SPRINGER FOSTER PARENTS NEEDED!!
Do you have room in your home and your heart for a Springer in need? We pay for necessary veterinary expenses, including heartworm medications and flea prevention. We ask that you provide food, toys, lots of love, a kind hand, and a safe home in which a Springer can live temporarily while we seek that perfect Forever Home for him or her.
We do not have a shelter or kennel, and our ability to continue rescuing depends on whether we have a place for the dogs to stay when they are released to our rescue group. We exist entirely on donations and adoption fees, so it is difficult for us to board an animal in a kennel or vet's office since most foster dogs are in our care for 2 to 6 weeks.
If you give a rescue dog a temporary home, not only will you save a life, you will vastly improve your own. People who love animals live longer, healthier lives and you'll redecorate your home with fur for free!
If you will consider helping our dogs, please fill out our Foster Home Application or contact your state's coordinator
Thank you for helping in any way you can. |

ESRA # 2007-227IL
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 47 lbs
Variety: Field-Bred
Meet Gordy! Gordy is a happy, healthy, 2-1/2 year old, liver and white, neutered English Springer Spaniel. He weighs 47 lbs., is micro chipped and is up to date on all his shots. Gordy is housetrained and enjoys being bathed and brushed.
This handsome, field-bred boy is a lot more than just a pretty face. He is an exceptional example of classic Springer style, spirit and grace. This high-energy athlete ‘lives' to play fetch, loves to swim and possesses boundless enthusiasm.
He is a smart dog with a dominant personality who is particular about who he shares his home with. His adopters need to have experience, patience, and skill in handling a high-spirited dog. Because of his enthusiasm, we are recommending an adult only home. Gordy is a goldmine of potential; looking for someone with the commitment and 'know how' to develop his exceptional abilities. He requires a 5 -6 ft. fenced yard for safe exercising several times each day, and obedience training is a must.
Recently we introduced Gordy to the Gentle Leader Headcollar, and have been using it when practicing obedience skills. He responds eagerly when rewarded with treats or tennis balls. Gordy is bright and alert, and he learns very quickly. Sit ,Stay, Down, Come, and Heel have all improved greatly. He is a joy to work with. He will be a perfect companion for an active person who enjoys being outdoors. Gordy is always ready for a hike, swim, game of Frisbee, and of course, his favorite-tennis ball fetch.
Gordy has beauty, brains, and talent. Are you the person who could bring out the many facets of this "diamond in the rough"? Contact: Denise Garwood esra_quad_il@yahoo.com

ELVIS
Indianapolis, IN

|
ESRA # 2007-884IN
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs
Variety: Field-Bred
Elvis is a happy and contented dog...he loves to play ball and follow you around wherever you go, but he's just as happy to lay at your feet and watch TV all night. He stays in his crate when we are gone or sleeping. Cats are OK. He barks at our house cat, but has never chased her. Elvis will need a family that will allow him to have a crate for a while. He sleeps and naps in his crate with the door open. I think this is his Feel Safe spot.
Elvis is housebroken, going to the door and barking when he needs out, but he hasn't learned to hold it long after he alerts you so you will need to hurry to the door. But here, let Elvis tell you a little about himself.
Hi. My name is Elvis and I'm a terribly cute (don't you agree?) and happy 2 y/o. I'd do just about anything for a Good Boy and a pat on the head. That makes me soooo happy that I wag my tail like crazy. My foster mom says I'm really smart because I've learned the rules around the house really fast. She also says I don't have a mean bone in my body but I do play a little rough. I can't help it, I just love people of all ages and can hardly contain myself when someone I know comes home or I meet someone new. I guess I'm still pretty puppy-ish when I play (and boy do I like to play) so I need to learn not to jump on and mouth people, especially little people. My little foster brother loves to play with me. I have lots of puppy energy so I need lots of exercise. I would do great in a house with a family with older children and another dog that would like to play with me. My foster mom says I'll be a wonderful addition to someone's family. Is that family yours?

OLIVER
Valparaiso, IN

|
ESRA # 2007-300IL
Age: 8 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs
Variety: Field-Bred
Hi. My name is Oliver - Ollie, for short. When I first came into rescue, I was a mess. I had been on my own for a while, and let me tell you, that ain't much fun!. I had to scrounge for food and it was slim pickin's for a while there. I had all kinds of these little critters hidin' in my fur, and they made me itch all over. My fur got kinda rough and I lost a lot of weight. But that's all changed now that I'm an ESRA dog!. I get two 'squares' a day, lots of treats, and a brushing just about every night. Mmmm, mmm - It don't get much better than that!
Anyway! My foster mom thought I better tell you a little bit about myself. You see, I'm a little older than some of these young whipper-snappers around here and I'm kinda set in my ways. (Ollie's funny about telling people his age, but just for the record, we think he's about 8 years old.) My foster mom says that it's not so much that I'm difficult, but that I'm particular. For example, I enjoy a game of fetch now and again. You know - you throw the ball or toy, I run and get it, bring it back to you, you throw it again, I run and get it etc., you get the idea, right? The thing is, if I give you the toy, that's one thing, but I don't like it when someone tries to take something from me that I don't want to give up. You gotta give me something first, like a treat, then I don't mind giving up what I have.
I love taking walks too. My foster mom says that she really appreciates the fact that I don't pull on the leash. She says that I could teach some of these youngsters a thing or two about leash manners. By the way, I want to make something clear here; I have a little arthritis, but as long as I take my medicine, which I don't mind at all, I can go for walks, do stairs, and even jump into the car so that I can help you with your errands.
I also don't hear so good sometimes, so if you need my attention, try hand signals. If I'm sleeping, I don't appreciate someone startling me. Try gently blowing on me or tapping the floor with your foot. It's for this same reason that I'd rather be an only dog. If your dog is really nice and not food aggressive or dominant I might consider bein' friends with him. I have a four-legged foster brother and sister that I live with right now and I get along with them pretty good. (Okay; he's okay, but she's definitely what you'd call 'high maintenance', if you know what I mean?) There's also a cat around here somewhere, but he pretty much keeps to himself and I don't want to hang around with him anyway.
My favorite part of the day is when my foster mom turns on the TV after supper. We watch a little TV, play a quiet game of fetch and then she lets me lie on her lap and snooze a little before we hit the sack for the night.
Sure liked to tell you more about myself. Why don't you come on over and we'll watch the TV, you can throw the ball, and then we'll snooze together a while.
Notes from Ollie's Foster Mom:
While Ollie is a wonderful dog to have around, he does have his quirks. We are looking for an adult-only home for Ollie. Someone who is 'rescue minded' and not necessarily looking for the perfect dog. Ollie's got a lot of love and companionship to offer to a special person. If you think you might be that person, please contact our state coordinator.

