he's not a fast runner, so they are always safe. He is the ultimate Velcro well-behaved companion.
He needs a quiet household, where there are not a lot of loud noises or chaos. He is so mellow and loving, and would snuggle all day long with the adults. Sam does not like to be left alone, and will whine or howl sometimes. We think he would do best with a retired person or someone who worked from home.
He is unknown with cats but really enjoys other dogs. He goes for walks with the neighbor dogs and loves it. He would need to be with a nice dog. He is currently with another nice, mellow dog and loves it. When a dominant dog was in the household, it was very sad for Sam as he never fought back. He is submissive. Sam is also nervous about riding in a car and will whine a little.
Sam is an incredibly sweet and gentle boy who was adopted 4 months ago by a nice family. Sam had been in a kennel his whole life, so he was not well-socialized. They trained Sam and found he was a wonderful companion, but he never got used to the teenagers. Months after the adoption, he will run and hide, terrified, when the kids are around. We're not sure if Sam had a bad experience with teens or what, but he is not comfortable with kids. He would never, ever be aggressive, but he gets anxious and tries to run away. He is scared enough that he will run into things or slip on the floor in his haste to get away. So we are positive that there should not be kids in the household. Kids visiting, such as grand-kids, would be fine, but not kids all the time.
Sam is healthy and pretty big-boned. He is on a low-calorie diet and is slowly losing weight. He still needs to lose a few pounds. He's had a dental and has beautiful teeth. He is neutered and up to date on everything. His coat is gorgeous and he's been doted on since coming to rescue.
Do you have the big heart and quiet household to offer Sam? He will reward you with unconditional love and loyalty, and all the snuggling you can handle.