Hi! My name is SARA May Isabella, but you can just call me Bella like my Foster Daddy calls me. I came from a shelter as a stray because I got lost and my parents would not come get me. The nice shelter humans said that they were full and had no room for me, and I was so nice that they would call ESRA and see if they could find me a home. My nice new foster daddy came right away and took me home so I could play with his two Springers. It's fun here, but I sure would like my own parents to love me and enjoy me.
I am two-years-old, and my Foster Dad thinks I'm almost smarter, and well behaved, than my Foster sisters. I know all my commands but I like to pull on a leash at times when I want to go look at stuff. I just got a new fluff and buff, and look real pretty now. I like to look out the window, and like to let the next door doggies know I'm here, then I go up to my dad and laugh at him with my funny smile and get my tail going really fast 'til I almost fall down. Foster dad thinks I'm funny when I do this, and it's fun for me too.
I am current on all my shots, and have a rabies tag too. Also, I have been spayed. I am housetrained and don't mess with anything, and I wait in line like my foster sisters to eat.
Foster Daddy says I'm the best manored rescue doggie he has had in a long time and would be a great pet for someone.
I sure hope you will come to see my smile and laugh and play with me. I sure would like to find my Forever Home. I'll be waiting at the door for you, OK?

Cedar Rapids, IA

ESRA # 2008-0373IA
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 55 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Hi! My name is Murray, and I am looking for my Forever Home.
You see, my owner used to take me with him to work. We traveled a lot, but then he got a different job, and I couldn't go along. The little people in he house were too small to watch me, so friends had to. This made my owner sad, so he called my new foster daddy, and he came to the rescue so I wouldn't have to go to doggie jail.
My foster dad says that I'm a total package, as I am good looking, and an up-to-date on all vaccinations. I am housetrained, love other doggies, kitties, kids, and, well, everyone! I love car rides, as I jumped right into my new foster dad's truck ready to cruise. I know all my commands, but need some fine tuning, and need a little leash work is all. I am also trained to an invisible fence!
Foster dad thinks I'm a little skinny for my size, so he is going to help me by giving me some good chow. Oh boy! I can't wait!
I am sad to loose my owner, and sure could use a good home that has time for me, cuz I love to run with my long legs and body... wheeee !!!
Ya' all come see me now, ya' hear!

ESRA # 2008-0175IA
Age: 4 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs
Variety: Field-Bred
Wanted: One family that has room for me to run. I can clear a four-foot fence with ease. I want a family with no house cats for me to chase. I want a family who can offer me a chance every day to run off my high energy. I promise to come into the house later and just lay down on my dog bed.
I know commands such as Sit, Stay, Come, and Off. I can ring the bell to be let outside. I am told that I am very athletic and playful. Are you the family for me?
Please call my foster mom to make an appointment to visit me.
Sadie has shown good potential to being a hunting dog. She is not gun shy, she comes to you when you call her, and she loves to play fetch with a ball. She will return with the ball and drop it at your feet to continue the game. She got a possum this last week. Sadie loves her crate as a safe haven to take a nap but most of all, Sadie loves to be outside.

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.

This cute girl is Princess. Princess was turned over to rescue from a family that was over using a shock collar that burned her neck and caused her to act aggressive towards the owner.
Now that she is out of that environment, she is a fun and loving pistol! She loves to run and play with other dogs and is house trained, kennel trained, and is learning new commands. She is still a little shy, but once she is comfortable with you, look out! She will be on your lap giving you kisses or asking for belly rubs.
This girl has seemed to forget her abusive past, and is moving forward being the loving Springer she really is. She is an awesome dog, with some "puppy" left in her.

HUNTER
Mt. Pleasant, MI

|
ESRA # 2008-0393MI
Age: 9 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 46 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
This is Hunter. His owner could no longer keep a dog in the building they lived in so they took him to a shelter and ESRA came in and saved this boy. He is a nine-year-old male that is neutered, up to date on his shots, and he is heartworm negative. Hunter is fully housetrained, and walks ok on a leash. He also knows Sit, and we are working on Stay. He stays off the furniture, unless invited. Hunter recently visited the vet and got an A+ in health, and the groomer said he was a very good boy.
He is very sweet and eager to please, so with some time and training, he will be a wonderful companion. Although he is an older dog, he has the spunk of a four-year-old Springer. The only area of concern is with food. He is fine with this if not bothered, as he is very protective of his food and chewies, especially if people food is involved.
He is not aggressive in any way, and is great with kids, and even infants. His foster family has four kids, ages twelve, four, three, and the infant is twelve-weeks-old, and he loves each one of them. He eagerly greets his family, and kisses the baby all the time. True to Springer form, he has become the best foot warmer for his foster Mom, and follows her wherever she goes.
Bad Habits: He does have a few bad habits that his foster family is diligently working on. He counter surfs, noses through the trash, and drinks from the toilet. It is obvious that this previous family just didn't work with him. He is improving every single day in those areas. As long as the lids are shut, he can't get into the toilet, but he is sneaky and likes to open the cupboard door that the trash is kept in, but he will listen when told 'no'. He was not crate trained coming into the foster home, and barked a lot the first few nights, but he is learning quickly, and adapting well to the night time crating.
He would be an excellent family dog. Wouldn't you like to give him the chance to be a member of yours?

CONNER
Lyons, MI

|
ESRA # 2008-0335MI
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
This handsome boy is Conner and he is waiting patiently to find his very own Forever Family! Conner was found running loose with 2 other dogs and he was quite a mess when ESRA was finally able to 'spring' him from the shelter. He had to be shaved down because he was such a mess but he has beautiful fur and will grow in his lovely Springer waves before long.
Conner is gentle, loving and affectionate..a typical Springer who wants to be with you every minute of the day. He is very good with kids but does like to chase the cats so he would be best in a home without cats. He is very 'slurpy' with his kisses and really likes to give them to you right after he has had a big drink of water! He is very good on the leash and very smart. He has already learned his new name and readily goes into his kennel. He is being fostered at a kennel and keeps his kennel clean. His foster mom is going to have him spend more time in the house with them so that we can see how his house manners are but he appears to be a really great boy! He is good with other dogs but really prefers the company of humans (unless there is a cat to chase)!
Conner is a great Springer who will make a loving friend and lifelong companion for some very lucky person or family!

DERBY
Pinckney, MI

ESRA # 2008-0257MI
Age: 14 months
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 57 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Hi...my name is Derby and I am looking for a new home. My forever home!!
My first owners didn't have time for me and took me to the shelter. Then some wonderful folks came and took me home with them, but the resident dog didn't like sharing mom and dad's attention. So even though they were very sad, my second family returned me to the shelter. It was there that ESRA found me, posted my bail, and busted me out!!! Don't get me wrong, the staff at the shelter was good to me, but being in doggy jail is no place for an active, lovable guy like me. If you are interested in a cute, fun and affectionate boy, then look no more. Fill out an adoption application and let's meet. What do you say??????
Foster Mom here....Derby is a little over a year old but he is still very much a puppy. As he mentioned, his previous owner did not have time for him and it shows in his lack of training. We are working on this, but with three other dogs in the home it is hard to find alot of one on one time. This boy is very sweet and eager to please so with some time and training he will be a wonderful companion. Derby is a tall boy with long legs. If you are a runner, Derby would be an excellent running partner. Derby is fully housetrained, and is easily crated with a treat. He loves car rides, Nyla bones, and soft toys. Balls are fun too. Derby gets along well with the three resident dogs, but has not yet been exposed to cats. Because he gets excited easily, and will jump up, children over five years old would probably be best. If I didn't already have my canine limit, I would keep this boy myself. He has already wrapped his paws around my heart. If you are interested in losing your heart, here's your chance.

Holland, MI

ESRA # 2008-0015MI
Age: 7-8 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Hello, my name is Chance, and I'm just so happy that ESRA took a 'Chance' on me!
I was surrendered by my owners, who said that they didn't have time to take care of me anymore. Since I was found by my ex-owner, we're not sure how old I am, but my new vet says 7 or 8. I've seen my vet a few times because I needed some medical attention. You see, I had some fatty tumors removed, my teeth scaled, and x-rays indicate that I have a slightly collapsed trachea, but I don't know it. As you can see by my picture, I clean up really well!
My foster mom says I am just the sweetest thing. I like to stick by her because I'm also deaf, but as long as I can see her, or my foster brothers, I am fine. Because of my deafness, I probably wouldn't do well with little children; they might scare me since I can't hear them. My foster mom and brothers have a system of touching and then signing. I'm getting the hang of it.
I like my human foster brothers, and get along well with them, especially when they give me back scratches and let me cuddle with them on the futon. I'm great on the leash, love to go for walks, and enjoy car rides. I don't scurry when I'm outside, so my foster mom lets me frolic in the snow. I have one bad habit, and that is counter surfing. My foster mom and I are working on it, and she says that I am her motivator to keep a clean kitchen, with everything out of sight. I am housetrained, and have not had one accident since joining my foster family. I don't like crates or brooms, but you can vacuum all around me. I'm a great guy, so won't you take a 'Chance' on me.
Call my foster mother and she will tell you all about me., her name is Susan and her number is 616-355-0810. I'm waiting to meet you!

Travis is a delightful and energetic young Springer. He is responsive, affectionate, alert, and appears to adapt easily to new environments. He is getting along well with our other dog. He would do best in a household that would meet his need for exercise and activity. He is not hyperactive, but loves to run and play. He bonds easily with people, and shows no signs of fear. Obedience training is recommended, although he already knows Sit, Shake Paw, and Down.
In the words of his foster mom: We REALLY LIKE HIM. Travis is a fabulous and easy dog.

They call me K.C. and say I am eight years old. I lost my family so this holiday season, I am looking for a new forever home. I like to be top dog in the family so I am looking for a home where I can be Queen. I know my commands and am very obedient. I sit, stay, and lie down.
They say I have allergies and a thyroid condition for which I take medications twice a day but they are inexpensive. They call them Treats, of which I take them readily. My foster mom feeds me Science Diet and suggests that I should try Science Diet Light! I don't know what she means by that?
Oh, and the other thing you might like to know is that I do not chew and am totally house trained. I get along well with cats. There are three of them here in my foster home. My foster mom also said that I have the unladylike habit of snoring when I am asleep. Umph!
I love the outdoors so if you think that you can offer me a forever home, please contact my foster mom and she will be only too happy to tell you more about me. Hope to hear from you soon,
Love, K.C.

| BAILEY
St. Paul, MN

 |
ESRA # 2007-623MN
Age: 11 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 59 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
This is Bailey. He's eleven years old and he's really a good old boy. When he came to our home he was pretty sickly because he has heartworm and had just had two treatments.
Now, the vet says that he's doing really well and will have his last treatment in just a couple of weeks. The vet also says that he has a strong heart and good lungs. He weighs about 59 pounds and is strong and healthy. He has a good appetite and seems younger than his age.
Bailey is pleasant and mild mannered and gets along very well with our dog. He doesn't try to be the boss, but is very happy just being part of the family. He is completely housetrained and has not had one accident while we've had him. He's been great with older children, but we have not had him around small kids, babies or cats.
He's a bit deaf, but has compensated for it by really watching people to see if he's supposed to follow you or stay, go in or out. He seems to understand very well when you wave at him to come or stop and the lack of hearing doesn't seem to hinder him at all.
He walks very well on a leash and doesn't seem to bark except once or twice to come in, or go out, or if new people come to the house. We think that he was previously given food at the dinner table, but since we've had him he's learned not to beg.
The ideal home for him would be one that has people (or another dog) around all the time as he seems to be lonely when left by himself.
Update 09 JAN 08: Bailey is now heartworm free! Yeah!! He is very healthy and strong. He goes for 1.5 mile walks every day and loves to play in the snow. He has recovered very well and now he is seriously looking for a new home. Please stop by and make a visit. Bailey will warm his way into your heart within a couple of minutes.

ESRA # 2007-343MN
Age: 11 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs
Variety: Field-bred
Hello. My name is Ava and I am a very senior female English Springer Spaniel. My vet thinks that I am about 11 years old and he calls me a wonderful old girl (which I think is a term of endearment)! I came from a shelter in South St. Paul to my foster home here in SE Minnesota which I share with other Springers and some other dogs. My foster mom calls me her gentle giant – not because I am fat (over weight she calls it) but because I am tall and I have a tail which my foster siblings do not have.
Because I am a senior, I do have a few health issues that someone, who wants to offer me a forever home, needs to be know. I have cataracts because of my age which means I don't always see as well as when I was younger. My foster mom says I more than make up for this by having an acute sense of smell and something called selective hearing! I also have allergies. The vet, Tom, doesn't know what I am allergic to but the itching can be controlled with medication. So if you decided to offer me a home, I would need to visit your vet for suggestions about dog food and shots. I take a Vitamin E capsule once a day and some triple antibiotic ointment in my ears to help with the inflammation caused by the itching. My foster mom says my ears are small but very clean.
I love to be with people. I like to sit by your chair, and be by your side. I have a very soft coat, and if you should forget and leave me outside, I have a very deep bark. I like to sleep on your bed, although I do take up quite a large part of it. I do not chew or destroy things. I am left with the other dogs while my foster mom is at work, and only bark if someone comes to the door. I have never been in crate here, and I know how to ask to go outside. I walk very well on a leash, and answer to my name. There are three cats here, and I get along with them just fine, apart from the fact I like to eat their food!
My foster mom says I would make an ideal companion for an older human who perhaps already has one dog. Please feel free to email if I can answer any other questions for you.

Hi, Ya,
Bob is my name and looking for a new home is my game.
Me and Jenny lost our owner who is now in heaven. Me and Jenny lived together our whole lives but I'm thinking that if the right home came along, I could actually go without her. I'm not looking for much, now. I just kind of want a place where I can bark, lounge around all day, eat, and sleep. I don't do much more than that which is saying a lot since I am a senior.
They say I qualify for the "Senior for a Senior." So if you are over 60 and are looking for a good friend, then call Etta. She is my temporary guardian until one of you can pick me up.
I am housetrained, up to date on shots, neutered, and ready to go. Just tell me when and where. I am your dog.

Hello,
My name is Jenny and I am looking for a good home to take care of me in my senior years. I have lived my whole life with this other dog, Bob, but he doesn't need to come along with me if you only want one springer. I am better looking than he is and I have the brains, as well.
I am, of course, housetrained, beautiful, a lady, and a wonderful companion for a senior who is looking for a senior dog. I don't require much. I like my sleep, my two meals a day, a little belly rub once in awhile, and I am good to go.
Our master passed away suddenly, so both Bob and I are looking for new Forever Homes. Can you find us a senior who can adopt us, or just me, through the "Senior for a Senior" program? Drop Etta a line and ask about us. Both of us are wonderful companions, and I am especially good looking.

Age: 11 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs
Variety: Field-bred
Amos is a companion animal. He sleeps all day while you are at
work and loves to go for walks when you arrive home. He knows several
commands and is attending obedience training now to learn more. He is good in the house while the foster parents are at work. He
is housetrained, of course. He likes to chase cats so a home without
cats is preferred. Amos will roll over for a belly rub anytime.
That is his specialty.
He was given up because the owners did not want him anymore. They
said he had fleas but in reality, he did not. Amos is a "love" and
only wants to be part of the family. He lives with two other English
Springer Spaniels but is looking for his "own" forever family.

ESRA # 2007-964KY
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Jiffy has a video on his Petfinder listing. Be sure to have a look
Hi,
I'm Jiffy. How do you like my sun bleached carrot-top ears? Handsome don't you think?
I love to run and chase and play. I'm all puppy. I'm also a good family dog, but please give me a lot of room to run, as I have tons of energy.
Kids are great, but I'm probably a too high strung for infants. I get excited and play too hard for them. I like to chase squirrels and cats, though I've never hurt one.
I'm very jealous of other dogs and should not be in a home that has one.
I'm neutered, so my roaming days are over. I also had a foot infection that's better now. I was hit by a car and that made my leg a bit weak, but it's good enough to keep pace with my über-hyper lifestyle. I am housetrained and crate trained, though I do not really like the crate. I am up to date on all of my shots, have been neutered, and am heartworm negative.
I like women but I really want to hang out with the man of the house. I am ideal for a retired couple who wants a young, energetic dog to keep with them all day. Please consider giving me a home today.
Woof,
Jiffy

PEBBLES & DELILAH

Pebbles
 Delilah
|
ESRA # 2008-0054MO - Pebbles
ESRA # 2008-0053MO - Delilah
Age: 5 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 & 42 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Hi there .... I am Pebbles and this is Delilah. If we could tell you our life story, it would be an interesting one. But we prefer to leave that story behind and move on to the next chapter of our lives, a wonderful one for sure. We came from a nasty old puppy mill, where we produced many puppies, but now we are living the high life inside, on soft bedding, with clean healthy teeth, and no more raising puppies in our future!
We walk pretty well on a leash, except that sometimes we get so curious about all the new things that we start tugging a little. There are so many new things to learn about.
We want to be spoiled as house dogs now that we are learning about the luxuries of life. Of course, we are spayed now, heartworm negative, and up to date on all shots. We are also microchipped. We are crate trained, and behave very well.
There is just one catch .... you see we have been together for our whole lives ... all 5 years, and we would really like to stay together, as we are very dependent on each other. So how about it, would you like to double your Springer fun and pleasure?
To find out more about our personalities, or to set up a meeting to enjoy our company, please send an e-mail to our state coordinator.
Love, Pebbles and Delilah

 PHOEBE
St. Louis, MO

|
ESRA # 2008-0163MO
Age: 5 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Phoebe is a personality-packed 5 year old, who still has a lot of puppy in her. She loves to be outside by herself just watching the happenings in the back yard (and in the neighbors' yards), but she really loves it when one of the family comes out to sit on the deck with her. Her favorite toys are a racquetball and an empty plastic water or soda bottle that she can make a lot of noise with while running around the house. She also loves to go for a walk in the neighborhood, but still needs to improve her manners on leash (she like to explore, and pulls a bit on the leash).
It's not unusual to find Phoebe sprawled on her back on the living room floor (or anywhere, for that matter). She likes nothing better than a tummy rub, and will stop almost anything immediately for that special treat.
Phoebe broke her left hind leg playing and jumping when she was five months old. Because it was a spiral fracture, we had it surgically repaired, which was very successful, and you'd never know today that she had a problem.
Phoebe is happy cuddling with one of the family. She's comfortable staying in her special area (the laundry room) when we're away, and always excited and wagging when we come home. She can be very vocal (almost seemingly carrying on a conversation) when she's excited to see us or about to get a doggie treat. She's really quite funny.
Phoebe loves visitors to the house, and typically settles down quickly after greeting them upon their arrival. She takes a few minutes to warm to strangers, keeping her distance until she feels comfortable; then she becomes best friends with them. She's good with older children, but we really haven't had her around younger children much, so we have no experience there.
Phoebe grew up with other dogs in the house, but of late Phoebe has had to be separated from her older Springer sibling. However, we feel this isn't an optimal situation for her, and we'd like to see her be the only dog in a home where she can feel a full part of the family.
If you would like to know more about Phoebe, please e-mail her Coordinator.

BEN
St. Louis, MO

|
ESRA # 2008-0055MO
Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Meet Ben. Ben is a happy go lucky liver and white altered male Springer Spaniel. Although his exact age is unknown, the vet estimated that Ben is about five years old and at 40 pounds, he is on the smaller side for male Springers. While Ben was found on the street, at some point in his life, he must have been a house dog, as he is housetrained, and can hang out in his crate for the day while you are at work or school. While Ben doesn't mind being in the crate, he would much rather snuggle up on your sofa and perch his head on the arm rest.
Ben exhibits a healthy amount of classic Springer spunk -- his entire back end is constantly wagging as he watches whatever you happen to be doing. He has only counter surfed once, and has become less interested in trash-can diving
Overall, Ben has a great temperament. He is happy to be outside and loves to go on a walk. On the leash, he is an excellent walker, content to let you set the pace. While he doesn't know many tricks, he is learning. Ben would probably get along with most other dogs, although he does like to vie for human attention with his foster sister who is also a Springer. He is also much more content to hang out with people than play with another dog. Based on his extreme interest in chasing squirrels, he would most likely do well in a house without cats. Ben is up-to-date on all shots and is microchipped.

MADDIE
St. Charles, MO

|
ESRA # 2007-1088MO
Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
My name is Maddie. I am a beautiful, six-year-old bench Springer, with a lovely full curly coat. Although, I must admit that I would feel much better with a nice grooming. I think my case manager is working on that for me. I came into rescue at a time when there were no foster homes available, so I am currently living at a boarding facility. I would really like to find my new Forever Home, as I don't get much sleep with all the activity and all the barking dogs.
I tend to be camera shy, so my pictures don't really portray how cute I really am. My case manager is working on that also. I am a good girl and I am totally housetrained, and love to be around my people. I behave quite well in the house, and don't get into mischief much, except an occasional trash can now and then. I like to snuggle with you and follow you everywhere.
One of my favorite things to do is wrap my paw around your arm so we can be buddies. I need to be placed in a home where there are no other dogs, as I like to be the center of your attention. I tolerate children, but prefer the company of children over twelve-years-old or so. I don't share well with other dogs, but I do tolerate cats. I know a few commands, but I am pretty strong on a leash. I could really use a little obedience training for my leash manners. I love to play, and swimming is my favorite past time in the summer. I am spayed, fully vetted, microchipped, and ready to find my new family.
If I sound like the perfect companion for you, please contact my coordinator.
I'll be waiting at the kennel for my new family.
Love, Maddie

 TEDDY
St. Louis, MO

|
ESRA # 2007-828KS
Age: 3-1/2 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 22 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Meet Teddy. His litter was turned over to rescue because the breeder could not sell the puppies and they were due for veterinary care. Teddy's Foster Mom has this to say about Teddy:
Teddy is:
1. Still working on the housetraining but I'm pretty sure he is gonna get that pretty soon.
2. He gets along well with other dogs, hasn't seen any cats.
3. Weighing in at 22 lbs after surgery (neutering), he is showing signs of a great athlete, future junior heavy-weight champion, and possibly professional counter surfer.
4. A Whiffle ball is his best friend - it is light and speeds across the floor bouncing in every direction. He slides out of control into the walls trying to get it.
5. Requires lots of walks - three 20-minute ones a day keep him from destroying the house. Although still has a tendency to chew on wooden objects, furniture legs, stairs, etc.
6. Paper of any size or shape is his enemy and he is fully prepared to destroy it.
7. Is a natural on a leash. Hardly ever pulls and will sit and wait like a gentleman when I stop. Which is often for me (huff-puff).
8. Doesn't like loud noises or to be yelled at. Is scared easily. (Blowing leaves, barking neighbor dogs, butterflies, etc.)
9. Is crate trained and sleeps through the night usually 6-7 hours. He has also slept in my room a couple of times and prefers to sleep under the bed with his hind end protruding from under the bedskirt.
10. When he crashes, he really crashes and makes me think he is part basset-hound. When he wants out of the crate, he bellows like one also. He's not a wimpy-whiney kinda fellow.
11.We call him Teddy-Bear because he is big, soft, and cuddly, except for when he is wrestling of course.
If you would like to know more about Teddy, please e-mail his coordinator.

 MASON
St. Louis, MO

|
ESRA # 2007-826KS
Age: 3-1/2 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 20 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Mason is a very energetic puppy. He loves to run and play outside, and even plays with some toys such as stuffed animals and balls. He can also be a big couch potato. He enjoys spending his evenings sleeping on the couch next to you or sprawling out on the floor. He is an affectionate dog, and will follow you around the house to investigate what you are doing.
Mason is working on his potty training, and is improving on it. He normally goes outside when he is taken out, but he has gone out of the doggy door a few times, so he is getting used to it a little.
Overall Mason is a great dog who even gets along with other dogs and cats once he knows them.
If you would like to know more about Mason, please contact his contact below.
Mason also has three male siblings that are available as well, although their pictures are not yet posted.

K.C.
St. Louis, MO

|
ESRA # 2007-443MO
Age: 8 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 58 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Hi Everyone, my name is K.C. - yup, just simple K.C.
I was living a great life with my family and
had been with them my whole life, but something changed and mom and dad starting packing
boxes and I overheard them say something about relocation and traveling with their jobs.
What??? Certainly, I must have heard them wrong. I am of course a wonderful boy. Well,
unfortunately I heard them correctly and I now find myself in the position of having to find
another Forever Home. So, let me tell you a little something about me. I am a very handsome
black and white boy and I sport a beautiful full tail. I am about 8 years old and I am a perfect
gentlemen. My foster mom says that she can not find one thing not to like about me. I have
perfect manners, I know my commands, I am crate trained - although I don't need it because I am
perfect in the house. Every now and then I sneak up on the sofa, but my foster mom does not
seem to mind and if she asks me to get off, I do so without a grumble. I am up to date on all my
shots and neutered. I did have one surgery after I came into rescue though. I had a torn cruciate
ligament on my rear leg, but the doctors did some surgery and fixed me all up. I can run like the
wind and I love to chase bunnies and birds, although I never seem to catch anything. I am living
with some kitty cats and they don't bother me at all and I behave very well around them. I am
also great with the little children that my foster mom takes care of. So, as you can see, I am a
great all around kinda guy. If you would like to know more about me, please drop a note to my
State Coordinator.
Looking forward to hearing from you. A well mannered boy like me would make a wonderful
additional to any household.
Love, K.C.

BUNNY
Arnold, NE

|
ESRA # 2007-1079NE
Age: 7 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 39 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Cute, quick, and smart ... That's little Miss Bunny!
Bunny has been an outside dog her whole life. She is very comfortable in the field and with working with other dogs. Now, she is the old dog learning new tricks - and she likes it! Though timid when she first came inside, she is quickly settling in. She is like a pup in many respects learning house manners, but like an adult too, as she does not need to be told twice! She adores having her ears scratched and has discovered that the TV is best viewed from her foster dad's lap. Her new routine includes treats, tummy rubs and sleeping in her cozy crate at night.
Bunny is leash trained, invisible fence trained, and ride well in the car. She would love to have other dogs play with her, but would like to be the queen too! She has a high prey drive and is NOT good with cats. She does like to play fetch, but does not give her ball up easily. We question how she would react to children as she not not allow you to take away her toys without a bit of instruction from you.
Bunny has all of the makings of a good field dog and may have experience too. She is definitely not past her prime as she is filled with that Springer energy and drive that so define this breed.
Update 05 MAY 08: Bunny loves being a house dog! She is 100 percent house trained. However, Miss Bunny suffered from an untreated UTI for a long time before coming into ESRA care. Her years of suffering left her incontinent. She takes a daily, inexpensive, pill now that keeps her DRY, and makes her one happy little cuddle bug. Yeah Bunny!

BEAU
Arnold, NE

|
ESRA # 2007-331NE
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 46 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Young, handsome, liver and white male, seeks life long relationship with adoring family.... your Beau is waiting!
This lover boy just wants to be by your side, whether it is watching TV, working in the garden, going out on the town, or taking that glorious stroll through the countryside. He does not seem to have the temperament for hunting as he is afraid of loud noises, but does love to hunt up a good belly rub!
Beau is learning his leash manners, is house-trained, invisible fence trained, and rides great in the car. He is quickly learning basic commands and enjoys his treats for doing so well! When introduced to another young intact male, he did not show good manners. He may work best as either an only dog or with a submissive one. Beau is also overly interested in the shop kitty, who has decided it is not in his best interest to meet him.
Beau's one goal in life is to be your companion, confidant , and snuggle buddy. He loves people of all ages, plays with children, and is a merry soul. If you are ready for a Springer kiss on the first date, Beau is your guy.

BOOMER
Arnold, NE

|
ESRA # 2007-819NE
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 57 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Boom Boom is the sound your heart will make when you fall in love with this rescued boy!
Boomer was abandoned, left to fend for himself in a rural area. Starved and lonely, he was captured by a sweet woman who provided vet care that saved his life. Now that he is in rescue, he can count on full-time care to put on about fifteen needed pounds.
Boom Boom had been someone's special boy at one time. He knows basic commands, and will speak or shake for treats. He rides quietly in the car, unless he is crated. He is housetrained and invisible fence trained. He adores people, and quickly attaches himself in a household. He gets along well with younger, submissive male dogs, and does great with female dogs of all ages. He is still inhaling his food as if it were his last meal, so you should be cautious of leaving food unattended, or casually carrying your own food at his level, as he might seek the opportunity to fill up an empty spot on his boney body!
He is a big boy with a big kissy-face. He thinks that laps were invented just for him, and he also enjoys chairs, couches, and beds! Oh the good life! Boomer just wants to live it. Please respond if you can offer it.
Update 20 JAN 08: Boomer has filled out to be a very handsome boy weighing in at around 57lbs! His personality is also filling out. He is a dominant dog, and would do best as an only dog . He also shows signs of separation anxiety when left alone. On a good note he knows and minds his commands like a machine. He is very trainable, and with a very dog wise person, would absolutely shine!
Update 06 MAY 08: Boomer is learning new things. He is crate trained, and can stay by himself all day. He is a dog that thrives on routine. An adopting family will have to allow time, and be willing to be patient, as Boom adjusts to their pattern of life. He is one loyal dog, and takes care of everything in his world! You can see Boomer in action in the field at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo9jCDk5V9o
He is intense in all of his actions; he snuggles hard, eats with gusto, plays till you say enough, and is ready for a run, ride, or outing at any time. He will bond to you quickly, and expect the same. He works the field well, and has the endurance to hunt all day. I would recommend that he be trained with the Nothing In Life is Free (NILF) method of training, get plenty of exercise, and be given a job.

JAZZIE
Warren, OH

|
ESRA # 2008-0439OH
Age: 9 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 75 pounds
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
Hi there! I'm Jazzie! I'm the new girl in town, and wanted to introduce myself to you. I've had a brand new life as of the past couple of weeks, and things sure are different than before. As you can see from my pictures, I'm a little bit on the full-figured side. Ok, ok... maybe a lot! But don't let that fool you! I'm a healthy girl, and am looking for a new home to call my very own.
I had a family before, but my Mom passed away and left me all alone with Dad. Dad was a nice guy, but I think that he was trying to make me happy, because I missed my Mom, and just started feeding me ALL THE TIME! I sure did love all those snacks, but it really didn't help me too much in the waist line. Meanwhile, while Dad and I were adjusting to life without Mom, some other things happened and Dad had to move. He could no longer care for me, and graciously turned me over to the nice people at ESRA. We were both pretty sad about that.
My foster Mom says that I am really a pretty girl, and very healthy for my age. I do have a slightly under-active thyroid which I take a daily pill for, but it's really inexpensive. I'm sweet, lovable, like other dogs and even cats, and am great with small children. I like to play with other doggies, as long as they don't want to play too rough.
If you are looking for a gal who's a little older, housetrained, and someone who will be a great companion, look no further! I'm your girl! To learn more about me, please contact my foster Mom, Judy Manley at vistahknls@aol.com or our Applications Coordinator, Linda Lintz at llintz@rochester.rr.com . Oh, and don't forget to fill out our on-line adoption application. That will get you one step closer to being able to call me your very own!
Please come to meet me. I would love to have my own family again soon!
Affectionately,
Jazzie

CLANCY
Warren, OH

|
ESRA # 2008-0378OH
Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 pounds
Variety: Bench/Show-bred
We are pleased to introduce a very sweet boy known as Clancy! Clancy was found as a stray, and ESRA was called to come to his aid. Of course, once we met him, we took him into our program without giving it a second thought. He is a sweetheart! He's a young, neutered, male who is playful and has exuberance for life that just shines! Look at that smiling face, and that will tell you what this beautiful boy is made of. He is housetrained, and does know some commands. We have discovered that he is quite bright and just needs a little refresher training to bring back everything that he has obviously been taught in the past. It is hard to fathom how someone could have given up such a wonderful Springer, but, lucky for him, we are here to help him find a wonderful, loving, new home. He would be a wonderful addition to any family.
Clancy gets along well with other dogs, and has a lot of energy. He would probably love a human or doggy playmate. He has not been tested with cats, so we cannot comment, at this time, on how he would be with them.
Would you like to meet this handsome young man? If so, please fill out an adoption application, as that is the next step to possibly meeting the Springer you had always hoped for!
If you would like to know more about Clancy, please contact his foster Mom, Judy Manley, at Vistahknls@aol.com , or our Applications Coordinator, Linda Lintz, at llintz@rochester.rr.com . We would be happy to tell you more about this wonderful boy.
Oh, and Clancy says PLEASE COME SOON! He would love to meet you!

SHAGGY
Warren, OH

|
ESRA # 2008-0309OH
Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 pounds
Variety: Field-bred
Hi Everybody! My name is Shaggy, and I am looking for a new home to call my very own! I had a great family, but something sad happened, and they had to move. Where they were going, they were not allowed to bring me. I really miss them. They loved me a lot. My previous family let me do pretty much whatever I wanted to do, so I really haven't had any formal training, and would just love to learn some new things, if you would be willing to teach me. I am a Springer after all, and everyone knows how smart we can be!
I'm a handsome boy with a pretty coat. I am very healthy and quite energetic, even though I'm not a puppy anymore. I would do very well in a home as an only dog, especially if you had kids or someone to play with me. I don't really get it, but other dogs don't seem to like me very much. Maybe they're jealous because I'm so cute! Also, as with many typical field-bred Springers, I have a high prey drive, and would not be good in a home with cats.
Would you like to learn more about me? If so, please contact my foster Mom, Judy Manley at Vistahknls@aol.com , or our Applications Coordinator, Linda Lintz @ llintz@rochester.rr.com
Oh, and please fill out an adoption application too! That will get you one step closer to meeting me and hopefully falling in love with your new best friend!
Your friend,
Shaggy

RASCAL
Sidney,OH

|
ESRA #2007-236OH
Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Hi there! I'm Rascal! I'm a middle-aged guy with quite an enthusiasm for life. I've been looking for my forever home for awhile now, but, sadly, for some reason, people keep passing me up. My ESRA friends keep telling me that they will find the perfect family for me, and I'm not giving up hope! My previous owners decided that they didn't have time for me anymore, and that's how I ended up here. Actually, that was probably a good thing, because now I can find a family that WILL find time for me, and WILL treat me like a member of the family. I just can't wait until that day comes!
I've been in foster care for a little while, and have made wonderful progress with my surrogate Mom and Dad. I get along wonderfully with all the other pets here, both dogs and cats, and even had quite an experience living with a litter of puppies for a while! I'm a gentle soul, and just love everyone! Even though I've got a few years on me, I am quite an athletic Springer, and just love running and playing outdoors. I can keep up with those young ones. that's for sure!
I'm a healthy boy, but need to be kept on a high quality diet, to prevent food allergies, which some of us Springers can get from time to time. I currently eat lamb and rice kibble and love those little baby carrots for a snack!
I've come such a long way with my training, and have learned to sit for treats, sit for my leash (I just LOVE walks), not to dash out every open door, and to understand what the word NO means. I'm not a Bed Hog, and will be content lying at the foot of your bed, or on a little doggy pillow or rug. I just want to be included with the family.
Would you or your family open up your hearts to a very sweet boy that just wants a home to call his very own? If so, please fill out an on-line adoption application.
You can learn more about me by contacting my foster Mom, Ruthie Richards at litewoman57@yahoo.com or our Applications Coordinator, Linda Lintz, at llintz@rochester.rr.com
I sure hope to meet you soon!

 BANDIT
Ashland, OH

|
ESRA # 2008-0272OH
Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 46 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Bandit is sure to steal someone's heart. Although he is just a year old, he has the manners of a much more mature dog. He is housetrained, knows Sit, Shake, and Stay, waits at the door before going out, and does not get on furniture or beds.
He has adapted perfectly to our home and the three resident Springer males. When given a growl, he simply backs off and defers to the more senior dogs. He has the classic Springer happy-dog personality, loves to be around people, and wags his tail to show his pleasure.
He went visiting for Easter dinner, where he was welcomed as a perfect gentleman, and played with the two labs in their big fenced back yard.
Otherwise he has not been off a leash, as we don't want to lose him. He comes when called, and walks well on a leash, but also has demonstrated some prey drive when he picks up a squirrel scent.
Bandit was lost once and deserves a Forever Home where he can run and play like the puppy that he still is, without fear of being lost again. He will provide many years of wonderful Springer love for the right family.

 MOLLY
Whitehouse, OH

|
ESRA # 2008-0228OH
Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 30 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Molly came to us from a puppy mill where she was a breeder momma. She is a petite fieldie with large expressive eyes and a soft coat with a pretty, dark chocolate color of liver. Molly will be two years old next month.
It appears Molly has spent little time, if any, out of a crate during her short life. But she is very social with her foster Springer family, and they have been a huge help in teaching Molly what it's like to simply be a dog. You can literally see her blossom in front of you as she sheds the years of neglect and begins to understand that she is loved. She has kept her foster family in stitches with her antics, and they have found that she has a wonderful sense of humor that had been buried underneath the fear.
She is a playful, energetic girl, who loves to play with her Springer family as well as her humans. At first Molly didn't even understand what toys were, but now carries one with her everywhere. But Molly's favorite pastime is lying by your side, or even better, cuddling with people.
Molly is still somewhat timid but as she learns what is expected of her she is becoming much more outgoing. She is untrained but quick to learn and very much wants to please. Right now her foster family is helping her to learn her name, and she is working on "No", "Down" and "Sit".
Molly desperately hopes that there is a family out there that will want to take her home, love her, and allow her to become a loving, loyal companion. She will require someone that is patient and willing to work with her, but she will be well worth it with her beautiful face, sweet disposition, and Springer sense of humor.
Are you that special family? If so, please contact Molly's foster mom and find out just how special Molly is.

BEETHOVEN
Warren, OH

|
ESRA # 2007-1054OH
Age: 12 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Hi there! I'm Beethoven! Quite a sophisticated name for such a fun loving guy, if I do say so myself!
Sadly, my owner passed away and there was nowhere for me to go. Lucky for me that ESRA came along though, and these people are just the greatest! Can't you just tell by the smile on my face?
Even though I'm 12 years old (I know. no one can even believe it), I've got the energy of a much younger dog. I have no health problems, and keep up with the best of them! I am housetrained, know many commands and have had quite a bit of training prior to coming into ESRA's program. I am one of the nicest Springers you will ever meet! I love all people, other dogs, and even kitties! I love riding in the car too. I'm such a happy and obedient boy. Anyone who adopts me will be just thrilled to have me as part of their family.
Due to my age, you may not have me in your family for the next ten years, but the few years that we CAN have together will be just wonderful. Adopting a Senior Springer can be a very rewarding experience for both of us! Won't you please give me a chance, and a home where I can be loved and well cared for? I will give something back to you that you will cherish forever!
Hope to hear from someone soon!
Fondly,
Beethoven
P.S. My foster Mom says if you are interested in adopting me, you will need to fill out an adoption application!

BUFFY
Warren, OH

|
ESRA # 2007-846OH
Age: Senior
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 32 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Hi everyone, my name is Buffy. My owner, who loved me very much, had to move to across the country and couldn't take me with her. She contacted ESRA because she knew they would take good care of me and find me a good home.
My foster mom says I am cute as a button and have an adorable personality. I have a foster brother now and I think I have a crush on him. I like to follow him wherever he goes and I like to give him kisses. I wanted to play with the kitty when I got there but the kitty didn't want to play with me. She hissed at me and swatted my nose. So now I pretend she's not even there. My foster mom says I walk very nicely on the leash, but I can't walk as far as I used to. I really like car rides and will sit in the back with my foster brother and look out the windows.
I will bark when I need to go potty and bark to come back inside. I'll also let you know when I want a snack or the water bowl is getting empty.
Being a little bit older means I have some of the "senior" problems. I'm a little achy and slow moving when I get up in the morning but I feel better once I get moving. Going up and down stairs are a problem for me, and my hearing isn't as good as when I was a pup.
I would love to find a new home where I can snooze my days away and go on short walks. I'll watch T.V. with you until I fall asleep on a soft dog bed. Are you older like me? I will be perfect for you!
Love, Buffy

CHARLIE-GIRL
Berea, OH

 |
ESRA # 2007-362OH
Age: 12 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 55 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Charlie-girl's master was not crazy about the name Charlotte, so she became Charlie. She was an only dog, who went just about everywhere with her master. When her original owner died a year and a half ago, she went to the famiy's new house and lived with her mom until mom had to go into an apartment. At seventy pounds, Charlie was a little too large for the apartment requirements of a "maximum twenty-pound dog", so she came to ESRA's foster care program. She is living in a house with three other dogs, with whom she gets along very well. She became Charlie-girl because we have had so many male dogs named Charlie. She is a lively and lovely senior, age twelve, with only a little gray in her eyebrows to belie her age, because her actions won't -- they speak of a much younger dog. She gets very excited when she sees her leash because she loves her walks. She would like to slow it down to sniff the grass a little longer when walking, but one of her housemates is always in a rush to get home.
She is sociable, and not crazy about being left home alone. She would rather be the copilot in the passenger seat of your car, or at least along for the ride. Charlie has always taken what we term "thunder pills" (acepromazine) in a little peanut butter when there are storms. At such times, she will curl up at your feet and sleep, or find a place to hide from the storm. She would love a home where she can again be the center of attention, and the love of someone's life.
Charlie has such a wise look about her as though she knows all about the good things in the world, as well she should. She knows commands, is up-to-date on her vaccines, is spayed, and is good at the groomer.
Oh yes, Charlie can be playfully stubborn. She may take a sock and hold it hostage until she gains the desire of her heart, like playing after dinner, or your devoted attention. She will gladly train a new owner in her adventurous little ways.
Charlie is a dream to walk on a leash and she continues to be as playful as ever. Charlie-girl qualifies for our Springers for Seniors program!
If you think your lifestyle fits well with Charlie-girl's, please fill out an adoption application.

JACKSON
Warren, OH

|
ESRA # 2007-014OH
Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Jackson is a 4 yr. old boy who that was hit by a car resulting in his pelvis and leg being broken along with a lot of other muscle and tendon damage. The owners did not want to pay for his surgery and asked the vet to euthanize him. That was when ESRA was called and asked to take him in their program. He had two surgeries and was in very bad shape. His road to recovery was a long one. We have watched as he slowly continues to use his mended leg. He still doesn't use it completely but is using it more and more all the time. His muscles had atrophied from lack of use. But do not think for one minute he is slowed down any more. He runs full speed and is the kennel kleptomaniac. He loves toys and steals all the other dogs toys. We have to watch him or he will end up with all the toys in his bed. Jackson is very smart and well trained. He is extremely well housetrained and knows many tricks such as down, catch and a few others. He also loves car rides. Its not known how he is with cats. He is tolerant of other dogs. Its recommended he live with an adult family. He is loving and will be an excellent companion for someone.

 CAPTAIN KELLEY
Warren, OH

Woo-woo!
|
ESRA # 2006-942OH
Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred
Captain Kelley aka Kelley is a beautiful boy who is a snuggle bug. He is a delightful dog who gets along with everyone. He loves his toys and chewies. He loves to go for rides and be part of the family. He is great with other dogs, cats, and children. He could use some obedience training, but in the meantime, he is very manageable.
He was relinquished to an animal shelter when his owner didn't want to pay his vet bills for his ear infection, or pay the money to deflea him. He was also obviously not being fed or cared for properly, since he was nothing but bones. He was a mess, and the infection in his ears made him smell very awful. His ears were dripping with infection, and his skin was beet red from allergies and infections.
But that is his past. No more pain for Kelley. With proper treatment and food, Kelley is growing a beautiful new coat, and is a very happy boy without his painful ears. To his new family, we suggest to keep him on premium dog foods without corn and rice. We have no doubt the lower quality food he was being fed (when he was fed), caused all of his distress. Now he looks beautiful and will woo woo you with delight. I love listening to him sing.

JAVA
Warren,OH

|
ESRA #2006-776OH
Age: Pup
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Hi, I'm Java, and I came to ESRA as a pup who had been allowed to grow in body without any training at all. I have been with a trainer for a couple of months, and am much better than I was, but I need a Springer-savvy owner who will keep my boundless enthusiasm for life in check. I love people, I still get excited and try to jump up, and I still have a way to go with training with a Forever Family.
Don't forget, I am still a pup at heart. I've just grown into a bigger-than-pup body!
My ideal family will be very active in their lifestyle, as exercise helps both the family and me keep in top physical shape. I can be a cuddlebug, too. It is the hope of my heart to find my Forever Home soon, so I can get on with life!
Update 06 JUL 07: Java has made great strides in training. He has been going through some intense training, and is learning to become a gentleman, though he's not stuffy, and can wiggle his butt with the best of them. He is extremely well housetrained and crate trained.

SLOAN
Warren, OH

 |
ESRA # 2005-799OH
Age: 10 Years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs
Variety: Bench/Show Bred
Sloan was pulled as a stray from a very high kill shelter. He
was matted and loaded with ticks and fleas. He weighed less than
30 lbs. at the time. Since he has been fostered with Bo, he has
become best buddies with him. He is a sweet dog that loves to wander
around the yard. He is hard of hearing, but can hear when you whistle.
He is well behaved, housetrained, doesn't counter surf, beg for food
or get on the furniture. He is still very active and loves to chase
a tennis ball, at least a few times. Then he would rather just hang
out with his owner. He knows how to give paw and will bark to signal
you to go outside. He is good with cats and children. He needs a
loving home to live in during his golden years. Can you share your
heart with this beautiful boy? He is also elegible for our Springers for Seniors program.
UPDATE - 7/5/06: Sloan recently went
camping with me. He behaved like a perfect camper. He got along
with the other dogs, sat quietly while the little children pet him
and wouldn't take treats from strangers. We went for walks around
the campground and other campers commented on well he walked on
a leash. At bed time he crashed on his blanket and slept the whole
night. He loves rides in the car and will stand the whole trip just
looking out the windows

JUSTIN
Warren, OH

 |
ESRA #2005-170OH
Age: 11 yr.
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 43 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
I don't know why but someone dumped me and left me alone. I wandered
for a while and my foster mom says I would have died if I had not
been found soon. I am an old but healthy boy who loves attention.
My foster mom wondered why I wasn't moving very well and took me
to the vet. The vet found a bullet in my front shoulder. He said
it has been there for a while and told my foster mom it would be
best to leave it there.
I am very well housetrained, and a bit hard of hearing. I get along
well with all the other dogs here. I just need a soft bed to lay
on. OOHH! That makes me so happy.
I take a glucosamine tablet two times a day and it really has helped
me to feel better.
My foster mom keeps telling me, "If I wish hard enough, maybe
I could live the rest of my life with a real home and family."
I promise not to be any trouble.
This is the foster mom now speaking. If you can open your heart
to this boy, it would make a difference in your life and his. He
deserves to live his last couple of years with some love and peace.
If you are interested in adopting him, contact Judy Manley. He is also elegible for our Springers for Seniors program.

Age: 5 Years

Weight: 55 lbs
Variety: Field-Bred
Duke is a 5 year old neutered black and white male who came from a shelter. Duke was stressed being in the shelter. He is up to date with vaccinations. Duke is a calm, mellow, devoted and loyal companion. Duke would be good with any family. His personality is totally charming. Duke has an eye injury and limps on his right side, but it doesn't slow him down much, he still loves to go for 5 mile long walks. Fast movements do scare him and he is timid and shy at first until he gets to know you. He does not like to be crated but is so good in the house that he doesn't need to be crated. He gets along with cats and dogs, rides well in the car, is housebroken, knows basic commands and comes when called. He is a beautiful, big boy who needs to lose a few pounds. HENRY
Nashotah, WI

ESRA #2008-0326WI
Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred
Henry is a neutered three-year-old black and white male who was an owner relinquishment.
The owner became too ill to take care of him.
He is timid and has been poorly socialized but is very friendly once he knows you are safe. Henry is energetic and intelligent, but has had no training. He does not walk well on a leash. He crates well, rides well in the car. He chases cats, only in good fun, no intention to harm them. He gets along with other dogs. He is up to date with vaccinations.
